She really rocked in concert back then. I saw her twice. She sings a Bessie Smith song called "Women be Wise" in homage to the great blues legend. Everything Bonnie ever sang was sweet to the ears. All the best musicians worked with her. There are better vocal versions of this as she got older. So glad you are a fan too. Really enjoy your thoughts on her work.

As she's matured, her life experience has made her performance of this song better and better over time. She's toured with several of the classic blues greats over the years, and learned from them.

A whole generation only knows her for popular ballads -- this is the REAL Bonnie Raitt, blues master. Her bottleneck slide technique is legendary but this shows off her finger-picking style and she is clearly just a master guitarist in any style. This is the vintage version complete with Freebo on the bass.

She was around all those Blues legends at this phase. Was the official whiskey holder for one of them. He won't get angry at her. Like the more mature version. More rasp.

Harri - If you like the sassy, bluesy side of Bonnie Raitt you should check out more of her early work - Give it Up (from Turn of the Cards?) comes to mind, although there are a couple if Sippy Wallace tunes from a 1970 radio concert she did on WMMR in Philadelphia that are killer too. Another GREAT one you should check out is Blender Blues - as sassy as it gets and really shows off her incredible guitar chops.

What a talent and what a shame she didn't break to the masses until the late 80's early 90' with the albums nick of time and luck of the draw a full 20 years after she started her musical career.

I remember being at my parents house, when I was 16 or 17 and I heard that line, 'a lot of men want to rock me like my back aint got no bone, I want you to rock me like my backbone was your own' and it woke me up! I never heard anyone talk like that, and I was a HUGE fan of her. She .... allowed me to feel and want to be treated good, and be loved good too! I just love her stuff.... She evolved and here are two of my favorites Bonnie Raitt Cool Clear Water kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIW5q4WQgp5kepo and Everything that Touches You kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6eldaGIobCEppI Thank you Harri

Huge fan of Raitt's from the beginning, her name brought me back to your channel this morning. This was an anthem for my girlfriends and I through the mid-late 70's. She's wonderful. You would enjoy VoicePlay's recent cover of "I Can't Make You Love me" As usual for their covers, they found a way to make it their own while being respectful of the original. It's the only cover of the song I'll listen to as much as I do to the original. But if you do, be prepared, it's a total tear-jerker. (Geoff Castellucci, their bass and the arranger for this one, said he cried while he was mixing it... makes sense to me.)

The 1961 version of Love Without End was so popular that it spawned another Love Without End I think in 1971. This one stars Jenny Hy (she has some Portuguese blo9d) and Lin Yun (he has an aristocratic look reminiscent of Elvis Presley).
