I Just Met Dan Inosanto at the Long Beach Khmer Kick Boxing about 6 years Ago ! He was training in a Kick Boxing class for Seniors ! I asked Him what was it Like Training with Bruce Lee and He said " Bruce was a Natural "!

These two were the best of friends. Dan actually taught Bruce how to use nunchaku, which were not really seen in films until Bruce used them, starting with the Green Hornet series in the 60s. Dan named his daughter Diana Lee after him. Bruce was her godfather. Dan cried for the longest time when Bruce died, and was a pallbearer at his funeral in Seattle.

Sorry girls, the clue is in the title of the the film. "Game of Death." This is the 1978 edited version of the scene whereas since 2001 there has been the complete 9 minute version available. Here is some info into the fight. For starters the tapping at the beginning was in fact the secret knock used to enter Bruce's LA Chinatown school where Dan was the assistant instructor. The low kick is a JKD technique called Attack by Draw (ABD). Bruce is drawing Dan's attention down to create an opening for an attack. Bruce's strike to Dan's wrist is an Eskrima technique called "de-fanging the snake." It means attacking the opponents hand holding the weapon to disarm him. The use of kicks is Bruce exploiting Dan's reliance on weapons. And finally it is OK to kill Dan as Dan is wearing the red moro headband which represents Dan's character of Pascal has sworn an oath to fight to the death. Bruce wanted to show the limitations within each style until he fights Kareem on the last floor which is the temple of the unknown, mirroring his own Jeet Kune Do. You are right as in reality anything goes. Great fun review of my favourite fight scene.😁👍🐉

Hey Sayaka, hey Lisa. Loved this reaction vid you two did together. Loved the WTF moments you had when Bruce was using kicks during the battle, but ya' gotta remember that Jeet Kune Do is about flexibility and adaptation. Pasqual (Insosanto's character didn't adapt and therefore, his rehearsed routine with the escrimas couldn't keep up with Bruce's 'broken rhythm'). In response to 5:04- I'm not sure if you two have seen the whole movie yet, but in both versions, Danny's character is an adversary to Bruce Lee's character. In the incomplete version of Game of Death, Pasqual is the third level guardian and Hai Tien (Bruce's character) must defeat him and several other guardians in order to rescue Bruce's sister who was kidnapped by a Korean crime syndicate to force him into battle against the Seven level Pagoda guardians. I'm guessing it was an anything goes style battle which explains why Hai Tien choked him out with his weapon so brutally. In the improvised version of Game of Death (where Kim Tai Jung is doubled for Bruce because he died before this film was completed), Pasqual is one of the syndicate enforcers for Dr. Land (the big baddie of the movie), hence why Bruce's character kinda goes all out with Pasqual in this match after toying with him like a cat does a mouse for a while. During the first two fights in this movie, Pasqual and some of the syndicate motorcycle riders were double-teaming Billy (Bruce's character in this version) badly though in one of the battles he can't go all out because his lady-friend Anne (played by Colleen Camp) is present and her life is being threatened in front of him. So when Hai Tien/Billy and Pasqual finally have their rematch in the nunchaku fight, Bruce doesn't hold back. Pasqual is part of the group that endangered his woman's life and tried to take Hai Tien/Billy's life away from him when he refused to be exploited by them. Hence why Hai Tien/Billy chokes him out so brutally at the end of the match.

There's a relatively recent video called Dan Inosanto on JKD. It's about 15 minutes long. He illustrates Bruce Lee's fighting method in a nutshell, with the help of a few colleagues and wooden dummies. It's very enlightening!

I don't think there was anything explicit or implied that it would just be nunchucks only, I haven't seen this in awhile but I don't remember anything, I thought it was just "whatever". Good lesson though, don't mess with Bruce lol

Nunchak fights are too rare to have rules. Part of Jeet Kune Do is to do whatever it takes. Guess cheating is part of it. “Hey Dan, what’s that? Wa!!”

To make it short: A Nun-chucks is only a tool, like a Bo staff in a Karate fight, so yes, it's fair. In martial arts you use what weapon/s you have at your disposal, and that includes your own limbs.

2009 the former president GMA signed the law declaring Arnis as the national martial art and sport. So how come it was banned. Seen tournaments back home. Maybe during Spanish time it was banned coz Filipinos used it as a weapon against the Spaniards.

If I was fighting you with a bo staff but instead of jabbing you or swinging it at you and I instead threw it at you that's supposed to be not fair? That's ridiculous. A WEAPON is a WEAPON, PERIOD; you use it in any way that inflicts any damage. If course Lee can use the rope of the chucks, just like Dan can. On top that, this the Art of War.
