You would like Charlies rendition of Hank Williams "Kaw-Liga". Charley Frank Pride was an American singer, guitarist, and professional baseball player. Beginning his career as a Negro league baseball player in the early-1950s, he later pursued a career in country music, becoming the genre's first major black superstar. Wikipedia Born: March 18, 1934, Sledge, MS Died: December 12, 2020 (age 86 years), Dallas, TX Nationality: American Children: Tyler Pride, Dion Pride Spouse: Rozene Cohran (m. 1956-2020)

Fun fact: Charley Pride was the 1st artist who broke the 'no touring' ban in Northern Ireland during the Troubles and as a result, he won fans on both the Catholic and Protestant sides. He became emotional and began crying while singing 'Crystal Chandeliers' because of the risk the crowd took to come to watch him.

Growing up I knew a lot of my extended family was racists, but my parents always had friends of color. Late '70s, I'm a little kid in line for HOURS with my family for first-come/first-server tickets to the Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Mecca in Nashville Tennessee. My rural Pennsylvania grandparents were with us. Havoc broke out when a kid even younger than me came out of a bar a block from our location (at the front of the line) and started shouting "Charlie Pride is in here! Charlie Pride is here!" I'd never seen my grandfather run before. The picture of him with his arm around Charlie Pride, both men smiling like they'd been best friends for years, was on his living room wall for the rest of his life. It had an impact on me and I'm sure it helped some of my family move in the right direction.

The Gaither Vocal Band had a TV show and this one Country Family Reunion I guess - as you said - probably were very similar. I did not have cable TV when I was younger nor when I was older. So I missed a lot of TV shows. But I do know that they would often have incredible talent in their own show members but also have many great guests. I was so excited that you played this song. I love him, Charley Pride. Unfortunately he was a bit laxidasical here because he was allowing the family to sing along (bc they love him too and can't help but sing along on his songs!). That little ditty thing he did where people laughed is bc a certain guitar riff that is so iconic (for that time period) and is integral to the song... it was missing.. bc the house band was playing or whatever system they had going. I mean it's the little things that can make big differences. I just loved every mi'nute thing about his voice, the notes, the story, the performance and his big smile and tender ways. You know what I'm talking about! Haha. Thx B! 💜✌🎵
