Dolly did a lot of extended live radio and TV in her early career, and she developed those skills of being able to keep the conversation going with the audience, if she makes a mistake, she just carries on, and she has a great sense of humor, so she cracks jokes a lot and often makes herself the target of the joke. "do you know why my waist and feet are so small? because things don't grow in the shade."

Saw Dolly in the 80’s in concert. A man was trying to hand her flowers from the 1st row….she said “Honey you’ll need to reach a little higher because if I bend down any more you’ll have get the milk man to help me back up”

Someone asked her in an interview about all her wigs and heavy makeup and she replied, “Honey, it costs a lot of money to look this cheap.” Classic Dolly, master of self deprecating humor.

Dolly is the best. I have never heard a bad thing about her. Years ago Dolly was interviewed by Barbara Walters who for whatever reason was extremely condescending and disrespectful to Dolly. The way Dolly handled it is a masterful example of what a truly classy woman she is.
@maryannanderson2213 Жыл бұрын
I watched that interview when it first aired all those years ago and it seemed that Barbara went into the interview thinking that she was a lot better than Dolly because Dolly was just a hillbilly who sang country music and of course people who were "sophisticated" didn't like country music, dahlin. "Dolly, (sniff, sniff) are you what WE would call a hillbilly?" and "Dolly, do you think you are a joke?" Barbara may have thought she was being "hard hitting" and showing off her journalistic skills. I thought she was being just downright rude and I was amazed that Dolly was able to keep her composure (and her smile) through the whole thing and Barbara came out of that interview looking small. Barbara tried to demean Dolly and Dolly just gave her a huge smile and cracked a joke and Barbara ended up demeaning herself. I NEVER liked Barbara Walters after that one interview and my respect for Dolly shot right up into the stratosphere.

Dolly was talking about Keith, and then said she had a crush on Vince, but Amy (Grant) put a stop to that. She's a shameless flirt. There's a video of Vince and Dolly singing "My Kind of Woman/My Kind of Man" that is adorable. She sings, "you're my kind of man," and Vince goes, "I wish!"

She is a very emotional singer/story teller, you need to listen to her sing “I will always love you” which she wrote in a weekend along with the song “Jolene”. One of my favorites is “me and little Andy”, or “he’s alive”, “coat of many colors”. She is 1 of 11 children and she grew up in the mountains where her amusement park is, she also started a literacy program that provides books to children all over the US free of charge. Just a great woman

Dolly has some of the funniest stories. Some true. Some not. But they are so funny you might laugh hard and pee a little 😂. There's the story about a bear. And one about an older gentleman who just sat down and asked if he could eat with her and her husband. You should look them up. Kenny Rodgers said if she thinks it she says it. 😊

Interesting question - if you love someone, set them free, as Sting says (good song, interesting video) . But that doesn't guarantee YOUR happiness, sometimes doing the right thing doesn't turn out well for you. But it's still the right thing.

HOPE YOU READ THIS!! She is hilarious and always has been. I have tried 2 or maybe 3 times to tell you this story but I know you haven't seen it yet because I know you would have acknowledged it if you had seen it. This is my last try. Back in the 70s Dolly was on all the talk shows and she ALWAYS had some funny country wisdom. But this is the main one I remember. Phil Donahue asked her " With 12 siblings and parents in a 1 (or 2, can't remember) room house with no running water... how did you bathe in the winter?" Without thought she said, "Well we just washed down as far as possible and up as far as possible...Then we run the boys outside and washed possible."
