I've seen some comedians talk bad about George Carlin's last several specials because he wasn't as funny, but rather more of a philosopher (as you said), but to me, that is what made him so special. He was still funny, but rather than telling fart jokes, he actually had some insight that we would all do well to listen to. He was a genius, and he used his prowess as a performative orator to say something meaningful, rather than getting a cheap laugh. He was a scholar of the English language and how it is used to distort the truth. And to me that is the basic science behind comedy anyway... He just took it one step further the expose all our BS, and he did it with such finesse and confidence all the way to the end. He's one of the GOAT's. To hell with anyone who disagrees, they're either too dumb to understand, or they're in flat denial for some other purpose.

Carlin was so incredibly self aware, of both himself as an individual and as a human being observing the species as a whole. I have no proof, but I feel like as he aged, he may have realized his time on a platform was becoming increasingly shorter. I feel like he began tackling things that he really found essential because he wasn't completely sure of how much time he had left to orate on such topics. He obviously laced it all with brilliant humor, but it felt like the last dozen or so years of his life, he devoted his comedic platform to educating people on things he was passionate about...maybe not. Just felt that way. Saw him live twice, really miss him....

About the number of species going extinct, yeah it's true, numbers vary nowadays from 50 to 200 per day BUT, each year we discover around 15,000 to 18,000 new ones (mostly insects and plants) so there's that... Think of it as replacements, sure species disappear all the time but they're replaced by new ones...

@@jared699 What he meant is that both new (already existing) species are discovered, AND actually new one emerge as well. We are still losing more than we find/ emerge, but that will on continue till we eventually wise up or go extinct ourselves. George is one of the greatest comedians who have ever lived, but he was definitely more than that yes! He spent the majority of his career in comedy doing more of what some would call a "more traditional routine," but the man was clearly very intelligent and by the time he started to get older, he seems to have shifted his focus to a much broader scope of topics and discussion, while still being hilarious. The last three specials he did before his passing are some of my favorites in comedy history, so please do more!

I saw him live once about 25 years ago. During his show I think he managed to say something that insulted everyone's beliefs or feelings at least once, and they still found it funny. With todays generation, they would look on it as 'hate speech', but only the parts they wanted to agree with. Everything else would be fine with them. They don't see that there is a difference between 'Hate Speech', and speech they hate.

i caught George in concert at billings montana (of all places) back in '99 i think. i took a friend with me because she had never seen or heard of George before. because i had done some work in the past for the theater, i had "a deal" with the management that i could call in favors in exchange for off-the-clock work on their telephone system (i worked for a telephone company at the time). anyhow... i got tickets that were literally front row, center. George was so close, he could have sweated on me. but, as he came out onto the stage, i was so excited for my friend to experience her first dose of GC, i said to her, _"You're going to love him. He's hilarious."_ of course, life being what it is, i said this to her just as the applause died and George heard me. his response was priceless. he looked at my friend and said, _"He's right you know. Give that man a blow job."_ she laughed and said, _"We're just friends."_ he shot back, _"What could be more friendly?"_ then, he got on with the show.

He loved to tell the younger generations that the older generations are used to doing things a certain way. To leave us be. To give us some space because we know what we're doing. We don't need the car to park for us. We learned that in driving school. Back up beepers to tell us how close we are to the car behind us? Nope, don't need it. 8:10 You probably haven't heard, but some places offer a different alternative... ...not plastic... ...not paper... ...PASTA! Straws made of edible spaghetti flour that can hold their shape in cold drinks! In all fairness, I haven't tested them in hot drinks, so I don't know how long they can last before they soften.

Carlin, what can I say that hasn't been said already? He was a philosopher/genius/comedian, In his senior years, unlike in his earlier career, when he was the "hippie, dippie weatherman" or doing just his regular comedy standup, he was extremely funny and would you laugh until you cried, but as he aged, and educated himself, he sought to educate others and make them think on their own, along with some laughter and comedy thrown in, He is definitely in my top 3 comedians of all time, and he is truly missed, RIP Mr. Carlin, we..❤ you, my freind, great reaction Ms. Britt, I am glad you enjoyed this, I would certainly enjoy seeing you watch more of George carlin, hope all is well with you, take care..👍👍👍

We’re up to 150-200 species going extinct daily now. We’re also living in the middle of the sixth mass extinction event. George would be so proud of us!!

I like paper straws because they remind me of my childhood. My family lived in a rural area, and we didn't go out to eat often, so even a hamburger, way before McDonald's, was a treat. The smell and yes the taste, it does add a papery flavor, just reminds me. Just thought I would throw that in.

George Carlin was Mr Conductor on the children's show Shining Time Station in the late 70's. He has a long history as an entertainer. His comedy got more adult when he started working with HBO since he didn't have to censor himself anymore.

George Carlin was one of the best... he started comedy in the 1950's. Listening more to him, you will enjoy yourself, and learn A LOT. He is a lot like Bill Burr, George is a truth teller.

On extinction. It's currently estimated that between 100 to 200 species a year ago extinct, with some estimates going as high as 2,000 a year. Although, that's at the extreme end. The average rate of extinction, without any outside interference, (asteroids, catastrophic eruptions, or humans.) Is estimated to be around 1 to 5 species a year. Because of this, many scientists say we are living during the 6th mass extinction event. And pretty much entirely caused by humans. But like George says, if we were to go away, the planet would be just fine. 😅

I do not like paper straws but I live in Thailand where we have bamboo straws (and glasses). Much better than paper or plastic. Bamboo is a grass and grows so quickly it is easily sustainable.
