Hey, Brit🩵...this beautiful song was written by Linda Thompson, Elvis's long-time girlfriend & the lyrics are about their relationship. It makes it even more poignant when you know that. After Elvis & Priscilla divorced, Linda was with Elvis for 4 years & and lived with him at Graceland during those years, up until a year before his death. She showed an interest in writing & Elvis encouraged her to write poetry & lyrics. Every time I hear this song I wonder what Elvis would've thought of it. I think he would've been proud of her success as a songwriter & author. By all accounts they really cared about each other even though they couldn't make it permanent.
