Another artist we lost way too early. It's amazing how many rising music artists have died in plane crashes. "Time In A Bottle", "Operator", "Bad Bad Leroy Brown", "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", all great songs by Mr Croce

Jim Croce (crow-chee) was a superior songwriter, storyteller and music maker in an era of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. He was taken from us way too young (plane crash) but his songs are timeless. RIP Jim.

A marvelous troubadour and storyteller. Love "Operator," "I've Got a Name" and "New York's Not My Home" among so many others. His accompanying guitarist Maury Muehleisen always added some lovely touches along with sweet low-key background vocals on Jim's songs. He perished (at just 24) along with 30 year-old Jim in that heartbreaking plane crash.

It's a cigar. Jim unfortunately was killed in a plane crash 50 years ago. His song I Got A Name was released as scheduled the next day. He wrote in a letter to his wife while on tour that he was considering giving up music to pursue screen writing. She received the letter after he passed.
@tattoodude8946 Жыл бұрын
I remember hearing that - he decided to step away from the music business because of its predatory tactics on artists just before his tour ended. He was making no money and working his butt off, being away from his family and he had had enough... and before he could walk away, he died in that tragic accident. Heartbreaking and yet somehow appropriate for a man that wrote so many heart wrenchingly beautiful songs.

Jim Croce and his acoustic guitar has such a mellow, soothing sound. My father used to play guitar and sing his songs when I was really young…. hearing this reminds me of that time. The “happy little trees” painter you’re thinking of is Bob Ross. My 16 year old son, with his crazy hair, often draws comparisons to him.
@baktraxstudio7250 Жыл бұрын
You nailed that voice, soothing. Absolutely. The kind of singer that didn't need a band. Just him and a guitar was all that was required. And a unique voice. Even when you didn't know the song back in the day, you heard that voice, you knew right away. Jim Croce.

Jim's name is pronounced Crow-she. Jim was deeply in love with his wife Ingrid and was considering giving up his music career and new-found fame because he had to spend so much time away from her and their baby son. Jim wrote her a letter telling her all this right before he went on stage one night. Unfortunately, that would be his last show and he died in a plane crash later that night. Ironically, his wife received the letter a week after his death.
