Don’t count your money at the table; when successful don’t flaunt it: Every hands a winner, every hands a loser: meaning every action in life has options and a choice; Lots more but the gambling is an analogy and not the literal meaning. Just a brilliant song and amazing voice

No, you understood correctly. When the gambler crushed out his cigarette, looked into the dark, and fell asleep he "broke even" by dying in his sleep.

If anyone's making fun of Kenny Rogers, it means they know his name but have never heard a single song of his in their life, one of the greatest voices and lyricism of any genre. "Coward of the County" will blow your mind.

You got it right, the gambler passed away in his sleep. The song is literally about gambling, but the advice was figuratively about life in general.

I love Kenny Roger’s! When everyone was listening to Michael Jackson, I was listening to Kenny, oak ridge boys, Silvia, Alabama, Crystal Gail. 5th grade… probably the only only one that listened to country in my school. And I didn’t care. Still love it! I love pop, classic rock, blues, etc as well… but the old country…❤

Because my father was always in charge of the radio I was listening to Kenny Rogers ,Dolly Parton Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder Lionel Richie Diana Ross Celia Cruz Julio Iglesias. I was late to hip-hop. These days young people have their own phones iPads don’t get me wrong. I am not hating on young people. This just my observation

Music is music, man. No one should have to fall into a genre bucket. I know classical pianists who love rock - and hardcore rockers who love the classics. Whatever…if music brings joy then listen and enjoy…who cares what category it is in. Lol - probably going to date myself, but I’ll say it…I grew up listening to Kenny Rogers and every time I hear one of his songs, brings back so many memories of my youth. So many great songs….Lady, Lucille, Coward of the County, islands in the Stream (duet w/Dolly Parton), and so many others. Keep it coming! You said three people…now you only need two more…😊

The overall lesson in the song is not just for gambling but for life. So those last lines were about death. Even when he said "The Gambler broke even" meant he died that night.

I saw Kenny three times in concert. Great shows. The old gambler does die. The whole song is actually about life not really gambling. Kenny did five tv movies based on this gambler character. Lady… the most famous Kenny Rogers song. Written by Lionel Richie. We’ve Got Tonight duet with Sheena Easton Islands in the Streams. Duet with Dolly Parton. Considered one of the best duets ever. Kenny Rogers had music awards coming out of his ears. Grammys, CMA….You name it, he won it.

Leave the guys who are hating on Kenny behind. I once saw an interview with a young major league baseball player who said the first thing he had to do once he made it to "the show" was to leave many of his "boys" in his past because he was all about carving out a new future for himself. I'll bet those guys hating on Kenny are probably "LABEL" guys. They have to label everything. And since Kenny is often associated with "country", which I'm sure your boys make fun of, they've just gone with the "LABEL" they don't like and decided they don't like Kenny for that reason. Be smarter and more sophisticated than them. . .I'm sure you are, but don't try to figure them out. They're just not very smart.

Great reaction. For me, the most important thing for The Gambler, best said, the gamblers, is to die at home sleeping, for them, the game's table is their work place. Every gambler must to know when is better to pull back and go home. At this story, the teacher die sleeping, after crushed his cigarrette. I would like to suggest "The coward of the county", an incredible story that can bring you to tears. Btw, Home Free have made a very beautiful cover of this song, I would like to recommend you too.

I think you're ready to start listening to Home Free, one of the best a cappella groups out there, with an incredible Beatboxer (and a huge fan base). They do a cover of The Gambler and collaborated with Kenny on an amazing old gospel tune, Children Go Where I Send Thee. A good place to start is with their cover of Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash), which also features the bass from Pentatonix, Avi Kaplan. Or with Man of Constant Sorrow.

Hey buddy, how are you doing? Look I'm no Country music fan, but I can appreciate Kenny. The story is about a guy who encounters this 'gambler' on a train, and when he says 'I can tell you're out of aces', he means in life. The advice he gives about gambling is a metaphor for life, and it works, clever Kenny. Oh, and yeah, after one last drink and smoke, the gambler passes away in his sleep, you got it. Try 'Coward Of The County' for another great story by him. ❤

Kenny played this character in the Gambler series of 5 TV movies. They were fun westerns. ~ Kenny has many 'story' songs like this. 'Coward of the county', or Lucille' are good examples. To hear something beautiful from him, check out his love song, 'Lady'. It was written by Lionel Richie & Lionel also recorded it. I love Kennys first performance of it when he is young & smooth & a lady killer. Then he tops it off by singing it with Lionel in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand, on awards show where Kenny was honoring Lionel, in 2012, I believe. It was a few years before Kenny passed. The song is beautiful & the love between these two men with a 30-year friendship is a beautiful thing to witness. I highly recommend you watching both performances.

New subscriber. Saw Kenny and I had to watch. Love the man. Here is a crash course for Kenny newbies. He is extremely versatile. For love song Kenny, react to: 1) LADY ( pick the video of him live in concert wearing a white suit) 2) YOU DECORATED MY LIFE For naughty Kenny, react to: 1) MORNING DESIRE (Live Aid concert) 2) DAYTIME FRIENDS AND NIGHT TIME LOVERS For Storytelling Kenny, react to: 1) LUCIILLE 2) RUBY, DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN (video of young Kenny in a band, First Edition, and the band members are lined in a row in white clothes.) 3) COWARD OF THE COUNTY For Kenny songs that show the love of being a parent, react to: 1) BEAUTIFUL, ALL THAT YOU CAN BE (video of Kenny and his son, cody) 2) THE GREATEST (video where the child has brown hair, not blonde and is from the album, ( "she rides wild horses") For songs of Kenny before he went solo, he was in a band called, Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. React to... 1) TELL IT ALL BROTHER 2) JUST DROPPED IN TO SEE WHAT CONDITION MY CONDITION WAS IN (Kenny is young with long hair, an earring and looks high as a kite. the song is a drug song.😅)

Dude, he's not at a table, he's on a train bound for no where. His not gambling with the guy, he's traveling with him. Train bound for no where means his life has no direction. The old gambler says I can see you're out of aces means i can tell your life is currently in the shitter. I'm old but I still got some game so I can still get the last of your whiskey (my last swallow) not even pay for my last cigarette, and even get you to light it. And now I'll lay some wisdom on your ass. Don't count your money at the table. (It's not over till its over) Every hands a winner And every hands a loser,(every one has advantages and challenges and it is up to you to make something of your life) And the best that you can hope for is to die in your sleep. (You can't take none of it with you so keep what is really important in perspective) Then he demonstrated what winning actually looks like by dying in his sleep.
