Larry's real name is Daniel Whitney. He was a stand-up comedian and radio personality for a while and developed several characters that he'd perform, but the character of Larry the Cable Guy REALLY took off, so he decided to make that his professional persona. It became a big success and he soon hooked up with Jeff Foxworthy and the Blue Collar tour.

One of my favorite bits by him and i'm probably not quoting this right but he said something along the lines of it's my tenth year in comedy and my second year being funny lmao Daniel has some real talent

I met Larry (Dan Whitney) back in the early 2000's in Lincoln Nebraska. We were at the air show. My daughter had cancer. I think she was in remission at this time. We were invited on the kids day by cancer camp Camp Quality. He was there to interact with the kids. He stayed later than hw planned. He is a big Husker fan. I am a big Hawkeye fan. So I didn't have anything for him to autograph. So I took my Hawkeyes hat off for him to sign. He looked at me and said he ought to charge me for signing it. Then we started talking about football. Super nice guy!!

I met Larry once about 10 years ago in the media center at Texas Motor Speedway Speedway. He was out of character (and no, he really doesn’t talk like that) and he was one of the nicest people you could ask for. Came across as the total opposite of the character. Just a nice, humble, genuinely appreciative person.

I once watched an old clip of Daniel Whitney doing stand-up comedy. Cleanshaven, kind of long, curly hair, tan khakis, and a dress shirt with BOTH SLEVES! Once Larry took off, Daniel said he uses that voice a lot, so he wouldn't lose it. His family moved to Florida when he was a teenager. He did radio shows there for free, which got him a very large fanbase very quickly. Funny and smart!😸Like you!

Larry is so quick witted. He’s one of those comedians where if you aren’t listening closely you’ll miss some of them he drops them so fast.
@atlasisshrugging9 күн бұрын
The trouble is that he's so "in character" that you forget that you're listening to a comedian; it's like you're listening to "that one guy" who stops in at the gas station or convenience store regularly and always has a story to tell. You could be only half-listening, but then he drops a one-liner that catches you off-guard and you just loose it.🤣
