At the very opening of the song - they are playing a cover of a famous 1970's song called "More Than A Feeling" by the band Boston. It's a way of messing around with the crowd before jumping into the actual song. I love live performances of great bands - and this is one of them - but it might have been better to experience the studio recording first and then look at a live performance - very different experience. Heh, a bit painful to have to read someone describe More Than A Feeling as a "famous 1970''s song by the band Boson." I would have hoped it would have been more of a "They're playing 'More Than A Feeling' at the start, because they 'repurposed' the intro to the song for this song."

You should learn up on Kurt Cobain (lead man) and Dave Grohl (drummer). Kurt is long gone, but his is an interesting story with a lot of questions left unanswered. And Dave is still doing big things in the rock business. Look up Foo Fighters or any of his other side projects. I would recommend Foo Fighters - The Pretender. ✌️☝️❤️

I scrolled through a few of these comments, but saw nothing (I'm sure I would have seen comments if I went through all of them), so I'll throw this out there: The title here says "Reading 1994." This was Reading 1992. Kurt was dead for four months by Reading 1994. Speaking of Reading 1992, the guy bouncing around the stage, talked about at 3:32 or so of this video, is Tony The Interpretative Dancer. He did the same thing for their set the year before, at Reading 1991. He started out by picking them up at the airport a few years earlier and became friends. He would often dance at their shows in the UK.

Sounded like they were messing around in the beginning and even the second time they started some1 started messing around with the guitar again but they continued anyway 😂 This is grunge, it was he embodiment of what many teenagers in the early 90ies were feeling, that the world was becoming this corporate machinery where everyone had to just follow the rules, be just marionette copies of each other and no1 were allowed to have an identity anymore or they could kiss a chance for a job goodbye, so grunge was a way to just express urself and be whatever u want to be

No, this was a standard live show for them at the time. Just their regular raw sound. I'm guessing that the "salty at MTV" event you're thinking of is their performance of this at Top Of The Pops (TOTP). Search "Nirvana Butchers Smells Like Teen Spirit On Purpose." It's a classic moment. As background: When they got to play TOTP, they were told they were going to sing live vocals but over recorded instrumentations. This pissed them off, so they made an absolute mockery of the whole thing, taking advantage of the vocals being live, as well as just making it painfully obvious they were not playing the actual music. They did have heat with MTV, but it came out in a different form. at the 92 VMA's. They wanted to play their song "Rape Me," but MTV demanded they play a single. As a protest, they played the first few bars of "Rape Me" during the show before switching to Lithium, which was reacted to on this channel, but with the "Rape Me' part cut off.
