This is the third song she has missed out on from the original perspective. Kinda sucks. I'm getting used to it. Let's see if this can compare. As reactors, they miss out on what WE experienced when they pick the wrong versions. It leaves a disconnect.
@dsfddsgh
@dsfddsgh Жыл бұрын
It's frustrating when reactors insist on playing the inferior live versions especially when the artist or band is way past their prime. Just stick to the studio version first to understand how the song sounded when it became popular then play a live version later if you want.

The guitar jank -- the chu-chunk, chu-chunk -- that occurs before the rise into "But I'm a Creep", was improvised by Jonny Greenwood who thought the song sounded too quiet.

Conan did "Late Night" from 1993 - 2009, then quit to take over "The Tonight Show" when Jay Leno "retired". Then Jay squeezed him out to take back over. Then Conan left NBC to start "Conan" on TBS...which he did from 2010 - 2021. Now he just does a podcast and an XM Radio show, but really seems to enjoy it...and it's very successful.

I was in high school when this one came out. You’re actually getting an edited version of this song. It doesn’t have the same angst! There’s a live version at a music festival which really captures the song. You can hear the pain in Thom’s voice over this woman who won’t give him the time of day.

Thomas wrote it about a girl in college but he couldn't talk to her due to how he felt about himself. He tried to talk to her after drinks but he couldn't bring himself to speak and she ran away. Later he sang this song at an MTV event and she was in the crowd. They made eye contact and she realized what it was about.

Radiohead doesn't "like" this song. For them it's a throw away that became a hit. They play it occasionally but Thom has said, "the best thing about Creep is it bought us a bigger touring bus"! Regardless, it's a Radiohead classic, loved by millions of fans! always a smooth, chill reaction.

Worth noting that Thom had several operations on his eye - on top of his shyness and different personality he also had a visible facial difference. You know what people are like, Im sure he had a lot of grief and selfdoubt. PS You have done two songs by them that are both about emotional trauma - maybe try a slightly more upbeat one next from them? Id suggest the From the Basement version of Optimistic or Reckoner. You wont regret sticking with them 🙂

That was brilliant ... something about the melody sounds 'important'... that's brilliance. Significant is a good word too for something or some experience that gives you frisson -- offered as someone enjoying the benefits of time, leisure and a thick thesaurus (one so thick it has a synonym for Thesaurus). Culturally significant... maybe
@user-gi3vd7ju8d

The reason the melody sounds so potent is that Radiohead utilize the old Beatles songwriting trick of resolving a chord from major to minor. In this song in particular, it changes from C Major to C minor.

prince roger nelson did his version of ''creep'' at coachella 2008 and it was so good that radiohead made sure it was available on YT at all costs - this is when none of prince's videos were on YT because of the battle he had with sony over the rights to his music - girl i can not believe you don't have more prince on this channel - he is only THE greatest artist ever to step on to a stage - played 27 instruments wrote produced sung everything on his own - dressed like a lady and would still walk out the club with your girl - there will never be another like him - PS prince made/chnged this song by doing one simple thing - he changed the ''i'' as in ''i dont belong here'' to ''you' you dont belong here'' --- from i to you turns this song on its head - prince

Ok so when Thom wrote this it was about a gir who was a regular at a local pub he was visually infatuated with and his own insecurities. Johnny Greenwood (guitarist) chugs before the chorus were actually done in protest against how soppy the song was . The label wanted a ballady song and Thom would say this was their 'Johnny Walker' song and the label thought they were doing a cover. Thom later said he regretted admitting that the song was actually written about someone as he was pestered about her identity in interviews and people trying to work out who she was.

I don’t think people realize that the label wanted them to write a ballad, and to stick the middle finger to their label they wrote this song… however… it backfired on them and the label loved it, cut the record and it becomes one of their most popular songs. But you can really tell in this performance of the song just how much they don’t like this song.😂 rewatch it through that lens… pretty crazy

@wfly81

I don't think it was meant to be either an anthem or a means of self-loathing. I think it was just very young, very awkward people expressing their self-consciousness just because they felt the need. I agree that it has become a bit of an anthem for the social misfits and outcasts of the world today. But at the time, I think the meaning was simply "I wish I wasn't this way." But good news. If you watch interviews with the lead singer today (Thom Yorke...pronounce "Tom"), he's much older, much more confident in who he is, and can be very charming and funny. Still very soft-spoken in his demeanor, but a lot more fully realized as a person.

This song is about how most people feel in high school, and it captures that feeling SO well. Today, you could sing the same lyrics, but come from the perspective of a young woman scrolling through Instagram. I feel like the thing about rock musics not tipping off their real vocal ability sort of mirrors great impressionist artists. Before they took up impressionism, they were excellent painters in the traditional style, but moved on to a totally different challenge.

This was their first album…so very unknown. With that in mind this song is personal to the writer, and wouldn’t have known that it would have become massive. I don't think Radiohead have any material written with the audience's response or interpretation in mind, because… Thom Yorke, the lead singer. He does all the lyrical content and therefore decides the subject matter for the whole catalogue, it's all personal to him and he never gives the impression that his songwriting considers his audience's opinions or experiences. Luckily for him (and us) he is surrounded by top-quality musicianship to arrange and execute his abstract notions to complement his work and turn it into something bigger. All band members are multi-instrumentalists, and all except Colin (bass) have their own solo albums or film scores.

This was my personal anthem as a teen. I thought I was a creep. Turns out I was right and thats ok.

Not 100% sure but ive heard he wrote this about a girl he had a crush on but wasnt confident enough to approach even though hed see her in the crowd at his shows. Something along those lines at least

I always thought that this was more about "unrequited young love". He is deeply smitten by one of those "beautiful, popular girls", but he's not part of that crowd so to her, he's just a creep and a weirdo (you know, all those sharp, deep cutting names that teens are SO good at using to demean the outcasts? Kids are cruel, very cruel and he's just cut to the bone by how much it hurts). THAT'S how it always came across to me, but that's probably because I know exactly how that feels to be treated like that by the one person in the world who you want to even notice you... maybe even actually smile at you, even once. That was a long, LONG time ago now, but the memory still hurts at times. If you have children, PLEASE teach them to be decent humans. Just because someone isn't in your social group doesn't mean you automatically have to be mean and rude to them. I'm not saying they should not hang with who they want, but that doesn't mean they have to be cruel to others in the process. Know what I mean?

i agree, no matter how much i despise this song thom's vocal is always so amazing in this song. radiohead is mainstream for decades, but i still think hes really underappreciated as a vocalist (listen to his other songs, p sure hes self taught yet still sounds like an angel.)

You know what? I’m going to react to a classic song. I’ll watch them perform on a TV show. Good luck with your channel.

IMHO this song is Beautiful but it is very very dark. He was skinning her so that he could have her forever. at the end he is locked up in a mental place. She escaped him.
