Fun fact: the author of this series started writing it because his friends were too busy to play Dungeons and Dragons with him. Similarly he has based all of the plot points in Overlord on Dungeons and Dragons. It's also worth noting that he played the Dungeon master in DnD, so thats why he is good at world building and story telling

Overlord is one of the few animes I've rewatched multiple times, and you ALWAYS catch something new that you didn't see before ONLY because you know whats ahead and you look for the prep. And honestly they planned out each action, each frame, so well... it really is worth watching. Maybe you could ask Crunchyroll for permission to see if they'll allow you to post a reaction video for each season!!! And honestly Season 4 is still releasing new episodes so it is BOOMING in popularity!!! Any chance Crunchyroll could take to spread word of their show is welcomed I'd guess. I know I personally like to know how others react to shows I liked.

Overlord is certainly more than meets the eye. The "Antagonists" are the ones whom perspective you see it from, but it is not nearly as simple as that either. Something you immediately learn through the very first episode alone. It is a blend of dark, comedy, action and ever so sprinkled with drama. The "evil" side has good people in it as well (not really a spoiler as it is revealed practically the moment you see him - the Butler is good aligned, but he is a servant of the same leader as everyone around him), which adds to the whole schism that you would naturally expect.. yet not in the way you WOULD expect. It is not unique in the perspective that it is an Isekai anime. However it is very unique in how it deals with this situation. You start wondering how would you yourself would handle such a situation. Highly suggest you do give the show a chance.

Excelent summary! I have one correction tho. Ains Ool Gown are the protagonists. The protagonist is just the person from whose point of view you see the story, and the antagonist is the one oposing them one way or another. What roles (hero, villain, bystander, etc.) they have outside of that does not matter.

Also I find it amazing that every Overlord openings and endings so far have been so good. Usually there will come a time within the lifespan of a show when I find one of the op inferior to the precedent that got me so pumped, but there they seem to double up in awsomeness with each season. If you liked "Voracity" then try "Crazy scary holy fantasy" which is the song of the overlord movie and tend not to show up if you search with opening or ending as keywords.

Ainz wasn't evil till the half the of season 3 were his ruins were discovered by these greedy adventurers and became full on sadistic and emotionless. By the time i finished watching the other season I hated Ainz so much

In DnD terms (which the series is heavily based off of) he is a tragic true Lawful Neutral character who ends up doing objectively evil things due to multiple factors both in and out of his control. Demiurge on the other hand. Dont look up what his happy farm really is if you dont know already

It's just a matter of perspective. If you're a denizen of Nazerick, Ainz is a genuinely good ruler both in moral and practical terms. He listens to their concerns, encourages their interests, tries to teach them lessons, and provides a kind of guidance they need in the new world. His #1 concern is always their safety and happiness. Even when someone screws up, fails, or annoys him he's pretty gentle about correcting them. Problem is if you're not a denizen of Nazerick or one of his subjects under his protection. If you're more useful to him dead than alive, then it's been nice knowing you.

I loved Hollow Hunger the most, it displayed how Overlord has such Dark humour. The uppity and fast popping beat reminds you how things are quickly escalating and the situation is getting more intense faster and faster, but the humour in the beat never leaves because the people who have read the light novel know how everything is so 'pointless'; I won't spoil much cause the show is a blast.

Overlord is definitely a show I recommend watching, it's fun and it keeps your attention through out the season. The anime follow the "bad guy" but it's just based on perspective in general. This anime also have plenty of world building and grand politic

Not a spoiler, but something I think most people miss. This is a dark fantasy world, at best most characters have gray morality, if not evil fighting evil. It's why we have a villain protagonist, but still root for him to win.

Overlord, as the name implies, is a show that focuses on the "villain" of the story. Essentially, Momonga, by his username, was a gamer of a famous and long-running RPG, Yggdrasil, which is about to shut down it's servers for good. As the time hits 0, he realizes he is no longer in the game, but is now his character. He changes his name to that of his guild, Ainz Ool Gown, because he wants the name to spread to all the corners of the world in hopes of finding his comrades in this new world, if any remain. He doesn't much care for humans in this new world, as they are inferior lifeforms to the creatures of Nazarick, and all the actions he takes in the show are meant to directly benefit Nazarick. The show gets quite dark with themes and doesn't shy away from gore. At times, there are like 5 separate storylines crossing paths.

If I recall correctly, Studio Mad House does the animation for this anime, or they're the publisher, I can't remember exactly. But what I CAN remember is that Overlord is literally THE first anime by that studio to get more than just TWO seasons. It's even on its *_FOURTH_* season somehow! It's crazy!

That is mostly because Madhouse is one of the most expensive studios to use, because they produce such high quality work. After S-class studios like Ghibli or Production I.G, Madhouse is certainly high ranking in the A-tier studios.

If you ever decide to watch this as your first anime be prepared for a hell of a ride! This is by far one of the greatest animes of our generation, and stands up even through multiple watchthroughs. Plenty of action, story-building, a humor all around. A few of my personal recommendations would be Shokugeki no Soma- Food Wars!, Tokyo Ghoul, and Sword Art Online. Mainstream or not, I thoroughly enjoyed watching and rewatching all of them. You don't have to be a weeb to enjoy a good show!

Voracity is my favorite of the openings as well. I do highly recommended Overlord, I personally passed on it several times because the synopsis sounded too common but the show surprised me. Overlord is very dark when you pay attention to what some of the characters say and do off screen. The show has its moments of blood but not as much as you'd think. If the gore is what you want with it read the light novels, the show is very censored by comparison.

I would describe it less of an explosive voice and more like desperate wailing. He sounds like he's begging for his life. Very appropriate for this anime. Just like how the third opening's singer sounds crazy and unhinged. Definitely sounds like the bands wrote the songs specifically for the show.

@@GOTGames I just wanted to second that... Although I would say you should watch "Fate/Zero" specifically. The action and animation are pretty much top of the industry. It's a prequel to the other FATE shows if I remember correctly and most people recommend you watch it first.

@@CianaCorto The recommendation was purely meant for the openings, even though i like the series i gotta say it's harder to get into than for example Overlord, simply due to the worldsetting, it still has great Animations, Soundtrack and storyline if one is willing to keep attention to it. But it would be foolish to reccomend any Anime to watch when the person knows litteraly nothing about the series, after all the person shall get it's own opinion on a series, thats why the recommendation was simply bound to the openings and "Aimer - Brave Shine" and "Lisa - Oath Sign" especially are great songs overall.

For overlord 3rd opening the band's name is called myth & Roid. The female singer is bilingual if i recall right. Their songs are like you describe very devious sounding and catchy. Some of their album's play out kinda like a story. Would recommend reguardless if a fan or not. Can be found on Apple music, Amazon music and i think Spotify.

It's an amaizing anime, probably one of my all time favourites. It's both very wholesome, wanky and funny at times, dark, epic and emotional at others and completely messed up at others. The cast is also amaizing. The mc, Ainz is trully incredible but I love that less important characters that in other shows would be there just to die get their time to shine. Honestly the first opening is my favourite but I agree that there is no bad opening, it's just a matter of comparison.

Honestly when it comes to Overlord what you see is definitely what you get. It’s surprising how many things hinted at in the opening are in the season for the corresponding opening. (Also just so you know if you do end up watching never exit out of the Ep without checking for after credit scenes! "Overlord" is one of the most Bad Ass Isekai animes I've run across. In depth plot writing and character developments. "Who is the Good Guys and Bad Guys?" We're still determining this. Maybe no one is. We are in season 4 now. Recommended watching!!!

Having read all the novels, Overlord is definitely my favorite anime of all time, following the trope of "guy gets sucked into a game but it's a new world" (before it became overused), very dark, and the main villain is also the protagonist, the anime is over for now, there will be a movie in the near future but that's it, no more Overlord anime for at least a few years since the anime caught up to the source material (light novel). The show doesn't have as many fights as you might be expecting, but the ones that do happen are extremely good and impactful, the anime is pretty bloody, yes, and the characters don't spare no mercy or pity Voracity, the third opening, has to be my favorite of the 4 too, mainly because i love MYTH&ROID, the band behind it, if you liked it then I suggest you watch Youjo Senki's opening and ending, both are made by them (Jingo Jungle for the opening and Los Los Los for the ending)

I would say overlord is rated R. It’s pretty comedic but also pretty dark, it does have action but that’s not really the main reason to watch the show, it’s more about the cool world and characters, and the plot is pretty funny too. Would recommend, they just started releasing episodes for season 4

Guy playing his max level Undead Overlord in a video game stays on the servers too long and it shuts down, not trapping him in the game but shunting him to an unknown world with his entire mausoleum, army and commanders. This new world is familar yet different, like angelic monsters are summons by evil church members, but the Guy recognizes them as low level mobs from the video game. Guy decides the best way to see if anyone else was sent to this world from the video game is to spread his guild name across the world, and has to act as an evil ruler of undeath for his loyal and all serving commanders while he was just an office worker in his old world.

On another watch I might enjoy it more, but the rest of the series is simply amazing. The MC is one of the greatest characters ever written. OMG.

That was quite a good observation, how at first it's hard to see who are the "good" and "bad" guys in the first two openings, then there's more and more distinct "adventurer/faction" groups. It makes sense as the story goes and the main character goes deeper and deeper into the path he chose to follow, entering in contact not only with monster clans, but also human nations.

Ainz is no hero. Ainz is a natural disaster shaking up a corrupt world. No 'heros' like Gazef, Climb, Jircniv, or Zanac could fix the problems of the world in Overlord. They need Ainz there to kick down the rotting foundations and to rebuild anew. Just the existence of the powerful Slain Theocracy and their stance on human over sentient non-human life is too gross.

Season 1 is the MC exploring the new world. Season 2 introduced a number of different factions and the MC testing his NPCs to see if they can develop past their programming - so far, they've only been acting on the background personalities given to them by their programmers. So, you've got the Lizardmen tribes against Cocydus and the army of Nazarick, and The Fingers against The Blue Roses. Season 3 actually focuses on a groups of New Worlders trying to invade the MC's stronghold. It, uh, doesn't end well for the New Worlders. Season 4 is a lot of political intrigue.

Seeing that you liked these, I would suggest watching the Re:Zero openings. The show also tackles darker themes, but has a lot of bright themes to it as well. You'll also get to hear more from Myth & Roid, the band who did Voracity, the 3rd Overlord OP you listened to here.

It is a great show, with a unique perspective on things, the story is being told from the point of view of the evil itself. It is a story about someone that is irreversibly loosing his humanity as he gains more and more power. It is sad, it is tragic, and if this story was to be told from the perspective of other empires it would have been a gruesome horror with lots of blood, despair, tortures, slavery, betrayals and exposed guts involved. It is being told and showed with a comedic aspect, but that is only a mere distraction for the viewers in the beginning, evil is not scared of evil therefore the viewers need to feel calm as they watch it as well. Interesting to watch, but it is extremely tragic. Main character may look dumb and kind at times, but do not be fooled, he is actually a heartless Monster 💀 nonetheless. 10/10 recommended to watch⌚ On second thought, the anime severely hides many things occuring in the background, while only the novel readers are able to fully experience and understand what is actually happening behind the scenes, there are many gruesome things that Nazarick does to helpless people, their tortures are really scary, imagine torturing a priest that believes in god to be turned so insane that he would start praying to a f****king rock 🪨, and yet it wouldn't be the most evil thing they do. In Nazarick death is mercy and they are completely correct when they say so.

I highly recommend Overlord if you've not decided on it already. The show follows the skeletal person, who's called Ainz for most of the show. As he is our MC, that said Overlord's cast is so large and diverse that you literally have a ton of different characters in it. While watching the show, do keep in mind, Ainz, while originally a human gamer playing a popular MMO in which he gets trapped in his in-game avatar, is transported to a different world entirely, and his avatar being undead means he no longer has as much humanity in him, this is not a major spoiler as it's revealed in season 1 very quickly while he sees people die. He thinks about things logically or from the perspective of if it benefits him and his allies (or rather subordinates, the inhabitants of the Great Tomb of Nazarick). If something is a threat to Nazarick, or a strike at the honor of his guild's name (which he took for his own), then it's destroyed. But suffice to say you can often see why he does things, but don't be too surprised by his actions if they sometimes seem cruel or odd, he is undead now after all. Otherwise I'd say go watch it and have fun. I am basically waiting to just binge watch the 4th season when it's done being dubbed (cause for Overlord I do prefer the dub, if anyone gets worked up over that then get over yourself, I've probably seen more anime subbed than you have anyway, it doesn't matter how you prefer to watch a show, just so long as you enjoy the show).
