The one who's voice you said is amazing is Uhm Jung Hwa. She is a really big star and debuted first in the 90s. I am pretty sure in the early 2000's she had thyroid cancer that caused her vocal chords issues and she had to learn how to re-sing and wasn't super confident in herself. Doing this project helped her gain back her confidence and she is absolutely fabulous. She has a song featuring Hwasa and DPR Live called Hop In, you should really check it out. The other lady in yellow on the motorbike is Lee Hyori, originally debuted in Fin.K.L but later debuted as a solo in the early 2000's and is known as the bad girl. She has some amazing songs as well like Bad Girl, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and she did a collab/project group with Rain and Lee Jae Seok (comedian/TV Host) called Ssak3 (their song Beach Again is absolute top tier). For this collab it was one girl from each era (Hwasa in her 20s, Jessi in her 30s, Hyori in her 40s and Jung Hwa in her 50s). They actually did refund the first 100 albums bought as a nod to their name, Refund Sisters. A group full of badass powerful ladies.

You've got four different decades represented in this group. Uhm Jung Hwa, born in 1969, aged 51 at the time of this video Lee Hyori, born in 1979, aged 41 Jessi, born in 1988, aged 31 and Hwasa, born in 1995, aged 25 I think that's so cool. And it makes me want to check out the music that the proper adults in Korea are making. Not just the stuff from those young Kpop kids :D The fact that Uhm Jung Hwa is still singing is quite amazing actually. She had thyroid cancer and while she did fully recover in 2010, her vocal chords were severely damaged in the surgery. She was fully unable to even speak for eight months.

The Refund Sisters was a project group that was originated by a throw away comment made by Lee Hyori during a variety show “Hangout with Yu” in 2020 It consisted of: Uhm Jungwha (red hair) - (born 1969) Lee Hyori (blonde) - (born 1979) Jessi - (born 1988) Hwasa - (born 1995) Uhm Junghwa debuted in 1993 as a soloist. 2 of her most recognisable songs are Invitation and Poison. She was dubbed as South Korea’s Madonna. She has established herself as one of SK’s top actresses. Lee Hyori debuted with FinKL in 1998 and went solo in 2003. She was the biggest star and It Girl in SK. The “Hyori Effect” was a real phenomenon in the 2000’s. Jessi & Hwasa, you know.

All of these women are pretty much magnets for controversy simply because they did something different from the common female artists in their era (they're badass, that's why) which is why the lyrics is like that.

The one with the great voice is the legendary singer and actress Uhm Jung Hwa (age 53) debuted in the 90's. She debuted with her first album "Sorrowful Secret" back in 1993 and had her latest album "The Cloud Dream Of The Nine" 2017. Her discography include some of the most famous songs in Korea e.g. "Pupil" (눈동자), "Rose of Betrayal" (배반의 장미), Poison, "Invitation" (초대), "I Don't Know" (몰라), "Festival" ,"Cross" (크로스), "D.I.S.C.O", "Ending Credit" and so on. She was the pop diva before Kpop existed.

All of them are artists who embraced their sexuality in ways that have been controversial. Honestly I'm impressed by how flexible Lee Hyori is in her 40's. The towering costume at the beginning is a reference to a Uhm Jung Hwa video where she wore that. Episode 4 of Lee Hyori's Seoul check-in was a house party with three members (her, Hwas and Uhm Jung Hwa) plus Boa and Wannsin (a contemporary of Uhm Jung Hwa). It's definitely worth checking out. It feels like Hwasa being inducted in to the secret masters of Kpop. Lee Hyori was also in the Mamamoo documentary. They had a long dinner with her and talked about adjusting to being older artists.

oh this project means everything to me. i really love when jessi says "you can look and stare, but don't touch me", because with her being so sensual in many of her songs and a lot of the way she presents herself, it's like "everything i do is on my terms. if i want to look good and show my ass, im gonna do that, but you only have the right to see as much as i let you. and if i want to open up about something, i can, but that doesn't mean you have any right to other parts of my personal life." it's a well placed jab to a lot of fans who think they are entitled to their idols existence. i also really love hwasa's line "tears are what made me, im used to it", especially because it reminds me of maria. she has a similar line in that song: "if you really wanna see me cry, here, have my tears" and it's a little cheeky, almost, like "i won't lie and say it doesn't hurt me, but if you think im gonna change who i am to please you, you're wrong." the whole message of that song, to me, is "i know there are people who like me the way i am, and most importantly, i like myself the way that i am". so it's a little nod to maria that makes me feel very warm inside and fits very well with this song too. it would be really cool if you could react to the actual tv show with them someday, even if only on patreon. jung hwa's journey made me tear up a lot of times, and seeing hwasa's relationship with these icons who are all older than her, and seeing how clearly she appreciated being able to be with them was the best. thank you so much for this reaction!!

Great song, badass bitch anthem, heartwarming multi-generational collab, fun video ... lots to love about the Refund Sisters and everyone left great comments explaining the backstory. If you watch the behind the scenes vids about them getting together for this project I think you'll agree that the final scene of them laughing together wasn't scripted. The lyrics about crossing the line are reminiscent of IU's classic song Bbi Bbi, which is addressed to haters, internet bullies and anyone whose foul language and behavior crosses the line. Check it out if you haven't seen the MV already - I'm sure you'll like it. Very different style full of IU's wit and quirky sense of humor while still laying down the law and refusing to take sh*t from anyone.

My opinion still stands that jessi made this song. Her voice brings a certain ambiance that solidifies the tracks meaning. Hwasa vocals also fit nicely with jessi and thats a great match. Lee hyori strong yet shy voice coming through also works great with Um jung wa powerful vocald and her unapologetic attitude.

This project is incredible and I just wish that there was more than one song. Everything began with a show called Hangout With Yoo, with Yoo being Jimmy Yoo(he's so famous in reality/variety that he's actually in the Gangnam Style MV). On HWY Jimmy formed a group called SSAK3 with Lee Hyori and Rain and their concept is old school 1st & 2nd gen nostalgia. Each member did a collab song with a different artist and Rain's collab was with Mamamoo. Hyori is a huge fan of Hwasa and really wanted to work with her on something so she gathered Jessi and Uhm Jung Hwa to make it happen. There are 13 episodes of Hangout With Yoo dedicated to the Refund Sisters project if you're curious about their background. Some interesting trivia about Hwasa is that she filmed the MVs for Dingga and Don't Touch Me AND promoted both songs simultaneously. Jung Hwa is a pretty famous singer and if you've watched enough variety then you've probably heard her song Invitation, as it's one of the few sexy songs that most Koreans know by heart. 😂 For scientific purposes I would recommend viewing Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher's cover of Invitation.

I was going to explain that they are four legends of their own era (but everyone already did perfectly!). Uhm Jung Hwa and Lee Hyori were the badasses of their own generation as Jessi and Hwasa are doing with their own now, so this was the best collab to do for uniting generations

I know you're not taking requests, but I hope you get to check out the Refund Sister episodes of "Hang Out With Yu" (ep. 56 - ep. 68). Separately or eventually react. It's really fun to see them come together and their different personalities. They all have a bad girl image, but they're all really sweet people. They even joked that they're not the type to argue for a refund (or even send food back if they got the wrong order) lol.
