The child in the video is not Rod Stewarts kid but child actor Alex Zuckerman. He played in the movie Hook as Latchboy as well and a few other shows etc. The song was written with his kids Sean and Kimberly Stewart in mind who were 8 and 9 at the time of the writing because as Rod Stewart said in an interview "I realized I had missed a good 5 years of my kids life" due to touring and being on the road and so busy with his career.

Check out their cover of Howlin Wolfs song I Ain't Superstitious. A great blues rock version of that song. He also reunited with Jeff Beck later in the 80's doing a cover of Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready which is an amazing version. Rod also was with the rock group The Faces. I take the "traffic on the road" motif as representing people travelling down the road of their lives. Rod and his son are also travelling in their midst. According to Google What is the message of the song "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart? By growing and going through the hardships that we experience as young people, we are then in turn able to give back to our children and future generations in helping them to grow and become better people. This is the perfect song for any parent to dedicate to their children.

Remembers me of a scene where I was sitting at the kitchen table with the girlfriend of a friend and her stepbrother making fun of Alphaville (another composition "Forever Young" + "Big in Japan") and saying something about "Big in Japan" like "It might be a big hit in Japan, but I don't like the song" - later on the stepbrother revealed: He is the leadsinger of Alphaville and indeed sold a lot of albums throughout the years especially in Japan. For me Alphaville fell in the same category of pop like Rick Astley (being more a James Brown and Oldschool-HipHop-Fan it wasn't my cup of tea, but I respect those people as musicians - which try to make some money).
