10:55 Paddy McGuinness is Peters friend from school and growing up in Bolton. He is famous in his own right now after Peter put him in his TV shows

Sawdust was sawdust. A lollipop lady was a school crossing guard. The thick table was for stupid people and Paddy McGuinness has been in some of the same shows as Peter and was at school with him.

When he was on the floor talking about back your books, back when we were at school, to help preserve the book that would be handed in at the end of the year and used again for the next year, we had to back our books, this ment covering the cover of a book and paper, wall paper or magazine pictures, I'm pretty sure they don't do it now, but I don't know.

A lollipop lady or man is the school crossing guard :) so called because of the shape of the sign they use to stop traffic to make it safe to cross. Swanning in or swanning around is what you do when not being time efficient :) eg..stop swanning around it's time to go to grandma's Each county in england has their own dialect and even vocabulary for different things.

I went to my 10 year reunion just to see 3 people, they did not attend. When I was contacted for my 20 year (by the "head cheerleader") I asked her if she knew who I was. After several minutes of back and forth the answer was an obvious no. So I turned down the invitation rather rudely by reminding her that "I could not stand you people 20 years ago so I highly doubt that has changed". The sawdust was actually just that gathered from the school wood shop. Because back in the day schools offered both wood and metal shop as well as home economics (cooking, sewing and home making) so I don't know where the economics part came in.

The shatter proof ruler was because there was a craze where we would slap the ruler on the table and it would shatter, so a new rule for schools to have shatter proof ones. The "thick table" is what would now be called the 'special needs or special table'. Paddy McGuinness does comedy and TV, Peter helped him to get known (also good friends, I don't know if they really went to school together). "Let the ..... see the ....." (fill in the blanks with anything), is his catchphrase from a dating show he presented (Take Me Out). It is funny to watch it
@lexiburrows8127 Жыл бұрын
I remember when the new Shatter-Proof ruler first came in. ALL we kids bought this novelty - then spent all day dropping them, bending them and throwing them about to see if it was really true!
@gavingiant6900 Жыл бұрын
@@lexiburrows8127 I don't even think I was born when the ban came into place, but we were told about them in the early '90s. Ironically by our teacher in junior school, this backfired because we went hunting for them and tried it out in class. Obviously it was noticed and was getting to be a problem, after that it was an instant detention if you were caught with one.

Did anyone used to turn the ruler over on its front to the desktop and make the sound effect of an arrow being fired from a bow hitting the target like Robin Hood? 🤣

We just had my 40th (late after Covid). I went with lifelong friends after hearing that i had died. I had stopped social media a few years back; so logically, it must be death. I was shocked by how old people looked - like it was our 60th - and Botox was losing the battle. I have no Botox, no nip/tuck, no dye, and literally am the same exact size as I was in 1981. People assume I am around 50, but I thought I looked my age. Not anymore. My profile pic is from this year. The reunion made me realize it is weird being the same age as old people.

Lollipop lady - a woman who carries a lollipop staff which is used to stop the traffic usually in front of a school .... Before shatter proof rules came (they were very very flexible and hard to break), rules were a little brittle so they created sharp edges .... and before plastic rulers, they were wooden and could splinter. Maybe 'shatter proof' was a marketing name ?

Hilarious, the stuff that went over my head were English terms that us Americans won't know, no i have not been to any of my cass reunions because there was no one i wanted to see, class reunions are just for the popular people that all knew each other to get together to see how well each other are doing, sad but true, i was a loner, an out cast, a misfit, so there was need to go to a class reunion, i dropped out and followed my own path and marched to the beat of my own drum 🥁

I graduated in 1987. I didn't go to the 5-year reunion but went to the rest of them and had a great time. I was even invited to the class of "88" 25- and 30-year reunions and had a lot of fun at them as well. I wish I would have crashed the class of "86" reunions because I had a lot of friends in that class.

It is sawdust that is thrown down - it is also put on the road when there has been an accident. It absorbs liquid (and covers it) - for example blood, oil, petrol, diesel,. If I am driving and see what looks like sand or sawdust on the road I know that there must have been a recent accident.

Legend.. you missed some of the English-specific references, but it's still hilarious! And trust me as a Londoner even we struggle to understand some of the accents from up north or Scotland and Ireland if they're really broad and speaking fast. Also in Britain you often get regional sayings or slang that a specific to a certain region.. you did well understand as much as you did(you'd probably have to watch it again with subtitles). Btw when he said about covering the school books with 'Razzle' that was an "Adult" magazine in England in the 80s.. 😂 Great reaction video.. 🏴🇬🇧

I can tell anecdotes to this day of things that were said by my friends at school and they make grown people laugh. A joke now by youngsters is shoving a phone in someone's face with a tik tok video and saying look huhu. The smart funny kids are the quiet ones.

I will start by saying that this simply stunning young lady really "Gets Into" these videos, and finds them REALLY funny. BUT she has the annoying habit of talking all through the video, and not only pausing and trying to fathom out what has just happened or missing some of the jokes and asides but spoiling it for those of us who want to listen to PETER KAY. I think that when she was an infant she must have been vaccinated with a gramophone needle. Such a shame because she really is a stunner, but she makes it hard work to watch her when she breaks off to dissect each small section of of speech on the video, and in doing so makes it very hard to get any continuity. If she was not so beautiful I would skip her videos.
