There actually is a very specific reason suspects are offered food and drink when being interrogated. In the past, confessions have been thrown out because the suspect stated they were under duress due to them fact that they were locked in a room without food or water. This is the reason Dylan Roof was given burger king at his interrogation. It was a major crime that he seemed likely to confess to. They didnt want to take any chances so they offered him burger king which happened to be next door to the station.

What blows my mind is they do a cold blooded murder in broad daylight, and they got priors convictions, and they on average only get 8 years in prison... for 1st degree murder! 8 years.. so they do 5 n get out, for cold blooded murder. WTF? In my days coming up a murder sentence was a life sentence! Its unbelievable how little time they get for murders on that show.
