Where do I start with Shoshana? One of the best voices to come to musical theater and there have been many great ones. She starred as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway from Jan 2005-Jan 2006, on Broadway as Jenna in the musical Waitress for 4 months and most recently as Susan Young in the play Mr. Saturday Night on Broadway from Mar-Sep 2022. She was nominated for best actress in this role. Britt, she’s a tremendous talent and Make It Rain is typical of her vocal abilities. As an actress, she can emote, and as you say, reach down deep and connect her feelings to what she is singing in order to make you feel it. Her work in Wicked was unbelievable and o had the good fortune to see her perform in that show. Glad you enjoyed. 🙏😀

I stand up every time I hear this rendition. How the audience wasn't on their feet during this entire performance... I'll never know.

She is amazing! I wish more people knew about her. You've gotta check out her performance of "She Use To Be Mine" if you haven't yet

i second this. it's a whole different shoshana in a way, definitely showcasing her (more commonly heard) broadway stylized singing, considering the song, haha...but it's still just as emotionally riveting, & the contrast between the energy here & in that song are an excellent showcasing of the various ways shoshana can emote the heck outta a song.

Thanks for bringing this artist to my attention, BR! The level of grit and emotion she shows in this performance made me think that she was tapping into all the pain and sorrow ever felt since time began. I hope she rested afterwards. (If I even tried to sing like that, I'd probably need a month of silence to get my voice back.)

Shoshana’s a total bad ass too. Back in ‘05, she fell through a trap door and cracked a rib at a performance and then came right out and performed a few minutes later!

That was Idina Menzel. She was about ready to end her run as Elphaba a few days after that happened anyway, so Shoshana took over the role early as the second original Elphaba.

You should check out her song, All to me, that she had Scott Hoying from Pentatonix sang with her for the official video. And then check out her other videos including one with Amber Riley and another with Superfruit which is Scott and Mitch from Pentatonix. It’s a silly video, but also the vocals are amazing. I am obsessed with her and only know about her because of Pentatonix, but she is one of the most astounding singers I have ever heard.

People who don’t pay attention to Broadway, who have some distorted view of what it is and the talent that is in performance there have no idea what they are missing. Shoshana Bean leads the charge but there are many, many more who would blow you away as well.

fully agree with you ,,, first thing I realized was how come those people are not on their feet I mean they are experiencing a miracle unfolding right in front of their eyes its like they don't understand the blessing it was to have been there and witness that performance it was indeed a heavenly experience....I saw Jesus by watching and cant get enough of this breathtaking performance.....I honestly feel that todays singers can really learn something from this.

The reason they weren't on their feet earlier is that Shoshana is a Broadway performer, and applause is reserved for the end of the performance (it's considered rude to interrupt mid-performance in most cases). Granted, this wasn't on Broadway, but the audience is likely in that mindset because of who she is.
@SilviaLopez-eg9wh10 ай бұрын
I know Shoshana from Broadway and I guess I am the theatre kind of audience, but I recently went to her show at the Apollo, and people clapped and hollered and stood up several times mid song because you couldn't not react to what she was doing. I totally get what you are saying and I've seen it in a lot of Broadway singers' concerts (and it's likely the case here), but Shoshana just brings you to church every time, it's reaaally hard to contain yourself. Or maybe the Apollo has a different audience, just because of its history, and people were leaning into it, idk. But Sho is pure magic live.

you'll see suggestions for "she used to be mine", which is a great one, although the energy is entirely different, but just as superbly delivered. after that, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GOOD, react to her & avery wilson singing together. they both are buttery goodness, & they work flawlessly with one another. shoshana's original, "all to me", live with avery, or their cover of "saving all my love for you" on her official channel, which just hurts my soul it's so juicy & good. here's a link to that cause you'll need it, i promise: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2jGop93mZWfbrM

Shoshana is a great example of how many amazingly talented singers there are in the Broadway community that the larger community has never heard of by name or by voice. Broadway oozes tremendous talent, but because of the type of music that they sing, the general public, who are not theater goers or theater lovers, never get to experience what these artists have to offer. A few crossover into mainstream, but not enough for them to get the respect that they deserve. Cynthia Erivo is another example of a voice that’s incomparable who got her start in theater and is now getting her due with the wider public. Ben Platt is also getting more recognition because of his many TV appearances and the movie Dear Evan Hansen. Broadway and Broadway performers definitely do not get the respect that they so richly deserve.

Britt I have been enjoying your content but please, please, please stop pausing in the middle of a musical phrase or run. Just hold on for a few seconds longer till the end of the sentence and then pause and your reactions will level up,
@KanTexCali Жыл бұрын
I agree and have suggested that to her on another of her reactions before. It would improve the quality of so many other reactors to do the same also, thereby increasing the enjoyment of the viewers ... which would in turn increase the number of views and Subscriptions. As you said, we don't mind the interruptions or comments because it's a reaction, but it makes a difference on where the interruptions and pauses are made. I have actually avoided clicking on some of hers and other's reactions that I would have liked to have watched, but because I know the style of their reactions, I know it will frustrate me to watch them with interruptions in the middle of a singing phrase or passage. ☮️
