Stan has just dropped a new song and the official video called "I Am" for the Ava DuVernay film "Origin". It's amazing! Been listening to it on repeat all day. Seems he's heading over the US to perform this with the opening of the film. Regarding how long he's been around he posted recently how long since he was in Australian Idol - 14 years...

Hi bro, Loved your reaction. Stan has been going Hard since 2009 as a teenager winning Aus Idol. His first year after he did a cover of Prince's Purple Rain produced as part of his prize from the competition. Except for at time when he underwent surgery for stomach cancer he has been a prolific producer of inspiring music. Love his professional focus of being the Best he can be

YOu are listening to Maori language sung by his back up band The Stndrd. The female vocalist is the lady back-up singer and the second male voice singer is the guy with the blond hair in the singing trio. NOW - go listen to I AM - Stan's latest new song he co-wrote - rumous has it he is up for a nomination best original song for the new movie ORIGIN. STAN WALKER won Austealian Idol in 2016. NZ Maori we are so so proud of him.

Stan is commenting on growing up in New Zealand and Australia. Maori face this everyday. Sadly the majority of Pakeha (NZ born European decent) in NZ cannot honestly say they have Maori friends. When Stan wins Pakeha will Cush and own him, praise Maori etc. Stan is a humble truth teller.

BMG Australia record company told Stan to be less Maori (indigenous Aotearoa, NZ) if he wanted to be famous outside Australia, where he won the contract. Stan chose not to re-sign choosing integrity over fame. He's done very well so far without them. His latest song that he wrote for a movie Origins, "I AM" is full on Maori.
@CVTECK18 ай бұрын
It's so stupid why record company would even say that. His voice is amazing and nothing wrong with representing your culture at the same time. If music is good then people will love it
@AilsaPehi8 ай бұрын
@CVTECK1 The stink of British colonialism in Australia hasnt rubbed off yet and has issues with indigenous representation. The American market doesn't. Exposure takes time on social media. I bet the record company is kicking themselves now.

If only our own Country, Government and pākehā (NZ Europeans) would acknowledge and love our language and culture like the rest of the world does. Theyre banning our Māori language EVERYWHERE here in New Zealand!

The Government in NZ is not banning the use of Te Reo.That is completely untrue! Putting English first before Maori,because the huge majority of the population speak it, as opposed to a much smaller number who are fluent in Te Reo,is not banning it's use!
@emdee_6798 ай бұрын
@@jackiedavy2750For you to comment this under a song that is about reconnection, reconciliation of culture/identity for tangata whenua of Aotearoa (first nations people of settler colony New Zealand) is disappointing to say the least. You know damn well that the use of Te Reo will be retracted once our new government steps in coz they’ve made no fuss about hiding that. Why should Indigenous people of the Pacific and yes, Māori are Indigenous to the Pacific (because most racist colonisers stay trying to erase that fact) have to give up their language when they’ve been stripped of their entire identity from colonial oppression since colonisers stepped onto their whenua (land)? Riddle me this?🤔

Love how you want to learn about our Maori culture. You say the word Maori like (mouldy) and the hand movement he is using is called a wiri. Its most used during dance performance and can represent many things such as water movement, the wind etc. Hope that gives you a bit of knowledge about our culture. Such a very powerful song 😊
