According to Google: Sting's song "Desert Rose" from his 1999 album Brand New Day has a North African feel that's influenced by the Algerian folk music style known as Raï. Raï is a type of African folk-blues that may have originated in the early 20th century. Sting collaborated with Algerian songwriter Cheb Rabah (Rabah Zarradine) and Algerian raï singer Cheb Mami on the song, which Sting wrote in Paris after discovering the Raï music scene there. Mami's music blends Mediterranean and Western influences, including Turkish, Flamenco, Greek, and Latin music, and his voice has Andalusian accents. Glad you enjoyed it! One of my favorite Sting songs. :)

I highly suggest doing the studio version. You should hear it even if you don't react to it in a video (although I wouldn't hate that, lol). The mix takes these two great voices into angelic. It's quite spectacular. This was wonderful... the studio version is masterful.
