The concept of this song is Stockholm Syndrome. Basically, Taemin is both the criminal and the victim at the same time - two different egos in his mind. The one (criminal) is trying to keep the status quo. The newly emerging ego wants to evolve into a more improved version of Taemin; seeking the perfect idea of Taemin. However, breaking out into the unknown is frightening, so this new ego has a love/hate relationship with the comfortable yet torturing existing ego. That's it in a very abbreviated way. His title song, "IDEA" finishes the story with the concept of Plato's Theory of Forms with a climatic battle between the two egos in Taemin's mind. The new ego kills the old and Taemin is resurrected/reborn in his elevated form, yet realizes he can't achieve perfection on his own; a higher power must also be involved (Theory of Forms). You need to understand that Taemin is very intellectual and DEEP. He creates his own concepts and nitpicks the little details....lol. So, let me introduce you to the legendary and iconic Taemin (TAE = great/exalted; MIN = people/citizen), King of dance, angelic vocalist, and most kind and humble being in Kpop...lol. He, as well as SHINee (his main group), is revered and greatly respected by the Kpop industry. This is a guy who taught himself how to dance beginning at the age of 10, auditioned for SM Entertainment at the age of 12, was immediately snatched up by SM, and debuted at 14 (international age) as the main dancer for the, also legendary, 2nd gen. Kpop group SHINee. He could dance but not sing, as his vocal cords were still immature. In fact, SM management told him he didn't have a voice for singing. So, Taemin set out to prove them wrong. He sacrificed his friends, time off, holidays, sleep to the point of getting nosebleeds every day, and falling asleep during practices -- everything and anything -- to learn how to sing. His eldest members Onew & Jonghyun (best Kpop vocalist ever) helped him and within a few years, Taemin was covering Jonghyun's parts in SHINee songs. Not only that, but he became the first-ever soloist from an active boy group from SM to go solo. That's right, after telling him he didn't have a voice for singing, they chose Taemin (the youngest member) to be their first male soloist. And in 2014, at the tender age of 20/21, he debuted with the hit song, "Danger". That's Taemin, the epitome of hard work and perseverance. Now, with 12 years of experience under his belt at only 27, the only Kpop idol to debut 4 times in 3 different generations, and also a part of Super M, it's no wonder that the former CEO of SM, Lee Soo Man (now an executive producer), calls Taemin SM's "ACE". This is why he is so respected in Kpop. There is an extensive discography of his songs that cover just about every genre, as Taemin slides effortlessly through anything and even has created his own genre affectionately called Tpop (Taemin Pop)...lol. He pushes the boundaries of Kpop to the brink and is the most innovative idol out there with out-of-the-box concepts such as Stockholm syndrome ("Criminal") and Plato's philosophical Theory of Forms ("IDEA"). Who, but Taemin, would dance and sing bound in straps, or on a 45-degree angled wall? No one. No one has ever been able to cover one of Taemin's dances to the same level of perfection. Wow -- apply to SM to be the official biographer of Lee Taemin. This was great. But especially in your recognition that the late great Kim Jonghyun is the greatest vocalist in K Pop. He is so missed. One of the top executives at SM was asked in their roster of gorgeous idols who is the most beautiful/handsome. He did not hestitate: ¨Taemin. He is always smiling.¨ Taemin has a beautiful soul that radiates through even the slightest move he makes -- he is an artist down to his finger tips, literally, and a down to earth guy. Humble? Yes, in that he does not fake humility: he knows what he has achieved and that he is great -- but he does not for an instant think that makes him a better human being than anyone else. He is a reals sweetheart. I saw him in person and he is so much more beautiful in real life -- but what really comes through is his depth, his spirituality and his desire to connect. Taemin is the real deal! PS: I am such an idiot -- can you tell me how I can watch his videos slower??? Taemin is actually his name haha. (Full name is Lee Taemin) He's 27 years old this year, and 1/5 of 2nd gen kpop band SHINee so technically he spent half of his life perfecting his craft :D He is known to many as probably the best dancer in the industry! He's been building up his solo career for 6 years now and he's an inspiration to many newer idols. He's known as the MJ of Kpop because his style is heavily inspired by MJ and some say Prince :) He's en entirely different genre on his own so do react more to his other solo MVs such as Want, Move, Famous, and his recent single Idea. Thanks for reacting to Taemin! He is a King, seriously, just a genuine artist in every respect. He's been active in the industry for over 12 years now, and is only 27 so there is much more to come from him. He is widely considered to be the best dancer in Kpop by many people including myself, and his music is just stellar, no skips on every album IMO. Hopefully you'll watch his 2020 KBS Song Festival performance of Idea too! It came after Criminal in the festival and is a shortened version of his latest single Idea, so I would recommend you watch the MV first for that song before seeing the live performance (hopefully react to both in the same video maybe? 🙏😆). Also give his group SHINee a chance, I'd recommend starting with "Excuse Me Miss" live performance if you love R&B, or their debut song "Replay". You can also check out the group SuperM, which Taemin also is a member of; they have some incredible music in a different style from SHINee or Taemin's solo work. Basically you can't go wrong with any project Taemin is a part of, it feels like everything he touches turns into pure musical gold. 😂 Thanks again!

The lyrics of this song is very deep yet beautiful and well written.. I would suggest that you watch the Criminal MV and turn on the Eng sub button, the production was really awesome. Taemin himself conceptualized his music MV with the help of his Director. You can watch IDEA MV as well because it's the Act 2 of Criminal. I’m sure everyone has their views so here’s mine; I’m always on the end of my seat speechless every time he releases new content he never fails to impress and who dares to seduce & hurt our boy? Because i’m coming for you 😡😅 and OMG there was so many representations that remind me so much of his previous music videos “Danger”, “DOOR”, “Sayonara Hitori”, “Thirsty”, “MOVE”, Press Your Number”, “WANT” and “Famous” etc I have no clue where to start. Everything up to this point is 100% proof that TAEMIN is South Korea’s Famous Smooth Criminal; the korean michael jackson of generations who is a global vocal and dance legend because FACTS, there maybe many titled ‘Kings of Kpop’ but Taemin is the ARTIST OF SLL ARTISTS that debuted after him. You guys stumbled upon a legend. He is the inspiration to so many current Kpop idols. He's been performing since 2008 with Shinee at the tender age of 14, so he is a senior artist even though he's only 27. He is also a part of the supergroup coproduced by SM Entertainment and Capitol Records in LA, SuperM with members of EXO and NCT, the best of the best groups under SM. Taemin is his name, lol. Lee Taemin. He's inspired by MJ and is called Korea's MJ. He is also widely known as the BEST dancer in Kpop alongside Kai from EXO, his childhood friend and bff. The pair are in SuperM together too and are just ... kings. Shinee is coming back this year, yay! after the members all got out of the military in 2020. Shinee is one to watch. You guys have to see the second part of this with “ Idea” : The song “ Criminal” is basically about a person being immersed in a relationship that they know isn’t good for them; they hate and love it at the same time ( Stockholm Syndrome) “ Idea” is about being in a relationship that suffocates you; you love the person to the point of being blinded by everything about them:that person is your “ everything” ... until finally you open your eyes to who they really are... the term “ IDEA” in Korean is not the same per se as the “ American” definition... it’s more like “ an awakening” ... This song is #2 of a trilogy: it begins with 2Kids, move into Criminal and ends with IDEA. The videos are seamless is that the final pose of each video mimicked the one prior. Actually Taemin is Part of a Band name Shinee who're one of the oldest groupe who've done a lot for the Kpop industry, they're known as the "Prince of Kpop" , They've touch Multiple Style of Music & Their concert are like no other, they're one of the groupe who have bring real stage performance in their concert etc ....
