If you want to hear really insightful and in-depth lyrics, I’d suggest doing his Pope song

Funny songs, serious songs, poetry, stand-up, acting(tv, film and stage) in the last twenty years I have yet to find anything by Tim that isn't amazing

Everything this man touches is gold, the Broadway musicals, his hit TV show Upright which he both stars on and co writes, the comedy, the heartbreaking songs, the poetry. I haven't witnessed one bad thing that Tim's name has been associated with, he even donates large portions of his salary to local charities when he's on tour. Great guy and a hell of an artist.

One of the great things about Minchin's performance... the way he plays with that glass of wine, they way he starts to lift it but then goes back into verse is so perfect...

And even though he doesn't actually drink, his voice begins to slur more each missed sip as he becomes 'drunk' at his dinner party. It's so well done.

He also has a song called the "Three Minute Song" that always lasts 3 minutes and zero seconds whenever he performs it. He puts a digital timer up and everything.

His rhythmic meter in this and the whole lyrical scheme is absolutely amazing. Love or hate the content of it, the masterful way it was written and performed is pretty damned impressive imo.

Beat poetry has been around since the 1950s very common around the Jazz scene. Minchin is a stellar musician as well as a lyricist. Nice catch about the music .

What a brilliant reaction you’re really tuned in to the nuances of Tim’s genius. One of the advantages of our Aussie accent is we can make “favour” rhyme with Australia because we drop our “r” at the end of words 😂

This is the kind of poetry found in cities in the 1950s. This is the type of word that caused the Beatles to drop their black leather jackets and slicked back hair for the mod classics jacket or turtleneck and French hair cut. True Jack Kerouac style beat poetry.

And the timing. The backing music is pre-recorded, and he matches it exactly in every performance. That just stuns me. I have no idea how anyone can do that time after time (excuse the pun).

Tim Minchin is a brilliant musician, comedian and author. He's managed to combine comedy and music together in a way that not only makes you listen, but keep you wanting more. Bill Bailey and Bo Burnham do the same, but on a different level with their music and comedy. Whereas Minchin plays around with different forms of music as well (beat poetry, rock songs, ballads, pop songs), all while tackling everything from religion to prejudice to environmental issues.

Tim is brilliant, played Judus on a Jesus Christ Superstar tour, written a stage musical for the kids book Matilda. Plus great comedian have been watching Tim for nearly 20 years, introduced by my son and daughter who first saw him at a small gig in Maidstone Kent at the beginning of his career and could buy dvds after the show.

I've recited this poem a few times, and I think what really helps get it over, is even if you disagree with it, you can admire the lyrical skills and sentimental points towards the end, and can always interpret it as a slightly shitty arrogant dude getting steadily more drunk and angry and ruining a dinner party. Or, if you're me, and do you agree with the points raised, you can interpret it as a slightly shitty arrogant dude spitting facts, whilst getting steadily more drunk and angry and ruining a dinner party.

Personally, one of my favorite songs by Tim Minchin is You Grew on Me. I also really love Thank you God. Also, The Pope Song is great, but even though it's a happy song, it's got a lot of complicated words, so be careful with that one. But they're all amazingly great songs.

I do reactions to reactions. :) Why "mugetsu" over the video? A good part of this is his performance. OK, I'm not watching for him; I'm watching for you. Obscuring him is a valid choice. You mentioned the music but you didn't mention him. The almost-sips from the wine; the looks at the wife; the whole thing is a master-class performance. And yeah, it's only lightly comedy. All of his comedy I've seen has had the flavor of thought; this is thought with the flavor of comedy. I'll be looking at more of your videos. :) Also, I'd be interested in a reaction to this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fobKqIBngN5laJo

Youve had some great Tim Minchin recommendations which are all great but i would love to see a reaction to something a little more obscure. Tim did a song for a movie soundtrack a few years ago (he also stars in the movie). The movie is Two Fists One Heart and rhe song is Drowned, its such a beautiful song and doesnt get any credit.
