This song was released in 1990 - like 33 years ago. And it still stands the test of time. It's THAT iconic by the legendary Bonnie Raitt!

She is still touring and making records. She's been around since the early 70's. She's rated like the best slide guitar player in America. Her voice is gorgeous. On this track and live, the piano is being played by Bruce;Hornsby.

One of the saddest most heart wrenching songs I’ve ever heard. I cry every time. (Bruce Hornsby on the piano 👌🏼👌🏼)

Late comment here. Bruce Hornsby lets the piano dance around her voice. They never collide, just whisper to each other. Beautiful.

People don't realize how successful Bonnie was with her first two albums. I was in college in the early 70s, and EVERY party I went to , Bonnie was always in the rotation. Esp. when women controlled the turntable. She got into a fight with her record company and disappeared for 5 years. Thank God she hung in there.

This is an amazingly heartfelt, emotional, melancholy song. It grabs you within the first few piano notes. Then the vocals start…..game over.

It's the rare individual who can listen to this and not weep........and I have heard it hundreds of time and seen Bonnie live 6 times. She is a killer slide guitar player and no she is not country. This is a beautiful version but I highly recommend you listen to the rendition from Road Tested .....it's Bonnie with Bruce Hornsby on piano......she will rip your heart from your chest with the phrasing and a note that she sustains.......well you have to hear it.........

She just won another 3 Grammys last year plus I think the year before this song was recorded in 1991 she won 7 or 8 Grammys that year with her album "The Nick Of Time", might have set a record.

I don't know how old you are or how many of the famous blues guys that you know. But Bonnie Raitt started in her late teens early 20s singing Blues. Fantastic blues guitarist and she does a lot of old songs that were famous in the 20th and 30s you really need to extend your library of listening to Bonnie ray she's my favorite. Been listening to her music since 1970 and she did win a grammy in 2023. She still got it

The song was written by country songwriters Mike Reid and Allen Shamblin. Reid was previously an American football player before turning to music. It was recorded by Bonnie Raitt on her 11th album Luck of the Draw in 1991.

One of the most interesting things about this song is the songwriter Mike Reid. Reid was a standout defensive lineman for Penn State's football team, won multiple awards, finished 5th in the Heisman Trophy voting, and was named an All-American twice, which led to him being a top 10 pick in the NFL draft, defensive rookie of the year, and multiple time All-Pro player. He walked away after five years due to hand and knee injuries so he would still be able to pursue his career in music. Likely the only person who will ever be inducted in both the College Football and Songwriter's Halls of Fame.

Hello Dereck, those simple words in the Lyrics, make me think about how painful it is,when you love someone, who doesn't love you,or doesn't love you anymore. And when i see you try to keep your composure,i cry too.Me couldn't do the kind of Job,you do in front of the camera.Bette Midler would be a very good choice for this Song.I love this Song.Thank you Dereck for your Reaction. You are Strong!💝💝💝💝💝🐬🐬

Maybe the wisest words you gave us: Bonnie is an angel disguised as a human being. There's no way to hear this song and not feel deep and heartbreaking things; Bonnie is also a healer - this song made me face some harsh facts about love that I was not ready to face. The power of the simple painful truth.

Every time I hear this I remember what my ex husband told the selfish, 28 yr old me that wanted a divorce 3:48 He said,” You can find somebody smarter or better looking than me but you’ll never find somebody who loves you more than I do.” He was right as I got older, I realized how badly I’d hurt this loving human being. 🥲
