You might not be aware of this but plenty of Singaporean singers, the really good ones at least, end up becoming superstars in other countries especially since the Singaporean market and industry is really small. Ramli Sarip, whom you’ve reacted to in a duet with Jamal Abdillah, is another great example (least year, he sang one of the best renditions of Singapore’s national anthem imo during our Independence Day celebrations). Other regionally renowned names with Singaporean roots are Anita Sarawak, Saloma, Hady Mirza of course, rapper Alif from the rnb duo Sleeq (the other member, Syarif, used to be in the same school as me in Singapore), and M. Nasir. Other artistes like JJ Lin, Stephanie Sun, and Tanya Chua are big names in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Recently, younger singers like Nathan Hartono, Aisyah Aziz, and Joanna Dong have also done us proud in singing competitions in China and Malaysia.
