The live version from the 1992 Earth Voice Concert in Japan kills even this incredible version. I requested the live version from you maybe 2 years ago. I'm glad you caught up to her, but in the live version you get to see her give, not only a master class in singing, but in performance. She is IMO, along with Martha Wash and perhaps Jocelyn Brown, the most underrated singer of her generation. Lisa is, IMO. on par with Whitney or Mariah in vocal talent. Lisa is still alive and performing in and around her and my native Brooklyn, she is still hitting that F6, and she is still as beautiful as ever. Michael Narada Walden also produced the beautiful and innocent "Let Me Be Your Angel" by Staci Lattislaw and other hits.

Agreed. And some more info……. She was singing background for Luther Vandross on his 1991 tour with opening act En Vogue. Luther and En Vogue clashed severely about many things and he kicked them off the tour and she became the opening act since her debut album had just been released. Lee Ritenour came to one of the shows and was blown away by her and invited her to sing at the EarthVoice 92 concert in Japan after Whitney Houston dropped out. And the rest is history😊

@@justinviney8474 Good point and well said. Luther though clashed with other opening acts such as Anita Baker who he openly laughed at saying she couldn't sing. He also directly compared Lisa to Anita when asked why he thought Anita was a terrible singer.

Fisher was a popular background singer for years (Stones and Vandross). After she went solo for this, she backed off b/c she was more comfortable being away from the spotlight. We never experienced the full career potential of this amazing solo voice. One of the most hidden gems in music history. However, she is at peace with that.

This song is orgasmic and I heard this at the start of the pandemic lockdown. I fell off my chair when I heard the bridge of this song and I never heard a voice like this. I agree that her live performance of this song in Tokyo is AMAZING! It is arguably better than the original. However, until Dereck listens to the original, how can he compare? That's just my personal belief and preference. I like to listen to the studio/original version before I listen to live performances or cover versions. Dereck, if you read this and want to react to the live version of this song, I would highly recommend it. Maybe another Patron can officially recommend it.

By the way, although Lisa had her hit with this in 1991, she is 11 years older than Mariah. So when Mariah had her first hit Lisa had already been doing her whistle notes for 11 years. Lisa's first hit was the dance classic "On The Upside" which she did under the name Xena in 1983.

Sadly you ruined this song by your commenting through it, you missed the whole feeling, and the build up to that whistle tone. One of the biggest problems that i have with reaction videos is that you’re all so silly trying to be so surprised and shocked, but take away the joy of the song by pausing it at the wrong time robbing you of the shear excitement of the song. Why don’t you start it over and listen to the entire song, then comment after it’s done. Your reaction was blah at that point. Reading the lyrics i mean dude if you were gonna do that you should have read them while she was singing then you would have a better idea of what she meant, instead of guessing without hearing the words sang. What a beautiful song it could have been for you, but you robbed yourself of knowing that. What a shame.
