+At the place I worked as a cook at had the lead singer Colin played a show there and kept the staff after close to drink and talk. I was unlucky enough to he become disabled a week or 2 before so I didn't get to meet him. all my coworkers loved him for being so down to earth and nice.

This comes from a more innocent time in music. Multitrack recording was pretty new, big data was not yet a thing. People made music either for their group or genre or for everyone. Not just women or kids or men. Marketing was FAR more hit or miss.

I was in the 5th grade when this song came out. I was in band playing the flute. Or learning I should say. I tried to learn how to play this song.But miserably failed. It sounded exactly like the song to me😂 I used to point at My little sister we're young. Singing It's A Mistake. When we used to make fun of each other.

Such a fun song! Men At Work are an Australian rock band formed in1978. Their biggest hits were "Who Can It Be Now?" & "Down Under". They had some other songs such as "It's A Mistake", "Be Good Johnny", "Overkill", "Dr. Heckyll & Mr. Jive", "Everything I Need", "Maria", "The Longest Night" etc. Men At Work performed "Down Under" at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, alongside Paul Hogan of "Crocodile" Dundee.

It was more on the pop side but not like mainstream pop, it's hard to describe. It was like early 80s alternative MTV pop, but worldbeat was just exploding and it has a lot of that, kind of a mix of reggae and ska and other things, and the flute makes it sound like aboriginal Australian perhaps or something like that. It's just loaded with references to Australia and how you recognize other Australians around the world, but it's done in such a fun, unassuming way that people loved it. It sounded new at the time. I would also say the audio quality on this particular upload of it isn't that great. The song definitely had some nice low end to it, and it sounded fantastic on a huge club system or even a really good stereo system.

Colin Hay is one of my favourite vocalists. Check out Overkill. Yeah these blokes were big but only made 4 albums. Colin Hay has a long solo career and is still performing. The band members were sacked because they wanted to sack his manager/friend. Hay wasn't having that. Men at Work play rock/reggae like The Police, although not so much with this song.

You constantly react to male bands or singers. You rarely react to women. To react to a two-hit wonder group and yet not have reacted to female superstars is dismissive and disappointing. However, I've learned that male reactors, almost to a man, react to 90% male artists. I mean Men At Work deserve a reaction but Adele isn't worth your time?
