Pat is what every singer wants to be. Talented, skilled, driven and successful. She got to meet Dick Clark before she was famous while working as waitress. They talked about it when she appeared on American Band Stand which he was the producer and host of. Pat is also around 5'2" tall but you would never know it by her stage presence. She's a giant on that stage and all rock singers are in her shadow.

Neil Giraldo was the first guitarist to ever appear on MTV and "You Better Run" was the second video to ever appear on MTV. This video gave Judge Reinhold and Bill Paxton their first acting jobs. Love the guitar solo in this. Sounds like Neil has to force it our of the guitar. I saw Pat and Neil live about 6 years ago. Was so good. Neil Giraldo was one of the most influential producers of the 80s. Everyone began copying his studio work. They had some really good albums in the 90s that most people don't dig into which is a bit sad. Love the way you broke this track down.

Your wish has been granted! Both Pat Benatar and the Lead Guitarist and Husband Neil Giraldo have finally been inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame* in 2022! Pat refused the nomination at first because Her Husband Neil was not nominated along with Her, which to Pat was totally unacceptable! And with good reason: along with being Lead Guitarist, Neil is responsible for Writing and Composing all of Their Songs as well! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame* finally corrected Their Mistake and added Neil's Name along with Pat, and only then did Pat finally accept Their offer to be inducted as the Rock and Roll Legends that They Both rightfully deserve to be!

Did you notice the name of her plane "Midnight Angel"? "Shadow Of The Night" is the opening track on her 1982 album "Get Nervous". Pat Benatar had a hard time with her record label Chrysalis Records".

Finally in 2022 she goes into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. No one can match her with her 3 and a half full octave voice range and singing style.

It's so cool you reacted to Pat Benatar and what is easily one of her all-time best songs. Love Is a Battlefield and We Belong are obvious choices not only because they are Pat Benatar's biggest hits but also they are great songs themselves but you can also react to Promises in the Dark (easily one of her best vocal performances ever), Heartbreaker, Hit Me with Your Best Shot, Fire and Ice, Invincible, Sex as a Weapon, Anxiety (Get Nervous), All Fired Up, Don't Walk Away (which is quite underrated but it's one of her most beautiful songs), etc. Neil Giraldo, her guitar player, collaborator and producer is also Pat's husband. It's one of the most stable marriages in the entertainment business. Back in February they celebrated 39 years of marriage!!!

Derek, Shadows of the Night is the fist song on the album. So it open with that hit of her voice. There isn't much difference between what you're hearing and her live. I saw her in the 80 when I was 16yo. She played arenas for decades, but did semi retirement having her family etc. They still make music and tour. She was just snubbed again for the R&R Hall of Fame. Her fans are pissed.
@nopenotgonna1753 жыл бұрын
It is the first track on Get Nervous. Literally blew me away the first time I heard it on the relic that is terrestrial FM radio. The demo had a instrumental intro. The acapella vocal intro was Neil’s idea. Worked out beautifully. ❤️ DL Byron sued her for changing the lyrics. She was not the first to get this song. Helen Schnieider and Rachel Sweet got it first. Check out those versions for context but Benatar’s version is by far the best!

I'd rather listen to the studio track because the MTV story is distracting, like your mind has to divide focus between sound and imagery. And you spot a celebrity or see something interesting, and then the tune takes back burner. But that's just my own peeve. Plus, this particular song has such a great and dramatic start on the album cut because of that a cappella intro. It's just her voice, and it's a super beginning. It's not so "big" in the music video.
@craighenry23512 жыл бұрын
Sadly, this is the last Pat Benatar song that I liked, because she became too pop oriented after this. You can hear a much more pop sound even in this song. As far as vocals go, the quality Pat’s voice has never been in question, as she originally sang opera. This helps with the high harmonies she writes into many of her songs. But you latched on to the difference between Pat and many other female singers. Despite her opera background, Pat was able to illicit a heavier sound to her voice. Then add to her voice, the brilliant and underrated guitar work of her husband, Neil Geraldo, and it completes the awesome sound of her band.

OK, let’s settle one think right away. Pat is the best female rocker of alltime, but after this album (Het Nervous), everything Pat did was pop garbage. Her best songs are included in this list, Heartbreaker, Don’t let it show, You Better Run, Hit Me with your Best Shot, Treat me Right, Wuthering Heights, Hell is for Children, Promises in the Dark, Fire and Ice, Hard to Believe, Precious Time and The Victim. Nothing Else She did even belongs on that list.
