PRINCE was and is still a musical genius. He played any instrument, danced, and entertained us, but most of all, he was so shy in life. It's been said by many that Prince's halftime Super Bowl performance has never been matched. After his death many many unsung songs were found in his vault. A National Treasure truly he was! 🎉😢❤

You read background notes but somehow missed the fact that Purple Rain won an Oscar for Best Original Song Score in 1985, and posthumously won Top Soundtrack at the American Music Awards in 2016. If you want to appreciate the genius of Prince start from the beginning with his very first Album , and go down the rabbit hole from thereon. Listen to the studio albums, but treat yourself to his live performances as well. l attended most all of Prince's concerts which usually turned out to be two for the price of one because after the concert one paid for was over, true Prince fans knew if they stayed in their seats after the house lights came on, that Prince was gonna come out and try out new music on his remaining audience. Prince was unique when it came to concert performance. He just gave his all+ , and even though there are some other artists that put on phenomenal concerts I think Prince's were the best I've ever seen. His vocals were supreme. His sense of humor was legendary. He also wrote hits for other top artists including Chaka Khan, who also had a hit with a song from one of his early albums, the Bangles, Stevie Nicks, Sheila E. and others as well as producing them, contributing vocals or playing instruments on some of them. All I can say is that Prince was one of a rare breed who lived and breathed music, and loved playing with other artists he had admiration for.

I grew up with this music and Prince was one of our major influences... he was everwhere - hit after hit after hit. We went transitioned from 1999 to the year 2000 with him, we were pulled through every emotion with his movie Purple Rain and this is one of my favorite songs.. if you havent seen him live, you have to... he is insane live. The best SuperBowl halftime show I ever saw was him.... it rained and he did a set in the rain and ended with Purple Rain... it is amazing. we lost one of the best musical influences and talents with the passing of Prince...

I was never sure why so many people had to choose Prince or MJ - they are SO different! Yes, they each kinda threw shade at the other, but when Michael died, Prince was devastated. Both were geniuses in their own right. I think Prince's musical virtuosity was overlooked by many because a lot of the songs played on the radio didn't show that off. This dude is in my top 3 guitarist of all time right next to Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. His image is iconic and as a person, he was so intelligent and interesting.

Touring audio engineer here. That effect you are asking about with the repeating sounds, it’s not reverb, it’s DELAY. You can adjust many different setting of the effect but what you are hearing is what’s referred to in the effect setting as “Feedback”. This dictates the number of “repeats” you hear before the sound trails off. Delay is used for man6 things. Many guitarist use delay in their sound. Roger Waters would be a fantastic example of this.

Do not feel badly. Prince was blacklisted from radio following his rebellion against his record label in the early 1990s where he made his displeasure with corporate recording labels known publicly. So an entire generation missed out on getting exposed to his genius. Better late than never! I hope you enjoy the ride. Purple Rain is amazing but I hope you explore more of his songs. He was a guitar virtuoso, skilled multi-instrumentalist, and such a versatile and prolific songwriter. (He was finally inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame just this year in summer of 2024.) Other well known Prince songs I would recommend you react to are (all have videos that you can react to): Little Red Corvette When Doves Cry ('Extended Version' is best) Diamonds and Pearls Let's Go Crazy 1999 I Wanna Be Your Lover Kiss Cream Controversy I Could Never Take The Place of Your Man The Most Beautiful Girl In The World 7 Raspberry Beret Interesting you mentioned Billy Idol, because back in the 1980s, I always thought Idol's "Eyes Without A Face" reminded me of Prince's sound during that era. Since you liked Purple Rain so much on your first listen, if you want to see a great example of a Prince concert (he was a GREAT live performer), check out the live version of Purple Rain from 1985 in Syracuse. It's about 15 minutes long with an extended intro but I think you might appreciate it. He plays some jazz guitar, then lights up the venue with that epic, gorgeous guitar tone he is known for. It's an experience. 💜🕊 Great reaction! I look forward to the next.

Welcome 2 the Dawn! You have just accessed the Prince experience. Prince released 39 studio albums, or as I like to call them experiences, a hand full of MP3 experiences. You've just scratched the surface; this is hardly exhaustive of his catalog. Prince had a number of side project, and or other bands for whom he wrote and produced, under his own name or one of his many pen names. All of his recordings and videos are wonderful works, but his live performances are unparalleled. As a Prince fam from day 1, I offer the following advice: #1. Dive in, and dive deep. #2. As you access the treasure trove of experiences, many gems are to be found. As good as radio versions of his songs are, the real gold is in the long versions. #3. Start with the first record. You'll see his evolution; every record is different. He covered nearly every genre in very surprising ways. #4. He had mad lyrical skills. Actually read the lyrics, many had double meanings. I submit the following for your reactions: #1." Housequake " kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoOyn4GKorl8nbs #2. "Shhh" kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnbMYX6redNseMU #3. "Head" kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKWkoHusgs1jiJI #4. The masses usually gravitate toward mediocre and harmless. Most want to be like everyone else and not be considered weird. Prince was the opposite. Beat to his own drum and if you were on board cool but you certainly didn’t dictate what he chose to do. He’d follow a blockbuster with a more experimental album. As a true Gemini he was extremely contrarian and had two sides. However frustrating it could be that many still don’t completely realize just how influential and talented he was, you don’t get the greatness without the freedom in which he operated. Prince was the only superstar that was actually the biggest cult artist the world has ever known. Whenever he wanted commercial success he could do it at will but chose to mostly follow his muse. He remained in his lifetime, one of the greatest live performers and band leaders in the history of music in any genre. As a singer, dancer, guitarist, multi instrumentalist, producer and performer he was virtually peerless. He may not have been THEE greatest at anything but he was unequivocally one of the greatest at nearly EVERYTHING. I saw him over 20 times between 1988 and 2014 and seen everyone. Nobody was close. There was Prince and then everyone else. IMO. Take Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Joni Mitchell, Sly Stone, Little Richard, Charlie Chaplin, Miles Davis and Mozart in a blender, you’ll get Prince. Also he’s his own music genre. Purple Music. No limits. A mix of everything. Yet it all sounds distinctly and uniquely him. 💜💜💜♊️♊️♊️🐐

The live purple stage version is even more intense . Prince was and is genius and a beautiful Soul He played over 30 instruments and self taught. If i remember correctly he wrote over 2000 songs The music companies didn't like him bc he was real and wanted control over his own creations so IMO the music industry actively kept him from the #1 spot 24:06 reportedly Stevie turned it down. I think it was destined to be all his Such a beautiful and deep song ...btw ...the sky is often purple in MN on the lake fronts on Lake Superior at certain times of the year ...the lake is a sacred place to many
