First Time Reaction | Rammstein - "Angst"

Hi guys, as being german, i want to bring some light into the meanings behind this clip. Rammstein uses to play around with double meanings and let the audience find their own interpretation. "Der Schwarze Mann" (literally the black man) can be seen as bogeyman or as the black man as well. All those wires are a symbol of interconnection, feed by main stream and social media, contolled by lobbyists. The lead singer (Till Lindemann) was uplifted by those lobbyists and used to spread those fears and narratives through the wires - straight into the homes and suburbs, which start to bolster their defences. So much details going on, that´s why i will keep this post short, lol. It´s definately also about rasism, fears against refugees and so on - mainly build by politicans, which are controlled by those lobbyists. In the outro, the band is eating a german treet, named "Schokokuss", once contained the N word and was renamed a while ago. The clip ends with crushing the TV, which brings back the color and stops the B/W view of the consumers...pretty deep clip, if you ask me.

Great explanation. I would also like to add that I believe the red color symbolizes fear that is being spread to the masses. The shadowy figures (possibly those people who are influencing politicians and others in power) are shown feeding on that fear later in the video.

@@LeoJay55 Tja, Leo...da siehste mal wie einspurig Du denkst - Absicht bei diesem Song (wie auch den meisten anderen Rammstein Songs) ist ja, dass man alles mit aktuellen Themen ersetzen kann, die Abläufe, Phrasen und Opfer aber immer die selben bleiben. Die Opfergruppe wird herausgesucht/vorgegeben und mittels Angstschürerei verunmenschlicht, die Saat des Hasses vervielfältigt und verbreitet, um die Ziele der "Lobbyisten" zu erreichen. Werkzeug sind dann meistens die Politiker oder (politische) "Bewegungen". In Deutschland wurde schon vom schwarzen Mann geredet, bevor die meisten je einen gesehen haben...nur mal so! Es gab historische Museen, in denen afrikanische Einwohner als Attraktion vorgeführt wurden, unter Kaiser Wilhem...Geschichte - das Ding, aus dem die Menschheit niemals lernt. Der schwarze Mann aber, kommt noch aus Zeiten vor dem Miitelalter und wurde immer wieder aus der Trickkiste geholt, für negative Dinge: Der schwarze Peter, der schwarze Freitag, die schwarze Pest, der schwarze Tod, die schwarze Katze, usw.

Angst … to worry, emotional, nervousness. I think this is about the media, social media telling us all to fear different groups of people and one another.

As already mentioned by @martinmatte1518 in his comment, the tranlation to bogeyman is correct but not complete. Literally it's "The black man". Originally "black man" stands for a kind of bogeyman (or death) in German. There is an old catch and run children's game. One child is the "black man", starting with the phrase "Who's afraid of the black man?". The others answer "No one." ... "And when he comes?" ... "Then we run." The children run away and try to escape the "black man". When one is catched, it is the next "black man". I guess that's originated from medivial time when the plague (or "black death") killed half of the population of Europe. Infected people partly got a black skin and and children were told to stay away from them. Nevertheless Rammstein is playing with the double meaning of "black man". Some politicians and media spread fear about refugees comming to Europe. And even though most of them are not black, they might look a bit different and give a trigger to xenophobia ... which those politicians try to use for their own goals. So "crazy" politicians (one of the two roles, Till plays in the video) and indifferent media just seeking for attention are a dangerous combination. (That is at least my interpretation.)

Often foreigners dont understand ramstein symbols, the band was born in the east part of germany, so the wall stands for berlin wall and the divided german, so the schwarze mann most translated as boogyman, baba yaga or skinnwalker stands with the television for the schwarze kanal from eastpropaganda too. the cameras on the wall stands for the communistic stasi and the weapons for the borderstasi wich shoots and kill ppl wich wanted to leave the DDR (eastgermany) you can find same signes in the Song Radio.

Nice reaction guys. As always it's helpful to watch their videos multiple times and understand more of it. For example what Till stands for, or the cheerleaders, the black people in the beginning and the end. A little hint here: what they are eating in the end was called a "negro kiss" in the past. Oh and "schwarzer mann" has more than one meaning. It could be meant the boogeyman, but translated straight its "black man".

Great reaction, you will miss a lot of world play if you don't speak German or understand some of German word usage. I always try to do this with Rammstein! What is your native language? Shout out to the guy on the right with the Nets jersey
