I hadn't heard of Sam Ryder before this year's contest and when I saw that he was amongst the favourites I was sceptical, based on our lousy showing in recent years. But then I heard the song and I was knocked out. He really is a force of nature, always so positive and cheerful and is genuinely talented. I hope he has a long career and won't be just a one hit wonder.

Sam performed at Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam back in April. He got the whole audience waving their arms, they were singing the song back to him and they were hanging onto his every word. You could have heard a pin drop when he sang the final line “…and I want to go home”. It was the only performance that made me emotional and it was at that point we knew he was a winner.

I think to truly appreciate the context to this song for us brits watching this at home live. For years, weve been the laughing stock of eurovision consistently sending absolute rubbish and ending up at the very bottom of the pack. 2 years in a row coming last place and not coming in the top 10 since 2009. It reached a point where people wanted the UK to leave eurovision. And then comes Sam Ryder. A tik tok star who a lot of people hadn't heard of before. He's got amazing hair and an incredible voice and on the night of the final, he delivers this. And finally, it feels like once again, we're back in Eurovision. Chills ❤️❤️❤️

Yes! I enjoy Eurovision a lot generally even when we're rubbish (which has been most years for a long time) because I love non-Anglophone music and the showcase it provides for it, but this year I felt redeemed by Sam representing us, like we could hold our heads up as competitors again. Before, I'd be just cringing at our entries and feeling aggrieved at whoever decided that a country that has been such a strong music industry leader and has produced generations of world-beating talent sending absolute nonentities and end of the pier crap every year because of this really odd, outdated stigma the UK has against the competition. Eurovision seems to be regarded as musically irrelevant here when it is only one of the biggest launchpads globally for musicians. An audience of 200 million is nothing to be sneezed at. Time we took it seriously and look what happens when we do, eh? It was never 'political' that we did badly, it was entirely due to sending unsellable, unknown, low talent rubbish that wouldn't even have qualified for the final if we had to compete fairly. I've always asked people who said our failure was political if they bought the failing song, sought out the artist afterward, bought tickets to their gigs or anything to show they actually thought the music was good enough to do well. The answer was always, well, NO .. but but but. Laughable.

I dont pay a lot of attention to Eurovison generally. From what I did see in his interviews prior to the show, I think a lot people reacted to him as much as his performance. He came across as a very engaging, happy, likeable guy, who seemed very grateful just to be performing and was clearly enjoying his time there. People reacted to that, and it was obvious he was very much liked by the rest of the competitors.

Hi Dereck Reacts, Thanks for the approval on the UK song. I'm a new subscriber since i watched the review of Cornelia Jacobs Hold Me Closer which was an amazing song which i play every day. Like i play it too often lol because its so reminiscent of many peoples' social lives, especially if your in a gay relationship like me that goes against a strict religion and socially perceptual beliefs. There is always that deep love when u find the perfect one, but you cant show your love for fear of backlash from closed-minded people and judgement. its hard wanting to hold hands or showing affection in public, but you dont wanna break up for the hurt, or stay together for the heartache it may cause because you feel trapped. Society has a lot to answer for in my opinion.But anyhow, I never heard of Sam Ryder until Eurovision and i must admit i was totally impressed when i watched the music video, which i rarely do before the live performance to save bias. After, i went back and searched iTunes and found a song called More which he did and that is fantastic. I live in Gloucester, UK and there was a festival called Barn on the Farm and he was there! i couldn't believe I missed my chance to see him live! love the videos keep up the good work handsome :). Don't worry about the haters, there is always someone who dislikes what you do, u just have to stay strong and positive! :) Too many people spend too much time judging others,sacrificing their own lives and then later regret it. There is no rule book on the perfect human, so maybe lets treat each other with more respect as we are ALL the same.

I was so proud of our UK entry. To come from last to second the next year was a great achievement. This showed Britain could do well at Eurovision with the right song, artist, and staging that had nothing to do with Brexit as some people have mentioned numerously. The above reason reversed barring Brexit is exactly why the UK did badly before this year for a while until the BBC changed music agencies and took Eurovision seriously for once. What happened last year probably gave them a kick up the backside which caused the change obviously. Hopefully, over the next few years, we stay internal with Tap management if we seem to do well that wayfinding other good artists like Sam, and who knows we could possibly win Eurovision at some point then.

@littleblackpistol2 жыл бұрын
No, it wasn't. Ukraine was hotly tipped as a winner before the war even started because it's a strong song with a very Ukrainian mix of traditional folk melodies and instrument and modern genre. Jury actually awarded Sam first place and the televote gave Ukraine the win. Fair and square. That's how Eurovision works. Every year someone gains in one category and loses in another. 2021 Ukraine did poorly in jury vote and amazingly in televote too. Juries are conservative and televote is actually what people like and want to see/buy/follow.
