Imagine being one of the horn players that was hand picked to record on a freakin Beatles album. What an addition to the resume that must have been.

There's a great story about a harp player who got called late one night to do a session at the studio. Turned out it was for She's Leaving Home (from Sgt. Pepper), and was she shocked to see that she was playing for the Beatles! She received the standard 50 pounds/hour for her iconic work on that song.

Oh yeah, this one really grabbed me hard when I was in junior high. And I was also learning to play trumpet at the time or actually I played it since 4th grade at that point but really I like everything about it and I love the point of evolution in the Beatles that it represents.

Of course EWF were a genuine horn band (from the 70's). This Beatles is a pop guitar quartet in 1966, and for them and that time, it was a very good song. As it was probably the best pop/RnR album of the year. The EWF cover was the only redeeming song on that movie monstrosity.

The Beatles recording studio was on the second floor of the building. The first floor was the BBC’s classical recording studio. If they wanted horns, strings, you name the instrument they had elite musicians downstairs that could play it. They were the Beatles they got whatever they needed.

McCartney revealed that the song was inspired by his introduction to marijuana, describing it as "an ode to pot".

Amazingly, this song was released as a single 10 years after it appeared on "Revolver" and went to #7 in the US. The Beatles are timeless.

The Revolver album, from which this song comes, was originally going to be recorded at Stax Studios but word got out and the had to scrap the plans. I can only imagine how that album would have sounded.

Sweet! Revolver is a great album, possibly the greatest. For an old-school "find my way back way back to you baby" song, check out "Working My Way Back to You" by The Spinners from 1978. And For an old-school "got to get you back" song, check out "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5 from 1969, with Michael Jackson singing the lead. And for some old-school horn based jams, check out Blood, Sweat & Tears "You've Made Me So Very Happy" from 1968, Chicago "Does Anybody Know What Time It Is?" from 1969, The Doors "Touch Me" from 1969, and Sly & The Family Stone "Dance to the Music" from 1967.

The Beatles used horns a number of times after this as well. One of my favorites is Honey Pie off of the "White Album". It has a1930's feel to it. Peace

You will find that there are many more different vibes genres and styles of music that you will hear from The Beatles as you listen to more and more of their catalogue. You should do a reaction to Helter Skelter. Just make sure it is the original version from The White Album.

About pot? Sounds like one of Paul's misdirections. More likely it was about a girl Paul started having an affair with at the time. Girlfriend Jane was pretty straight-laced. He would sneak off and smoke pot with the free-spirited fling on the side.
