Their song "He ain't heavy, he's my brother". Is a must. Its about foster boys in Boys Town learning to support each other. One of the boys was disabeled. Its a amazing song.

@@subwaygoddess1 Love the old 60s British groups. How about "The Seekers"? "I'll Never Find Another You" and "Georgy Girl" - although for context, you probably need to be familiar with the movie to enjoy that song...Check out "The Byrds"" Turn Turn Turn"..."To Sir With Love" by LuLu...Great movie theme song to a fantastic Sidney Poitier movie.

@rubyslippers8215 my mom used to babysit this 3-month-old boy, back in the 60s. I was a little girl, and while I held the baby, EVERY time I put on the 45 of "I'll Never Find Another You," the baby would go nuts laughing. He never did that when I sang any other song!!! I once sang "To Sir With Love" in a singing contest, when I was in 6th or 7th grade. I didn't win, but I had a great time singing it! I fell in love with Sidney Poitier because of that movie! I love "Turn Turn Turn" and Georgy Girl!

It is NOT a song about "foster boys in Boys Town learning to support each other". The phrase - "He ain't heavy - he's my brother" is a phrase that the organization copied - but it has been around and in print and in stories/sermons in Britain and the US going back to the book "The Parables of Jesus" by Scottish Moderator James Wells in 1884.

A very underrated band. Give Carrie Anne and Stop Stop Stop a listen where it's more of a British sound that Graham Nash had been part of.

See, you aren't dumb as you think you are! Like you figured it out, swamp rock like CCR was the style of this Hollies song. Yes, 3-part harmonies are their forte! "Bus Stop", "Carrie-Anne" , "On A Carousal", "Stop, Stop Stop" are a few of their 60's hit. Other 70's hits were "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "The Air That I Breathe" and my favorite "Long Dark Road".

What he's doing there with the lead vocal improvisations at the end is absolutely so playful and funny and really clever. That when you play it live, it gets people expecting to start chanting along, but then he doesn't deliver the phase and just hums it instead and then surprises them by saying it when it wasn't expected, and you just hear the laughter in his voice as he's kind of clowning around in the low register at the end

This song reminds me of rollerskating at the Hawaiian Gardens rink…. it was behind the wagon wheel bowling alley. That’s pretty much what most of the country had at the time. Rink, bowling alley, drive-in…. it was a great time to be a kid!

Love this group. The Hollies are a British pop rock group formed in 1962 & known for their great harmonies. They had so many hit songs such as "The Air That I Breathe", "Bus Stop", "Stop Stop Stop", "He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother", "On A Carousel", "Carrie Anne", "Here I Go Again", "Look Through Any Window", "King Midas In Reverse", "Jennifer Eccles" etc. "Graham Nash" was originally in this group & left in 1968 to form "Crosby, Stills & Nash".

It's funny but because of that echo on the voice that you mentioned, and the sound texture and style of the guitars, and really just the year that it came out in basically, but a lot of people actually assumed that this was CCR and were surprised to find out that it was the Hollies. It really is such a fantastic banger of a song. I like all their earlier stuff too, but this one absolutely kills. I've actually performed it live in a band several times, and people would just dance their asses off, lol. And the lyrics are absolutely hilarious!

This is very different from other Hollies songs because it was written as a song by two of the members (Allan Clarke and Roger Cook) and while it was pretty much all him, it was included in the Hollies album, becoming a hit. So, it is Hollies, but really it is Clarke, who did the lyrics, most of the music, and the vocals.

The arrangement the songwriters had sounds like the same deal John Lennon and Paul McCartney had with The Beatles, in that any song done by either of them, as well as those done by both of them, would be credited to both.
