Back then we didn't even know what the word "genre" meant. It was a different world with all kinds of music hitting the airwaves. Quality was the key.

@@richardmartin9565 So true. The top 40 or so list contained so many different types of music. I.looked forward for my favorite singer/groups song to be released. Better times indeed for me.

@@richardmartin9565 That is a trait I've seen across the board with under 40 reactors. A burning need to pigeonhole, and the need to disect the lyrics for meaning. I admit though I take everything at face value, so if I hear alligator lizards in the air, I see alligator lizards in the air lol. We had Rock, Soul and Country and they were broadly defined.

Yes. There's nothing like the 1960s music. It changed America. In 1965 0n Rock changed America. LSD in 1965 forever. Then Vietnam. We veterans Rocked to these sounds. We had the best sound systems in our hooch's. Served from 1971 to 1975. Shot at even in America. We kicked a lot of asses too. 74 years old veteran. The Young Rascals were the first all-white rock/R&B group to be signed by Atlantic Records in the mid-1960s. The Rascals were given an office in Atlantic's Manhattan headquarters amidst many offices of other established, famous acts, such as Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin. One day, soon after the band's early recording success, Pickett opened the door of The Rascals' office, peered at the band members' faces and shouted "Yep, THEY'RE ALL WHITE !!"

One of my favorite Pop/R & B groups from the 60's! Very versatile. "Good Lovin" is a rocker. "A Girl Like You " is a good pop song & "How Can I Be Sure" is a good ballad from them. Another good band from the 60's are Paul Revere & The Raiders. React to "Hungry", "Let Me" or "Indian Reservation. Thanks.

Many very good songs Good Lovin, People gotta be Free, Beautiful Morning, A Girl like You. Hard to believe this great song will be 60 years old in 2027, timeless. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and sure deserved it. Best of luck on yr channel

Another one of the great 60's groups I grew up with. They started out as "The Young Rascals" but later were just known as "The Rascals". They were considered rock & blue-eyed soul. They had a lot of hits such as "A Beautiful Morning", "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore", "You Better Run", "I've Been Lonely Too Long", "Good Lovin'", "People Got To Be Free", "A Girl Like You", "It's Wonderful" etc.

The Young Rascals were America's first and greatest blue eyed soul group. Unlike some bands these guys added to the genre and didn't merely try to capitalize on it. Listen to their incredible "Lonely Too Long", "A Girl Like You", "People Got To Be Free", "Good Lovin' ", "How Can I Be Sure" and "You Better Run". A big hits and all the best of this genre.

This is pretty light for them. They do much nastier, grittier stuff, like "Good Love". But this was the 70s and genres had briefly become less of a straight jacket. Another classic of that sort is the Vanilla Fudge cover of The Supremes' tune, "You Keep Me Hanging On". The original recording sounds like it was recorded on a potato, but it has incredibly atmosphere.
