That indeed is Agust D, real name Min Yoongi, more commonly known as 'Suga' is the stage name he uses both for BTS and when he produces/features in other artists work (he's won producer of the year in Korea for his work with another artist). He is indeed a rapper/writer/producer for BTS, which features two other rapper/writer/producers (RM, J-Hope), along with four vocalists (Jungkook, Jimin, Taehyung, Jin)who also contribute to writing/production) that make up the seven members of BTS. In their review of their latest album, Map of the Soul:Seven, Rolling Stone described them as being a little like the Wu Tang Clan in terms of the fact that they're basically a super group of insanely talented artists. Yes, they sing (and rap) and dance, but they're not your typical "boy band" or even your typical "k-pop" group. As a group BTS spans the genres from hip hop about as hard hitting as a song like this (Ddaeng, UGH, Cypher series) to R&B to alt-rock to pure pop, and almost everything in between (and sometimes all in one song). Agust D is the mirror flip of "Suga from D-Town" (his home city is Daegu, South Korea), and in 2016 he put out his first mixtape with the title track "Agust D" which is also has a music video you could react to. Daechwita is the main single off his brand new mixtape which he just released on Friday, which you can find the full track listing on spotify for. There are a lot of lyric videos on youtube, but since you look like you actually care to get a *good* translation of what he's saying, look up Doolset's BTS translations for the best translations on the web for their entire discography. Speaking of, BTS's discography is huge, and the other rappers in the group also have their own mixtapes. If you want to check out their rap heavy songs, check out Ddaeng (also recommend the "Ddaeng explained by a Korean" video you can find on youtube to understand the wordplay used), UGH, Outro:Tear, and Cypher 1-4 (four songs). For one of their most popular rap heavy songs, look up Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix). For a couple of their recent singles, you can also look at ON (I recommend the Kinetic Manifesto video) or Black Swan.

The media has a long history of diminishing the artistry of great male groups by prejudicially deeming them boy bands or groups, think the Beatles or Rolling Stones during the rock era , while taking others and calling them musical groups, think The Doors or Led Zeppelin, also during the rock era. The result is the visual aspects of the members tend to overshadow any legitimate musicianship in peoples mind until people become woke. This is not to say certain male groups weren't formed for visual appeal but this doesn't happen frequently in the West. Along comes K Pop and BTS, a multigenre K Pop group which formed its own lane within that genre so much that some wonder if BTS can even be called K Pop anymore. Formed as a hip hop group by a small company in a Korean industry controlled by 3 large corporations which voraciously engage in anticompetitive practices to prevent any small corporation groups from succeeding, BTS was switched by its management into an idol group which continued to be hip hop focused but within a genre which demanded constant visual presentation. This kept them from financially failing, seven boys so poor they all had to sleep in one room. But they always maintained a strong rap dedication with three rappers fronting the group. The Western media has deemed them boy band failing to look at their music and concentrating on this visual side. Many males have missed out as the media has made it difficult for them to engage. BTS is now the largest group in the world. Their last tour was exclusively at large sold out outdoor stadiums across the world including here in the US. They play before 40 to 60 thousand each engagement so if Daechwita gets you in the door, welcome to a lot of cool music.

I'm not a fan/army I'm not that with any artist, I listen to alot of stuff from different artist mostly rock but the guys are so fucking talanted and great humble people and they make/produce/wright great music so I enjoy watching the MV's and hearing everything they make/made and even if not all is in my personal music taste there are lots of songs that are and that I do listen to too. The problem with "K-Pop" is that many people think they have no real talent, saying they just look like little girls dancing and lipsyncing. So BTS members have their solo's and you can see they have A LOT talent. Suga and RM (the main rappers of BTS) got criticised because they left the underground rap scene and joined a Kpop-idol group. There is a 3rd rapper (J-Hope) that started to rap AFTER he joined the group. BTS was supposed to be a Hip-Hop group at the beginning, that's why they actually wanted the rappers to be in the group. That guy you reacted to is: Agust D (solo name) Suga (name in BTS) Min Yoongi (real name) "Agust D" is him going solo as a rapper. So this is not really K-Pop, it's just him doing what he loves and showing people that he's not only a "cute K-Pop idol".

The thing is Agust D (aka Suga) do be “boybanding”..like bts do have pop songs and they do dance and sing too.. but they’re one of the most versatile groups ever. Yes it’s under the “kpop” label but I’d refrain from only labelling them as pop and only a boyband because they don’t fit the stereotypes of those labels. There’s 3 rappers in bts including the one you watched you can all SPIT. They’ve ended careers before on certain tracks.. it’s straight up rap.. no pop here. Their discography started rap centric with minimal pop but they evolved into more pop, r&b, ballads, etc. Think of almost any genre and bts have it in their discography it’s insane. Also their dancing is dance crew level intense choreography not some cute boyband choreography so you should check that out if you’re interested 👀 You’ll see a lot of bts fans try to separate bts from the “kpop” and “boyband” labels for this reason because we want people to realize how much of an anomaly they are. I have a strong feeling you’re gonna fw more of their stuff because of how hype you got to this. Watch: -UGH! (rappers only) -Mic Drop -Ddaeng (rappers only) -ON Kinetic Manifesto Film -Black Swan

Catch_Me_If_You_Can It's disrespectful and demeaning to label all korean music as kpop. That's like taking all western music and labeling it as all english pop or smn to that effect. Honestly, the more accurate term for what the west considers is kpop is idol music. In korea, daechwita is most certainly NOT considered idol music so no, it's not kpop, it's hip hop

Catch_Me_If_You_Can idk if you’re korean so im not tryna be on you, but korean people call “kpop” as “idol music” cause it’s not a genre it’s an industry, and obviously “bbb” by bigbang sounds nothing like “breathless” by astro but they’re both still kpop. for example suran is korean but isn’t kpop/idol music. also hip hop is about writing your own music that has meaning to you, a lotttt of kpop groups don’t do that (of course nowadays it’s changing but if you don’t write your own lyrics, you’re not a hip hop artist, period.)

For those who don't know: *Min Yoongi is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer that goes by Agust D on his solowork.* Yoongi is also one of the 3 rappers in the South Korean group BTS + one of their producers and songwrighters and goes by Suga with BTS etc. Min Yoongi was a undergroud rapper before joining the company Big Hit Entertainment to be a producer but then became part of the group BTS along with 6 other people (2 other rappers & 4 vocalists) when BTS was formed and they make music in all sorts of genres. The BTS members are all different multitalants and the group members all can sing or rap or both and dance and wrights music. But BTS members have a mix of talents like some are well educated dancers in different genras and/or songwrighters and/or producers and/or singers and/or rappers and/or can play different instruments etc etc. *Min Yoongi still does solowork outside of BTS as both a songwrighter and producer for other artists and sometimes collabs as a rapper then usually under the name Suga and he does his own solo music too like this as Agust D.* The building you see in the MV is a palace and you see him dressed as a king. Daechwita (literally `great blowing and hitting`) is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by the army with wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while marching. So basically, it is a traditional Korean music style played by the army while marching to war. It is also played while the king is in a procession. Yoongi himself said it's a song played while the king is in a procession. For more about the MV and lyrics and meaning do both the DKDKTV and the Bookish Theories explanations they explain different things and their theories.

@katiaferreira43704 жыл бұрын
There are several theories regarding the song and MV and all of them plausible but bear in mind that it could be open to interpretation. The artist has explained his ideas on a video himself on one of the company’s KZbin channels known as Bangtan TV should you wish to know more. But ultimately I think it is up to how you see it yourself. Firstly The word Daechwita refers to a type of Korean music that is played when the army marches to war. It means ‘a blow or hard hit’ I believe. His past self and current self are fighting for dominance. In his last mixtape he says that Min Yoongi (his birth name) was killed off by Suga (his stage name in BTS) but here we have his true self kill off the King and his ruthless dominance. I have seen some Army make reference to Suga actually descending from a royal bloodline. Something I didn’t know but hey we are always learning. The garment he is wearing is actually the type that was worn by Kings and during the time, anyone who had a scar could never be king or queen. The fact that he has one proves how powerful he is. However note that some fans have said that if a king suffered scars as a result of war this would be an entirely different case. Anyways this guy is a savage 😎🔥 Some Korean fans have said that the real king kills the fake king in the end because the scar on the tyrant blonde king seems fresher whereas on the other it appears to have healed. A pact was formed with the executioner to kill the fake tyrant self absorbed king before the intended beheading. The black figures are said to be the the BTS fandom (Army) who help keep Suga: Agust D in check. He knows where he came from, he knows his roots and will not have fame distort his origins and reality. Hopefully this helps As for the genre- it’s Korean hip hop. There are many great Korean artists such as Zico, JayPark, Crush... many others. I recommend you check UGH and Daaeng by the BTS rapline. They are so good! DKDKTV explanation videos are so good at explaining their great wordplay, message, symbolism and nuances! Well worth checking!

Suga/Agust D is such a great rapper and producer. He's always being called for collaborations by powerhouse female soloists in Korea and not just that, Logic about to drop a song with him soon! (and Joji rumor collab too). I don't want him to just be known for being in BTS. You should watch Interlude: Shadow next!
@annedolan24934 жыл бұрын
And not just the female soloists (even though I know that’s the majority). “Eternal Sunshine”, the song he did with Epik High was so good. I think what makes him such a sought after and good producer is how he tailors the sound to the artist, what they want, and what they sound good on, as well as the correct vibe/emotion for what the song’s about (like how “Eight” even though sounding really upbeat was still somewhat haunting). And the way he produces reflects in how he raps; with emotion, using breaths and voice inflections to get his point across.
@Mori-Chan6134 жыл бұрын
BTS don't settle with one genre.. they are sooo diverse that Kpop don't fit to describe their genre. I think so many people would agree to this, that they have the best and talented rappers in the industry. You want more headbangers from the BTS rapline (RM, SUGA & J-Hope)? Then I recommend: AGUST D (his first mixtape. the one you watched is from Agust D-2, his 2nd mixtape). Agust D is known as SUGA from BTS. The name "AGUST D" is SUGA backwards and DT is Daegu Town, South Korea (Suga's hometown). RM mixtapes J-hope's hope world mixtape BTS Cypher series 1-4 Ddaeng UGH! Cypher Medley Live performance Chicken noodle soup by J-hope In general, BTS songs tell a relatable story. If you get interested to listen to their songs, check ALL. Yeah ALL. 😂 The members write & produce their own songs and that's I believe what sets them apart from the other kpop idols who sing and dance to a company-produced "manufactured" songs. With BTS, they are given the artistic freedom to expand their craft. Lastly, if you want to laugh your ass off (when you're down 😂) check out "RUN BTS" the members are natural crackheads. Enjoy your journey to BTS' rabbit hole. 😂

2 of the members used to be underground rappers and one used to be underground dancer who also later became one with the first 2 to be the rap unit of BTS. Rappers of BTS are: • Namjoon (stage name “RM”) - used to be underground rapper • Yoongi (stage name “Suga aka Agust D”) - used to be underground rapper • Hoseok (stage name “J-Hope”) - used to be an underground dancer All 3 were inspired by the OGs of HipHop while ALL 7 members of BTS took the time to REALLY learn the culture behind HipHop (history and all) under the supervisions of Coolio and Warren G. Used to be their albums were focused on RNB and HipHop sounds but they evolved their style along the years. By the way all of the members of BTS have contributed to their tracks both in writing and producing and in fact the 3 rappers have each put out mixtapes while the rest of the members have put out a track or two to their name.

The thing is, when you know how Yoongi (Suga/Agust D) is like off stage, you’re just shook seeing him like that. Sometimes I wish someone would’ve let me react to Yoongi first and then to Suga & Agust D. I probably wouldn’t have believed it. I still can’t believe it sometimes. But I love that all of the members are like that... the duality I guess.

Please listen to his song actually called "Agust d". Love bts and all 3 of their rappers are great. RM's "joke" is good. "Mic drop" by bts is always a good one to start with and "UGH!"

Glad you reacted to this song!!! btw even though media refers to bts as a "kpop boyband" they're definitely much more than that. It's just a way of dishmishing their artistry. They're one of the most versatile groups ever. Their discography has hip hop roots but then they expanded to other genres.

It's not just Agust D or Suga that's on another level. The entire group BTS is on a whole other level. Unique and brilliant and pushing the envelope in every way. There's a legitimate reason why they're the biggest group in the world right now. And you think a highly stylized and edited music video is fire? Suga and ALL seven members of BTS are explosive volcanoes in concert. They tear up the stage with the most energy and passion you can ever imagine. These guys are the real deal in every way. Dive right in. You won't be disappointed.

love how when most people react to bts, or in his case agust d, for the first time - before the music starts they're just like "idk what to expect and idk if i'll like it or not" and then after the mv ends they're just like "yoooo this isn't what i expected this sh!t is fire". 😩 y'all - it's called having no expectations. just bc they're a boy "band" (they're actually a group), doesn't mean it's gonna sound anything like the backstreet boys or n'sync. sorry if this sounded rude, just felt like getting this off my shoulders

Is Suga from bts . Suga -> aguS td backwards, is his alter ego. *Bts Is south Korean group, this days people prefer don't mix them with kpop. Kpop is just a label to say that everything that comes out of Korea is that (false) bts is not considered kpop because of its great repertoire of genres and that it does not follow the same line of the kpop industry. 1. They are 7, 4 vocalist, 3 rappers (2 underground rappers) all dancers 2. Bts compose and produce their own music, so is very personal, they talk about mental health, politics, society, their fans, self love, etc 3. They have a story behind their videos so is difficult to new people understand, we (the armys) used to read a several books and study set, philosophy, psychology and mythology to understand. Their last album for example was "map of the soul: 7" and is inspired by the psychologist book the map of the soul by Jung. 4. The army love them because they are good people who through a lot of bad things to be where they are now, and even being famous they stay humble. 5. They have a lot of genres but their base is very hiphop / rap. Also you can find subtitles in every possible language thanks to the fans, u only need to search with the name of the song. **Bts always present themselves as a Korean group, and always said they don't want to be labeled in a genre or industry. The fans also do not want to be mixed with kpopers, (most of us aren't kpop fans) we don't have the same ideals

Daechwita is a Korean style of music used by the army when marching into war as well as used in the king’s procession. The old self and current self fight for dominance in this song and music video. In his previous mixtape, He made reference to Suga (Stage name in BTS) having killed Min Yoongi (his birth name) but in this song and video through Agust D, the King is killed off. Suga has always said that he is able to express his raw side through his alter ego Agust D. Fun facts: Suga descends from royalty in real life and is dressed in kingly garments. Long hair is indicative of status and wealth. People who had scars during that time period could never be king or queen and the fact that he has one shows how powerful he is in going against the stereotypes

I don't know if you heard this already but in the MV Suga created the concept of a blonde king,being the old Agust D, showing how the taste of power can easily corrupt a person,or boost their ego too high,so he created another Agust D to kill him to show that he still values his roots.

Yoongi (Agust D/Suga) has always said he wants people to listen to them without prejudice. You will find they are not like a pop boy band...they can be but they are very genre fluid. They sing everything from hip hop, rap, rock, edm/trap, r&b, pop....they sing fusion music mixing various cultures and sound. You are in for a ride! BTS are legends. And they aren't just for young girls. The biggest part of their fandom are 20-50 yr olds. This song is off Agust D's second solo independent mixtape. He wrote and produced it himself. (He did the concept for this video too) Actually all the members write and produce for their albums. The rap line does the majority of it. All members have solo projects. They are all highly talented. Ps. This mixtape was put out there for free for his fans on Soundcloud. You can purchase it to show support but it's free. They love their fans. We gets tons of free music.

The crazy thing with K-Pop (that I also found out recently) is that it's not just a single genre. They mesh and meld so many genres and it creates a whole new sound. On top of that it is a full out performance. They rap, sing, dance, and have some of the craziest live show and MV effects of seen. Welcome to the rabbit hole of K-Pop brotha. It only gets crazier from here lol

Thanks for your respect for this man's talent. One thing I'd like to point out, considering the quality of this MV and the effort and money involved, the mixtape is a free release, one of many created by BTS members, as a group or soloist. They love what they do and believe in giving back to their fans. Agust D goes by the name Suga when performing with BTS, where you will discover he is a dancer, as well as a producer and songwriter.

Individually, the members of BTS are equally talented in their own forte. Can you just imagine the power they have when all 7 of them perform together. Collectively, they are unstoppable.

So as Agust D, Suga says things that he cant say as Suga of BTS because of the strict laws in Korea about what can and cant be said on tv etc. BTW this was released for free for fans as are all their solo mixed tapes but we still choose to buy it to support them. BTS is extremely diverse in the sort of music they make to call them a "boy band" is a diservice they do a lot of music that tackles social issues and often when they sing about love its not the love between a man and a woman its about self love, etc. they cover rap, pop, edm, trap and r&b there is something there for everybody.

In the video, he has a scar. BUt he still refers himself as a king. In South korea, a king can't have a scar. He broke his own country's rules. Not only that but suga ( his real name is min yoongi) has aslo learned sword art in a few days for this m/v. He has lots of music where he raps quickly. The first song of agust d called agust d is quicker and has more rapping involved.

This is his 2nd solo mixtape project. The previous first mixtape released 2016 #agustd He is known as undergroumd raper bfore joining BTS since teenager. Together with RM BTS leader and Jhope BTS main dancer they write, compose and produce all BTS song. Suga well known with his agresive, raw and rude and deep meaning lyrics raper. He is true, straighforward and could slap haters right in the spot with his lyrics. The funny thing is at some point the leader and the rest of member BTS need to correct lyrics writen by him cause its sounds too rude. But as a min yonggi he is very calm, quite, talk slow and less. So the first mixtape is about his past, depresion batling and strugling to pursue his dream, and 2nd mixtape #agustd2 talk about his present. You better chek it out #agust d #thelastagustd and if you dont mind learn his lyrics in both mixtape, youll know what goes on his mind and his point of view about world, life and his journey with BTS... Enjoy...
