My favorite group right next to SB19 ❤️. They were formed in 2020 and debuted in 2021. They were a brainchild of a movie director, John Paul Laxamana who envisioned a group with members who come from different regions in the Philippines and give some focus on the diverse cultural aspects of the country. In some of their songs, they sing some parts of it in their native language/dialect or other unrepresented regions. There are over 170 distinct languages/dialects in the Philippines, though Tagalog became the national language. Many of their songs and performances, their outfits, instrumentation of the music, even dance moves were inspired by regional and tribal cultures. They started out with 9 members, but after their first single K'Bye, one member left. After a few singles but before their first EP release of "Pasulong" last year, another 2 left. All their songs are great, some are R&B but it's quite diverse too. I've followed this group since pretty much day one because i was fascinated by the concept. They are worth exploring and they have Wish Bus performances of some songs that you can watch/listen to after the MV. One member, Mo (Aaron Mitchell) is half black American half Filipino, my bias because he's the best singer of the group IMO. Tomás is the shortest yet oldest guy in the group at 25 yo. Youngest is pink-haired guy named Jao. Lead rapper is Alas. Guy with mullet is R-Ji (another favorite because he's funny, and also Tomas.) Last but not least, the leader of the group, Taneo (lean-looking guy who's got a permanent six-pack😂). TBH, Ily-Ily (eelie-eelie) is my least favorite because of so many rhythm changes within one song, like SB19's What song. Gayuma is my favorite, but Maharani seems to be everyone's favorite. Say U Love Me and Aswang are also good. You'll like Day and Night too. They just have so many good songs (pretty much all). Anyway, hope you check out more from them. 😊

You figured it out towards the end! The costumes are from precolonial to the colonial period, even the language from the beginning was using "balangay" to refer to the spanish ships, that's an indigenous word because Spain wasn't there yet. But towards the end when the Americans were coming, they used "bapor" which is from Spanish to mean ship. Softer music from Alamat: Sa Panaginip Nalang and Walang Hanggan

If you’re interested, I can break down what the MV is about. The word “ALAMAT” actually means “LEGEND” in Tagalog. This band is so unique. Literally with every release, they incorporate the Filipino culture into it through choreography, different Filipino languages, textiles in the outfits, the sounds, and Philippine history, and so much more. Their aim is to promote the diverse Filipino culture and language with every MV or song they release. If you want to know more about the Philippine history or culture (even mythical legends), this group is it! This song ‘Dagundong” is about the dark history of the Philippines summarized in one Song/MV. We were deprived of freedom because of colonization. As mentioned, if you’re interested in the history and the references in the MV, then you can continue reading below: 9:40 - if you notice closely, each of the members are dressed in different time periods of the Philippines (from pre-colonial to outfits from the Spanish colonization period). 9:47 - they are reenacting “The Battle of Mactan” in 1521. The Portuguese sailer, Ferdinand Magellan, and his Spanish explorers arrived in Mactan Island. Long story short, he wanted to convert the natives to Christianity, but the chief ruler of the island named Lapu-Lapu (who is considered the Philippines first hero) refused because the natives had their own culture and their own religion. The Spanish explorers threatened to do harm to the natives if they did not submit to the Spanish crown (for example, burning down their village and R women). The native warriors, of course, became angry and fought back. It was 1500 angry warriors armed with poisonous spears and machetes versus 40-50 Spanish explorers. The natives were victorious in the Battle of Mactan, not just because the explorers were outnumbered, but because this is their land and they knew where to hide and attack. The Spanish’s defeat lead to delaying colonization for a few more decades. 11:00 - This is the beginning of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. The lyrics mention “They got decapitated” and “We triumphed, but why does it feel off?” As I mentioned above, the natives were victorious in the Battle of Mactan which delayed Spanish colonization for a few more decades. But they returned in 1565 and began colonizing for over three centuries. The switching of the heads between the members shows how successful the Spanish were in destroying our indigenous customs to replace it with theirs… at least thats how I interpreted it. 11:58 - This is about the Philippine Revolution from years 1896-1898. The lyrics mention ripping the “Tax Certificates” (or “Cedulas” in Spanish). The Filipinos grew tired of the colonial abuse, and began secretly planning a revolution. The Tax Certificates became a sign of enslavement of the Filipinos. When it was time to fight, Filipino revolutionaries crowded around and started ripping their Tax Documents and cried “Viva La Islas Filipinas” (or “Long Live the Philippine Islands”). Ripping their Tax Certificates officially marked the beginning of The Philippine Revolution, and they began fighting immediately after that. 12:46 - The stack of hands in a heaven-like setting along with the lyrics reminds me of all the people who have perished from fighting for our freedom today. 12:49 - The lyrics mentioned “two novels evoked ideals”. Our National Hero of the Philippines, Jose Rizal, wrote two novels that woke the nation up in a time of crisis. These novels are called “Noli Me Tangere” and the sequel is called “El Filibusterismo”. These novels, along with other pieces of work that Jose has done, sparked the Philippine Revolution and the desire for change. 12:55 - “We got to wave out three stars and a sun”. The three stars and a sun are seen in our national flag. After we fought and gained our independence from Spain, president Emilio Aguinaldo waved our national flag for the first time in 1898. 12:58 - “At last, we were unified”. Filipinos were unified in fighting for freedom against the Spanish, but when it came to their new colonizer, they were divided. The Philippines has had many revolts against the Spanish prior to gaining our independence, but it was mainly filipinos fighting for the freedom of their own provinces. The huge revolution in 1896 was when Filipinos became unified and fought for the freedom of the whole country. We had a taste of freedom…but not for long. When the Americans came during our revolution, they gained the trust of the Filipinos because they claimed they were there to “help” us fight the Spanish. In reality, the American conquerors secretly bought the Philippines from Spain for $20M behind our backs (through the Treaty of Paris), and we were handed off to a new colonizer. This is where Filipinos were divided. They were unsure whether to continue fighting because the American conquerors ”Liberated” us from the Spanish. But after an American soldier fired the first bullet and shot a Filipino soldier, they knew that they needed to fight. So the Philippine-American war happened almost immediately after we gained our independence from Spain. Filipinos lost the war, and the American conquerers gained control of the country for almost 50 years. This is why Filipinos can speak English today. You figured out towards the end that it is about our history just by reading the lyrics. i'm just here to provide details cause i love ALAMAT and their goals in promoting the Filipino culture. I'm also a history nerd 😆 Like i mentioned before, you will really get to learn more about the Filipino culture(s) and how diverse the Philippines is through this group. If you want to know more about our history, you can take a look at their hard-hitting song "Kasmala". If you want something more emotional with the message, you can check out "ILY ILY". "ILY ILY" is similar to SB19's "MAPA" in a way cause it's about their parents. My personal favourite is "Maharani" because the use of traditional choreos and traditional sounds with an R&B beat. "Maharani" is still a song thats constantly on repeat because I love and makes me feel like a "queen" 😂 If you love a more beach-vibe sounds, you'll absolutely love "Day and Night" (also a favourite of mine). This song is also on repeat! Their whole discography is really something to check out!

There’s a song Alamat does called Sa Panaginip Na Lang. There’s not much to the video, but it’s a beautiful ballad about unrequited love, where at least in their dreams, they are happily in love. You can also react to their MV and Wish Bus performance of Say You Love Me, and their MV of Maharani, which has them doing parts of two Filipino dances, the Singkil and the Tinikling, using bamboo poles.

Thank you so much for checking them out. I always watch your reaction vids with SB19 and I genuinely love them. I am an A’tin but ever since their last EP was released last year called Pasulong, I fell in love with them and I am so proud to be Magiliw (their fandom name). I swear, in terms of promoting Filipino culture, history, music and etc, they are the guys you have to watch out. their debut single Kbye and all their songs, music vids, performances, outfits and everything that they do, Filipino culture and roots are always involved. Ethnic dances and songs were re-imagined, Filipino urban legends were re-told and Filipino indigenous folks are more respected because of them. I wish to see more of your reaction vids for them. They deserve the best as well!

This song is about the History of the Philippines, fighting colonizers. Each wardrobe represents different eras of Filipino fighting for their freedom. Pre colonial, first scene depicts the Battle in Mactan, where they won against the Spanish colonizers, but after many years Spanish still triumphs in conquering the Philippines, changing their identity, culture, norms which was in the lyrics 1:07 depicting their frustration. 0:36 outfits depicts 'katipuneros' the one who revolutionized against Spain who colonized the PH for 300 years. 0:44 outfits i believe where the illustrados, the educated class, because most Filipinos dont have the priviledge to study at that time, while the katipuneros fight the battle physically, some illustrados use their knowledge to fight, like Ph national hero who wrote the Novels El Filibusterismo, Noli Me Tangere that evoke the ideals of Filipinos (1:59 ) that the Spanish are oppressors oppressing them in their own land. And Filipinos won, but apparently, Spain does not want to admit their defeat (2:09) Treaty of Paris is where Spain secretly sold the Philippines to the United States for $20 Million. Philippines thought that they already have their freedom, but here comes another colonizer which is Americans. But Filipinos have the heart of a warrior - which was in the lyrics of the Chorus and will continue to fight for their freedom

Alamat in Tagalog means "Legend" and indeed they are. does the conscious effort to regain patriotism and nationalism to the newly blossomed Filipino generation through their music. .. to say at least, the shoe attempting to trample upon Alamat while they were atop summit of interlaced hands in the music video represents "Uncle Sam". Our history class would teach us that America helped us be liberated from the Spanish occupation and that they are our saviour only to know that they bought us from The Spaniards to inject their true agenda on Filipino people and later colonize us.

Thank you for Reacting to our 6inoos The 6inoos just had their First Solo Concert last Friday 12-01 and I was there, the boys are very very down to earth and love their magiliws (fan name) They are very talented and their vocals and harmonization are really sets them apart from other groups. Alamat advocates our Filipino Culture and Pre Colonial Philippines as expressed in our traditional dress/textiles, Indigenous Instruments, Art, Song, and Dance. As for Dancing they incorporate Traditional tribal dances that's why the dances are less swaggy/hip hop because that's the core vision of Alamat is to preserve our Tradition and Arts. Their songs though relatable is inspired from History to Myths, Folklore, Traditions, Martial Arts, Literature, Philippine History, Pre-Colonial Philippines. Alamat is not your typical boy group, they have a cause and vision that which I think personally in my country they are still under appreciated. This video Dagundong in a nutshell is 300 years worth of History of Colonialism. They just launched their first LP last November 3, may I suggest checking their Album Isapuso which is a no skip album and their First Mini album Pasulong another no skip album and you will really be convinced that this group is being slept but not for long. For dances they have dance practices you can check out, they also have some songs that have a hiphop vibe dance, but to cap it up what really shines on this group is their vocals, and of course they sing on their native tounges, Philippines speaks different languages but mostly they sing in Tagalog, English, Bisaya, Kapampangan, Hiligaynon, Sambal, Waray-Waray Videos/Songs I can suggest - K Bye debut song, they were 9 member here - Kasmala - they were down to 8 member here, the other member left after their debut with KBye - Maharani - ILY ILY - Gayuma - Say U Love me - Noli - song produced and arranged to ally by Alamat BTW The one who looks like a Babyface with the straw hat is the oldest Tomas is 25 The bunso (youngest) is Jao with the pink hair, his birthday is coming up in a week or two, he's turning 21 Where they reside in Filipinas Taneo - Leader from Kalinga #purokuno Mo - Sub Leader from Zambales #purokdos Jao - Pampanga #puroktres #bunso (youngest) Tomas - Bicol #puroksingko #kuya (oldest) RJi - Samar #puroksais Alas - Davao #puroknuebe Hope this helps and I really suggest to delve into their their discography Magiliw here from Purok Nuebe (Alas Bias) **. I guarantee you will learn a lot about the Philippines and our culture through these boys and their music so pls do check out more of their music. Btw, this song is from their 2nd album called 'Isa Puso' (one heart and or take to heart, has 2 meanings). I recommended you checkout their debut track called 'KBye', that's more of a pop vibe. Fyi: they were originally 9 members, but 3 of the left at different times due to personal reasons.

Alamat means legend. Alamat is a group that always inject the Philippines culture, and history in their songs. This music depicts the Battle of Mactan, when the Spanish conquistador in their suit of armor attacked the island of Cebu to conquer them. The natives fought and this is where Magellan fell. The Spaniards occupied the Philippines for 333 years and after that the Americans for 33 years. You are correct this is a war song against the foreigners that occupied the Philippines. Please react to their song Maharani.

Alamat and Mahalima are good freinds, i believe alamat look up to them since they are the seniors in ppop. They dont have collaborations yet, but there are events where they both are performers like the PPOP CON FESTIVALS.. there are vlogs that shows them being together (forgot who's vlog is that). Btw, fans refrain from mentioning the group name sb19 since the boys are undergoing legal battles with thier former company, so we call them Mahalima for the mean time. Thanks for taking time watching Alamat, they are also good group, my second favorite next to Mahalima. They have lots of nice songs as well. Try Maharani, Ily-ily, lot to mention😊 .
