Welcome aboard, Detrucci. You are embarking on (along with many others) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of rock n’ rollers. Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound and stage appearance is off the rails spectacular. Akane Hirose "Gorilla" - Drums, 28 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA "Assassin" - Bass, 27 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

This band just oozes Talent and Charisma! They have a huge catalog of top notch work. They are one of the hardest working bands around. Over the years they have just gotten better and better, even better still on their just released album. They do just about every genre from skillful pop to extraordinary near metal, but mostly they just ROCK! They are crazy good performers live as well. Really, they are the best rock band in the world right now.

They are: Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - band founder, main lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals and spokespigeon. Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals, main music composer. Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, backing vocals, sequencing. Half human and half gorilla. Misa (ミサ, stylized as MISA) - bass, occasional assassinations. Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - main lead and occasional backing vocals. There are many ways you can tell this is very early. MISA is wearing shoes, Saiki had not yet taken a pair of scissors to the apron on her costume, and Miku is holding a Rickenbacker instead of playing one of her Zemaitis guitars. Akane still has her little hat. It's before MISA got her custom Black Cloud bass. Kanami has been a PRS girl for a while, but is playing an Addictone in this. At the Los Angeles show last year, we were already losing our minds when Miku stepped up to the microphone and said "Breaking new gate." 'Thrill' had not been performed live for a year and a half at that point. I read an interview with the band where they talked about this show. They were surprised at the crowd response. Even with their ear monitors in, they could hear the loud "Hey!" chants during this song.

The best rock band out there. This was their first video and their style has evolved a bit from this. They just dropped a new video (Blooming) from their recently released album. Prepare to be mind blown with every damn song. They seem to be unable to make a bad song. Also believe it or not they are at least as good if not better live.

Instant stank face! Less than 10 seconds into the video you realized that something otherworldly was about to invade your senses. I only discovered Band-Maid a couple of weeks ago, but it seems that the number of Band-Maid virgins is shrinking exponentially because you can't keep that kind of talent hidden forever. And with their newest album release, Conqueror, more of the masses will be exposed to their greatness.

This is their first Music Video. They only get better and better. You need to see the newer stuff, especially from their Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert. These are the sort of BAND-MAID reactions that make a fans day because we get to relive our first reaction. Please do more ASAP. There really are no bad songs. Some don't care for the slow acoustic stuff and the ballads, but they have such range their catalog is deep. Also check out their April Fools persona BAND-MAIKO.

Fun fact: in this video (2014), Miku (rhythm, with flower on her head) still can't playing guitar properly. Then Akane (drum) forced her to practice her guitar skill under Kanami's (lead guitar) coaching. Now she's a full fledged rhythm guitarist.

You are about to enter a deep rabbit hole! BAND-MAID have dozens of great songs and there are rips from their live DVDs on YT, which are in most cases better than the studio versions. Live versions of Take me Higher and Puzzle are phenomenal. They jut dropped a new album today, and the MVs for Rinne and Blooming will give you a taste of how they sound now. They do say “Thrill” in the lyrics, BTW, but with a Japanese accent it comes out as “Suriru”.

This could probably be called their breakout video in 2014 that established their sound and they've only gotten better since then. The song "Thrill" was written for them, but they proved to their management in time that they could write their own songs. "Thrill" is said in the lyrics, although it's hard to tell. The word is taken as a transliteration into their language, which doesn't always work out too well. In this case it comes out as "su-ri-ru", which is the Katakana in your title "スリル". You can just hear an example of it in the penultimate line of the song "suriru to tomoni" - although, to be honest, I'd never listened for it before. They have an extensive catalogue of songs to choose from. They usually do a two-hour long set, and it's still nowhere near enough to get peoples' favourites in. This was the first video l ever saw of this band. But it was their next one Alone, which was the first original song from the band, that made me a committed fan. It took Band-Maid three years to get their record company to ok them doing their own material. They have not looked back since. And they are one of the very best live acts l have ever witnessed.

Congratulations you just found real Rock and Roll courtesy of 5 beautiful and unbelievably talented Japanese ladies. They are a big hit, they just finished up a world tour including 2 sold out concerts in LA. Live performance are their strength. My favorite is "Puzzle" live and another is "Play" live. Also there is acoustic version of "Puzzle" with Kanami and Saiki that is awesome. Have you heard of Babymetal?

Alone was their first original composition written and arranged by Band-Maid. It took three years of Miku begging her former label to allow her to do so. She's told the story many times. "I would go in and say please may we record this. The man would say, no! no! no! (And Miku wags her finger back and forth to emphasize it.) She continued and l would say thank you." Alone was the watershed moment were they went from recording what they were told to record to recording mostly their own original music.
