Yesssssssss, here we go!! BAND MAID!! Great pick, I really like this song. Gotta love the start of the song with Misa slappin' it like theres no tomorrow. The live versions of this particular concert are amazing in general, like I already said 'Onset' is a crazy good instrumental song, 'Puzzle' is one of my favorites, too, there's also 'Don't you tell me' live and 'Take me higher' live which have some guitar battle action! ;) Really enjoyed your reaction, can't wait for the next one!

The drummer has always been excellent. The one that needed work in the beginning was the guitar/vocalist (and creator of the band) Miku. It's confusing, we know.... She is getting guitar lessons from Kanami (the lead guitarist) but Miku is the heart and soul of the band regardless. Without Miku, Band Maid would not be what they are. They are all brilliant, don't get me wrong, but she is the spark. Edit: A page of translations japaneseonestoplyrics.blogspot.com/2017/11/band-maid-play-lyrics-and-translation.html

@@Detrucci There is actually quite a bit more. Kobato Miku tried to start a career in JPOP as part of a female singing group. She didn't make it. This caused her to take a job at Maid Cafés just to pay the bills. It was here Miku got the idea from Kobato to form a band dressed as Maid Cafés employees and stun their audience with blistering music. The problem was Miku could not play an instrument nor did she have any experience with Western style rock n roll. No matter. We don't let little difficulties like that slow us down. Kobato is the, l think by now, the 811 year old pigeon that rents space in Miku's beautiful head. If it helps consider Kobato as Miku's spiritual adviser and general guide. Even though they both inhabit the same person. I heard Saiki mention recently when asked how it was she came to join the band that Kobato lied to her. Saiki says if she had known about the pigeon and the Maid Cafés uniforms she would never have joined the group. So even in Saiki's mind Miku and Kobato are distinctly different personalities. Miku just says her intention was all should dress as "standard" maids in the beginning but Saiki and MISA have morphed over time into "barbed maids".

That's why the blu-ray concerts bundled with some of the BAND-MAID CDs are so great, even though most of the songs are pretty short, one goes right into the next when they perform live. 24 song sets are pretty typical. I left a "cheat sheet" about the band members in the comments for your 'Thrill' reaction, but here it is again: Miku Kobato (小鳩 ミク) - band founder, main lyricist, rhythm guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocals and spokespigeon. Kanami Tōno (遠乃 歌波) - lead guitar, backing vocals, main music composer. Akane Hirose (廣瀬 茜) - drums, backing vocals, sequencing. Half human and half gorilla. Misa (ミサ, stylized as MISA) - bass, occasional assassinations. Saiki Atsumi (厚見 彩姫) - main lead and occasional backing vocals.

You have it wrong, it's not the drummer but the rhythm guitar girl (Miku) was a beginner guitar when started. "Play" was meant to be an instrumental song for their live performances. Kanami composed it as such. But, the members liked it so much, they decided to make it a proper song and Miku wrote up the lyrics in a short time span. So, the lyrics are a bit simpler than their other typical fares which are much more complex and meaningful. Don't be stressed about the meanings of the lyrics of this song. They are just a whole bunch of 'get your ass up and let's go play' kind of thing.

Vocals: Her name is Saiki, probably the hardest for english speakers, (Psy-key is close) No real nickname other than Sai or Sai-chan. Running joke is she broods a lot and gets annoyed by Miku. R Guitar and B Vocals: Miku She formed the band and was the one that learned her instrument. Running joke is she thinks she is a pigeon and says po a lot. Bass: MISA (all caps) Referred to as the assassin due to a misprint long ago and it stuck. Running joke is her drinking. She has whiskey or beer on stage and distracts people during Miku's talk time in concerts by drinking and everyone starts chanting MISA MISA MISA while Miku is trying to talk. You have just scratched the surface on this band and it's so much more that just the music. All of the girls are charming and beautiful with a wonderful sense of humor, their personalities and chemistry are entertaining.

The thing that most people who are not so familiar with B-M don’t know is that they are primarily focused on their live performances and write their songs with live performances in mind. That means 2-hour, 23 songs (minimum). So they prefer variety of songs rather than long songs. Also none of the members were originally into hard rock music and it shows. They don’t stick to pre-defined genres and they also said they don’t like songs over 4 minutes because more than 4 minutes of the same heavy song give them headaches. So they keep changing up their songs. So if you sit through one of their 2 hour concerts, you’ll get a better idea of why their songs are not long, why they have slower or lighter songs or songs that allow for more audience participation With simple lyrics or whoops and other sounds that are not of a particular language.

Some fans rag on me for starting people out on this or 'Thrill', because it's not their best song. That my be, but they have great hooks and they're what hooked me so . . . They're both good solid songs. What next? There's so many ways to go. Any song from this concert is awesome. 'Puzzle', 'Moratorium', the instrumental 'Onset'. I would do that LIVE, the new version is more of an instructional thing. There's a video of each member separately and then a fifth one of them all together, but it's just them playing in the studio against a white backdrop, so LIVE is better. There's the songs with the Battles between MISA and Kanami, 'Take Me Higher' and 'Don't You Tell Me'. But don't forget their Music Videos, especially their April Fools ones as BAND-MAIKO.

@@Mrumff There was question asked about people's favourite Band-Maid song on one of the Facebook groups a while ago, and from 50 replies, only one person picked Play. That's not a knock on the song, but more a reflection of how strong their list of songs is. The 50 people picked 21 different favourites.
@kurt93954 жыл бұрын
The problem with "Play" is that it's an 8/10 song from a band with dozens of 10/10 songs and even a few 11/10's. So, in comparison to their other output, it comes across as mediocre. I think that the reason a lot of people think "Play" is so great and recommend it is because music these days is such trash, people's tastes have gone to shit. So when something decent comes along, and "Play" is a decent song, they go apeshit over it. You see, I came of age in the 70's and there was so much great music out there that you couldn't possibly follow of all of it. So I apologize that my standards are higher.
@RevStickleback4 жыл бұрын
@@kurt9395 I think it gets recommended a lot because of the intro. That opening 45 seconds or so, which isn't even on the studio version, is probably their most dramatic opening to a song, and it's very impressive. Sadly, the kind of people whose music tastes have "gone to shit" wouldn't be impressed by it in general.

Wait what? Thrill IS AMAZING! it is slower than the other songs I have reacted to but still quite possibly my favourite on occassions (depending on my mood ofcourse).
