Band-Maid - Play || First Time REACTION || J-Rock 🇯🇵👏🤘

Band-Maid everyone! And yeah, they're "NOT" K-pop so I want to clear that up; J-Rock or J-Metal. I just looked it up and they were formed in 2013. This was the first time I've ever heard this band. Their eye catching outfits and energy packed style is something that needs to be witnessed. The style of the bassist (Misa) reminds me of Les Claypool and I can also hear some Red Hot Chili Peppers (Flea) in them. What do you all think?
BIG shout out to the band members of Band-Maid, The bassist (Misa) is amazing.... love the drums and the vocals (Saiki Atsume) are strong. The whole band nails it in this song. Play was a fun packed 2 1/2 minutes! Standing ovation to all the members!

Band-Maid fan here: If you like it a little heavier go with MORATURIUM. If you prefer it a little more "ballady" check out DAYDREAMING. You cannot go wrong with ONSET (instrumental). p.s.: I saw them live in Hamburg, Germany 3 weeks ago and their songs sound awesome live because they tweak them compared to Studio :-)

Two guitars, lead and rhythm. The mix made by the engineering is tremendous, whenever you listen to Band Maid, the lead guitar is on your right earphone and the bass and rhythm guitar are on the left. And one thing, the drummer is the creativest one over the world today.

That's great because then you can totally pick out the differents sounds they are making... good information to know. I was swimming a bit with this reaction because of the song starts off 100 mph and I had no experience with them. It took me until I edited the video to really comprehend how good the performance was. This group is going to be a ton of fun and I can't wait to share it with all of you. Both of these bands started in 2013 but Babymetal had way more production and funding initially. I like Babymetal, but they had way more backing and support. Band-Maid had to grow their fan base the hard way. Many of Band-Maid's initial song writings were rejected, NDAd, and filed for later use by their original record label (blood suckers). They have switched labels a few times and now have musical control. So, yeah, I have way more respect for Band-Maid than Babymetal.

Hello Tom Clark!!! Wow, that was a lot of information to read but you dropped so much good information for me to digest. I can't even believe that they are all in their mid to upper 20s. They are all so adorable and look innocent. I guess that would have a little to do with their outfits hahaha. Tom Clark great information just found this band myself I’m 65 year old metal/rock but I love this band they really remind of the old garage bands just starting out finding their sound and they play so good for their age, just hope the industry doesn’t ruin them, I haven’t found a bad song/composition yet. If I hear a BandMaid song and I'm just "meh" I now know that a day later I am still hearing it in my head. I actually listen 3 more times and I'm hooked . . . One of the Top Ten along with 27 other BandMaid songs. Never had this with any other musicians!

Hi from the UK 😁. Strap yourself in for a wild ride. These ladies kick ass. They just finished the European leg of their World Domination tour and are playing the US later this year. I think they've sold out all their dates though. If you want more Band Maid anything from their Zepp Tokyo gig or their Studio coast gig is well worth a listen. I only heard them for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and I'm addicted!! I love their sound so much that I listen to them here and there throughout each and every day. I've ordered three of their albums, and I'm planning to buy the other three as well. These five amazingly talented women have given me many eargasms, and I'm looking forward to many more! They're my friggin CRACK!! As for being the best band in the world, I'm leaning toward that opinion more each day, but I'm sure I'll have a hard time shoving Iron Maiden into second place. @@DannymikReacts We Band-Maid fans are opinionated and vocal. We are biased towards this band and unapologetic for it. Band-Maid was never your standard idol created band. Miku attempted an entry level JPOP effort and to put it mildly it failed. She didn't even play a musical instrument. And she wound up working at Maid Cafés, a minimum wage job, just to survive. When she hooked up with her four friends they presented themselves to the corporate idol system executives who gave them a shot but had music written and arranged for them. Long story short Miku seized the opportunity and when her band had gained favorable reviews and some notoriety in Japan to get her lyrics and her bandmate's music recorded. Continuing success grants license to chart and run your own musical career. If they ever were JPOP that time is past. Band-Maid is a world class rock band that belongs to the world at large. After all Miku did not name the 2018 album Japan Domination, did she?

MISA! MISA! MISA! A large number of Western fans found Band Maid Because of Babymetal and a large number of us are fans of both groups. But to try and compare them is not really fair to either. Whereas Babymetal is a fusion Idol/Metal group, Band Maid is a straight up Rock group. Babymetal is more of a "Proformance Art" experience with world class choreography and backing instrumentals while Band Maid is holding the line in the greatest tradition of solid guitar rock! Thanks for reacting, I understand sort of why people compare them to BabyMetal but Band Maid are a Hard Rock band with hardcore, indie and funk influences. Both groups are great at what the do no need to compare just enjoy there music. Also J-Rock not really pop though they have a lot of musical influences. The vocalist is Saiki Atsume not Kanami Tono who is the lead guitarist and chief song writer. The other members are Misa (so good you have to say her name three times Misa. Misa, Misa) Akane Hirose (drums) and founder member Miku Kobato, Rhythm Guitar, Vocals, chief lyricist and small pigeon (Kobato in Japanese can be interpreted as small pigeon and Miku has never met a pun she didn't love) Five major releases in the six years they have been together 3 mini albums and two full albums. The rock scene in Japan is incredibly vibrant right now. Pretty much any sub-genre of rock you can imagine has representation, and the talent level is quite high. They're playing five shows in the USA at the end of September and beginning of October, but I think they're pretty much sold out. It's through Livenation, so there are a few of the Livenation price-gouge tickets left.

Man, Band-Maid, they make songs that everyone can shine, not just the vocalist or the guitar alone, as we usually see. They have a "flavor" with the drummer (Akane), the bassist (MISA) and the guitarist (Kanami), which we usually call the "call and response", sometime with the rythm guitarist (Miku) as well. You can find it in many songs by them, with or without vocal (Saiki) over the top. Danny, my guy! I'm familiar with J Pop and K Pop but not J Rock outside of aggretsuko (a cartoon I highly recommend you react to) so I figured I should check this. Best band out there. Can’t wait to see them again in September. I’m an old man that hasn’t spent money in decades until I ran across them last year. Check out whatever pops up when clicking through band maid videos. Fern Planet, Lovebites, Asterism, Doll$boxx, “Guita Rei” and tons of others. Their official videos have 10s of millions of videos. This one was pirated off their dvd. Grateful but surprised it was never taken down. It really shows how amazing they are.

Great reaction but as a huge fan of both Band Maid and Babymetal I do not like the continual comparisons/competition. They are totally different bands and styles of music. Interesting that the Kami Band (Babymetal’s musicians) and Band Maid are friends.

The story of this band is inspiring. Miku worked on a Maid Cafe (yes, that's why the name of the band) but wanted to be a rockstar, so she looked up on the internet for members to her band and created Band-Maid. If you wanna another good j-rock/j-metal band, check Bridear - Light in The Dark or if you want to see how they do live, the song Scream is the best one, in my opinion.

That is a fun little story that a few have told me about. When I first seen them in this video I had to do a double take of their outfits and then name came to mind. The Babymetal/Band-Maid preference usually comes down to your preference of metal or rock. There are a few babymetal tracks I think are great, but there's a good 20 or so Band-Maid songs that I think are as strong as this one. Play (live) is often recommended, because of the start. The studio version starts much quicker, but they always seem to play that extended intro live now. I'd recommend Freedom, Thrill, Real Existence, Choose Me, Alone, Turn Me On, Secret My Lips (followed by Secret Maiko Lips), Onset, Don't You Tell Me, Dice, Moratorium, Puzzle, Clang (hard to find live - bit it's about an hour into a 2-hour youtube clip somebody has up), Don't Let Me down, Non-Fiction Days, Matchless Gum, Domination, Gion-Cho (another Band Maiko version) Glory... That's 20 names you could put on a dart board to pick the next one ...and people will still wonder how I've missed certain songs off that list.

between the two currently, I prefer the Band-Maid sound. Baby Metal is kinda growing out(losing their baby-ish/cutish sound). Baby-metal's Kami band is still awesome though. Hope you did Onset Live by Band-Maid.

Band Maid sound a lot better in live than in studio version. Don´t get me wrong, they music in CD is awesome but in live there´s another level. You must hear "Take me Higher" because in this song there´s a fun battle between MISA (bass) and Kanami (lead guitar). I buy all the CD´s of Band Maid last year when i go to Japan to visit some friends, and i found a gauge of Band Maid popularity in Japan. In Japan when a CD is "sold out" is difficult to make new editions. Some CD are very expensive in the market because of this. I cannot buy her 1st CD because there´s very expensive, fortunately there was a reprint. In Japan music CD´s are about 2000 to 4000 yen (about 18 to 37 dolar). The 1st CD is selling now for about 58.800 yen (545 dolar, no joke). The reprint, the same CD but with another cover is only 1983 yen. There´s another big difference between Band Maid and Babymetal. Babymetal is an "idol group" (a sort of). A group made by a company who choose the girls, musicians, etc and put them together. Band Maid is a band, one formed by the guitar and backup voice Miku (the one with pigtails and white dress). The "maid" motive was because she works for some years part time in a maid café in Akihabara and she likes loud music so, why not to mix them?

Hello Gary! Here's the thing. I actually regret talking about the 2 bands and comparing them a little. There is no comparison other than that they are from Japan. Band-Maid covers all aspects of their performances... they aren't polished but their music sounds so good (if you know what I mean). I here to enjoy this band and that's what I'm going to do. Find Onset (Live). It's a pure instrumental piece where they really cut loose. Also for some similar but different bands, check out Aldious, Lovebites or Mary's Blood. All are female Japanese rock bands although some are a little more poppy they still have some great musicians.

I believe Band Maid falls under the Kawaii Metal category in Japan. MISA is a monster on the bass. I've heard that either the bassist or one of the guitarists originally made the song as a solo so the others could rest and everyone liked it so much they built a song around it.

I agree that it is NOT a fair comparison. Their style also has a different feel to them. In my opinion Band Maid gives me a fusion of rock/metal with a bit of punk to it. They also don't have that "polished" sound to them where Baby Metal does. Thank you for your view and comment :)

countless rock bands out there but B-M stands out for me as they complement their classically trained technical prowess (the kanami-akane-misa axis) & charisma with melodic eclecticism. and don't get me started on them as a titanic live act though i'd be at a loss for words just the same🎸
