Your perceptiveness is always perfection. What he told one reporter was that he didn't want every song to be a message because entertainment has to be considered.

Loved him all my 50 years of life. From 1960-68 he was in Hollywood making movies. He didn’t do concerts. 1968 was the first time in 10 years that he performed on stage since the army and Hollywood. What a comeback that was, then he was off to Vegas.

Elvis played in front of about 45,000 at each one of these shows at The Astrodome. The largest crowd he played in front of was around 70,000 at the Silverdome on New Year's Eve 1976 in Detroit.

Subtitles many times do not pick up words correctly. He was asked if he had ever seen the inside of THE building before -- meaning the Astrodome where he was going to perform. Elvis always did great interviews -- he was calm, soft spoken, honest & straight-forward no bull, wouldn’t answer anything of a political nature, was always respectful & not “full of himself” w-no attitude & no airs about himself -just a regular guy

He was asking if he had ever seen the inside of the building, meaning the Huston Astrodome which had just been completed and was humongous for the time.

Elvis was the kindest most generous charitable loving person with a passion for social and racial justice spirituality and karate. He was actually a 7th Dan black belt. He had a wicked sense of humour and at times a wicked temper too. There will never be another Elvis

Elvis was an honorary black belt. Do you think he would stand a chance against the likes of Bruce Lee and so many others?

@@naomiwarner7117 yes his 8th and 9th Dan were honorary so I don’t tend to include them 😊

@@MellyFuller all were honorary. any one who has done any form of martial arts, physical fighting is a must. there is no way the colonel was going to allow Elvis's face to be hit.

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 you’re wrong and obviously incapable of either researching even having been provided with a link to disprove you. Elvis was a 7th Dan black belt and has been indicted into the martial arts hall of fame. Try finding out the facts before arguing with somebody who obviously has taken the time to learn about him. As for your theory about the colonel Elvis was known for playing football with his guys extremely roughly would horse ride without a helmet go go karting motorbike riding in fact was a bit of an adrenaline junkie so try educating yourself rather than arguing your preconceptions of what you “think” must be the case as you’re obviously absolutely clueless

He had taken a break from that never-ending series of movies that at first were fantastic because they were really high quality and it allowed him not only to show that he could act but also to do a lot of the dance stuff that they were not willing to film him doing on television at the time. And then over time they just became a money-making Venture and he was basically getting taken by his corrupt manager. So it finally reached a boiling point and that's when he got out of that contract although he still stayed with that manager who continue to just exploit him basically. But that's when he did is 19 68 Comeback Special, meaning that he hadn't gone out of the public eye at all, it's just that he hadn't been doing live music performances in quite a long time. And this set off a whole nother era for him, where he had that TCB band and the backing vocalists and was in great shape and it's just a fantastic time. Check out more from his 1970 Vegas residency. He's in the white jumpsuit and they're plenty of KZbin clips from it and they are all fantastic. He also has his 1970 300 off from Honolulu satellite special that was broadcast over a billion people in the world, something that still hasn't really been matched.

As far as have you ever seen the inside of the building before, I'm pretty sure this was the interview leading up to his show at the then fairly new Houston Astrodome, which was huge for the time. I mean really huge. And so it's great that I was just kind of laughs and says well actually it scares me. This was also notably the show where he got the word that the black people in his band would not be welcome at the Astrodome and he could just leave them behind and apparently he got so angry he was throwing stuff around the room and even though this was going to be an absolutely huge appearance for him, he said that he wasn't going to do it if it couldn't have everybody in his band there. And so they finally caved in and then he doubled down on it and he put the Sweet Inspirations, his Black backing vocalists, in a convertible with an open-top with the light on them and the whole stadium could see that they were featured.

I grew up where we all said the thing about hey my ride's here! Whenever we heard cop sirens. But it's funny that he had the equivalent of it from back then, when there were sirens in the background very briefly he just instinctively said, what, are they coming for me? It's a good observation about the timing and the racial stuff. And even though the civil rights laws were passed, it really took a long time for that to sort itself out, if it ever really has. But I even lived in a town where when I was in grade school, they still had segregated swimming pools. And once the law passed, there was a lot of resistance to actually changing anything. The first start of the change was when they would allow black people into the pool around dinner time when most of the white people would go home to have dinner and then they would have to take enough time after the black people swim in it to completely clean the pool so that white people would feel safe going back into the water for an evening swim. And this is just in my lifetime.

He said “I wouldn’t want everything to be a message, there’s still entertainment to be considered. You totally screwed that up. Elvis, and mostly the Col. stayed far away from politics. He did two songs in his 23 year career with a message, If I could dream and In the ghetto. Elvis always said he wasn’t the king, there’s only one king, God, he never discussed politics and he said the reason for it was because he was strictly an entertainer not a politician. You need to listen again and not cut the end off. The people named Elvis The King of Rock, MJ named himself the King of Pop, that’s the difference. MJ copied off Elvis a lot. Elvis had a chimp named Scatter, MJ got one named Bubbles. Elvis’s home was named Graceland, MJ got Neverland. Look at Elvis’s early dance moves in the 50’s. MJ was very calculated, however, he was talented. Too bad he didn’t use his mind and money to do better things. While married to Lisa Marie Presley he use to tell her he felt he’d die the same way her father did. Strangely enough, the house MJ died in (which he rented) was right across the street from Elvis Presley’s Beverly Hills home. Coincidence? I doubt it.
