First time reaction to, "Epiphany", by BTS Jin(Ep.26 BTS Journey)

Epiphany is a hugely important BTS song. It's quite litterally saved the lives of many people, mine included. It dragged me out of a very dark place and inspired me to make some difficult but much needed drastic changes to my life. I've even seen people be inspired by it to get out of abusive situations as well. It'll always be my life mantra going forward. 💜 (Loved the Lennon reference btw - my username is another one. 🤭)

I can attest to this. This song helped me tremendously when I got out of an 11 year extremely abusive relationship. It still helps me, to this day. Jin went from being the maknae (youngest) in his family to being the oldest hyung (brother) in BTS. He's an introvert and doesn't want to be a bossy person so he leads them by keeping their spirits up and feeding them. He guides them off the stage and tells dad jokes. He's gone from being the son his mother didn't talk about to a worldwide star known and loved by millions. The space age piano he used in some performances was his idea. He didn't design it but asked for a non traditional piano and that's what they made for him. I admire him for learning to play that part on the piano when he hadn't played much if at all before and accompanying himself while he sang which I know from experience isn't easy. I think he feels that he isn't a deep thinker but he came up with the idea of making himself happy by making others happy which RM adapted when he told ARMYs to use them to bring ourselves happiness. He puts himself out to dress up in something funny at the end of concerts to make us laugh. He's very special to us all in ARMY. There's an mv for this and a behind the scenes video.

Jin was study acting when a staff from Big Hit saw him getting off the bus, beacuse off his looks she wanted him to join Big Hit, but had never singed or danced before, so he trained hard and look at him now. Amazing

Jin could actually fake play or not play the piano at all But insisted to learn the first verse. So proud of him. He has come a long way. No one could ever think that this guy didnt sing at all when he was first casted. And also didn't dance. All the members are very impressed with his progress. And so are we. They all have been praising Jin because over the yrs, he even become more stable singing when performing live. He intensely trained for this, i couldnt even imagine the hard work he put himself into ti hecome this amazing singer. Besides the impressive voice, he also acts during his performances. It also adds flavor and emotion to the song. The songs hit harder because of that. ❤️

This song didn't get air play in the USA because it's in Korean but it's certainly a huge hit for BTS. Jin's solo is the finale of sorts for their solo numbers during the Love Yourself Speak Yourself tour - 62 (sold out) concerts in 14 countries.

Mic Drop was the first video I watched, but Epiphany it the song that made me ARMY! I am 54yo ARMY mom who always put my family and work first and my self last. Jin & Epiphany gave me courage to start really looking out for myself! I started working with a personal trainer and started making changes at work where I was unhappy. After a little over 2 years, I’ve found a fulfilling position at work and have lost close to 60 lbs and have gained a tremendous amount of self confidence. Feel so fortunate to have a friend introduce me to BTS💜💜💜. Jin is such a beautiful human being inside & out! BTS did struggle to get American radio to play their songs so they did make some English lyric songs such as Dynamite, Butter, and Permission to Dance which got some airplay on American radio. But even when our radio stations weren’t playing them they still managed to get millions of American fans and who are strong Army that loves them and that is rather profound and a testament to their talent, meaningful lyrics, hard work, and staying kind and humble. I found them in fall of 2015 on KZbin and was an instant fan and I’m one of their older fans at 70 yrs old. These young men are so amazingly talented!! They bring me such joy and I’m grateful to them for that.

I've written this in the comment section many times but I'd write it again. I love JK's tone and stability of his voice, I love Jimin's uniqueness and high pitch, I love V's soulfulness and growls but Jin's voice is my favorite. I can also feel a soul in his voice and his tone of voice is my style. He's probably my bias among the vocalists (since my bias is a rapper) but I love all of them. I think all members are my bias in different ways like how Jhope is my bias in dancing. 😁

Jin is the only artist to receive a standing ovation for his song epiphany and also a song called awake by him by the Japanese army. And every time he performed this song, you hear that particular part "I'm the one I should love in this world, the shining and precious soul of mine" is sung by everyone in the stadium.

I saw this performance live. It's one of the best moment I had at a concert, and I have been to a lot of them. When you have an audience of 60.000 people singing together "I am the one I should love", it's powerful. Put Jin's voice on top of that, it's out of this world. The emotions we felt while singing along doesn't really transcend through the screen, but I would describe it as "beautiful". Everytime I listen to that song I relive those moments, and I am forever grateful to have that memory. It made Epiphany a very special song because of it.

Jin not only sings about loving yourself but he models the behavior to world. He has given himself the nickname WWH or World Wide Handsome and frequently gives himself pep talks. He focus's on his strengths and the things he does well and on the flip side, is honest with the things he needs to work on and strives to improve them but doesn't beat himself up about his weakness's. As a public figure he is normalizing speaking positively about yourself without being arrogant and it is inspiring because as humans we tend to fixate on our flaws and feel helpless and unworthy because we don't feel as though we can ever measure up to others which leads to a lot of mental health issues. He tells the world to love yourself including all your imperfections. This has influenced the way I view myself and I have changed my dialogue with my kids because of the lessons he and BTS have taught me. Rather than just tell them I think they are wonderful and great and perfect, which they don't believe and don't internalize, I now tell them they are perfectly imperfect. The meaning of this is that it is ok to not always be perfect but to be human and striving to be better is enough and that there is perfection in your imperfections because it makes you uniquely you. And also, I encourage them to give themselves credit for the things they do well. Jin and BTS taught me this.

As a professional musician, I think you would enjoy the musical "puzzle" of the song dyad Save Me/I'm Fine. BTS have several sets of paired songs, but this set is really interesting from a composition standpoint. Please listen to the lyric versions back to back BEFORE doing any research or watching the music video or live performances. If you look up the songs first, it will spoil the fun of making your own discovery.

You're right about the 7th, he's definitely a crooner, he got a nickname at one point of being the "silver voice", he has a way of making your eyebrows go up, you want to pat him on the head and give him a hug 🤗 he's Spectacular live, the most trained singer in BTS because he wasn't a singer when he got cast so he got to work, but super humble about himself in interviews, other than the world wide handsome shtick 😂 There are clips of the other members singing epiphany while he sits there and smiles, nobody can do that song justice like Jin, his range is bananas and I've never heard his break, there's always that note where you just need to switch from head to falsetto or chest to head, but I've heard him sing head where anyone else would be in falsetto etc, I have a very soft spot for this guy! I'm extremely sure the bending over is for show, he doesn't need to do that to get the note out, he's actually not straining at all, if he was his voice would be wrecked by now or he'd have nodules! Epiphany saved my life. That's all I have to say. This will forever be my favorite song by Jin, Jin saved my life. I heard it when my mental health was deteriorating at an incredibly fast rate during the pandemic; I was so close to making the biggest mistake of my life....then I heard this song. It still makes me cry, I know the words, I know what to expect from the song, yet to touches your heart....every. single. time. This song is so important, you can't even imagine the amounts of millions of lives this song saved, about self-love. You should watch some of their behind the scenes movies. They often literally walk of stage and then collapse. They sometimes dance while in extreme pain. They often cry when it's over if they felt they didnt do a good job. They really put in 200%

I remember the other members making fun of Jins suit post concert 😁 They were saying something about it looking like a flower vase dropped on him or something like that🤣 Of course they always tease him about the intense look he gives the camera! Thank you again for your thoughtful reaction. Love the details you point out about the music - I always learn something. Regarding songs being played in the US - none of them except the most recent few during the pandemic that were entirely in English (Dynamite, Butter and Permission to Dance) get any air play in the US - American radio stations won't play them because the songs are entirely/mostly in Korean (or Japanese for the ones that are in Japanese). But ARMY in the US supports the songs with streams and purchases. Wish Americans were more accepting/curious about music from other countries. Jin has often been underrated as a vocalist, but he's really come forward as a vocalist - he can really belt. He actually didn't know how to sing or dance when he joined BTS and had to learn from scratch. This song also has been inspirational for many people with its positive message.

Thanks for reacting to this song🤗BTS don't get lot of radio play, that is why Armys r always super energetic when it comes to sharing bts with others. When anybody dives into bts music without any prejudice or lets say with misconceptions too but atleast willing to go through it, we feel so happy as if we r heard. Bts really deserves every bit of fame nd respect they get coz in the times, when it's so easy to get famous by becoming clout chasers, talk about drugs, addiction, s*x or loose the essence when u reach the top...they really do a so damn good job to stick to their roots. Isn't it nice to see someone at top nd famous who r actually positive, nice people with brilliant artistry? 💜

Actually Jin wrote the song but bang pd the CEO tod him that it was way too dark and depressed so they ended up not adding his version to the final cut but on proof album they released his version that he wrote as a bonus track a alongside a lot of demo versions of their songs that the members made but weren't chosen by hitman bang

Was just watching another reactor (The Badass Times) watch the BTS Dynamite mv & he placed the word 'copyright' 3 times across the mv so it wouldn't get blocked. Thought you may want to look at it in case you may want to try that so you won't bel blocked.

Holy Borahae! You've done it again! From 134340 to now, 'Epiphany'! Every song or performance you've reacted to has been enjoyable and entertaining. Of course, ARMY doesn't miss. You're very smart to use polling to find out what we want. It's great when you pause and rewind at parts that you like because I wanted to watch those bits, again myself. Keep up the good work! You mentioned something about the song probably not being played on the radio in North Georgia, where you live. It's the same, all over the US, even in the SF Bay Area. You'd figure if BTS is going to be played anywhere in the US, it would be California, definitely San Francisco Bay Area! But they don't. The only BTS song I've heard being played regularly was 'Dynamite'. Even 'Butter' and 'PTD' were not played often. Only in LA, were they have a KPop radio station, have I personally heard BTS and other KPop artists. The reason is more than just xenophobia. The biggest reason I heard, is something called, "payola." Apparently, record labels pay local DJs money to give their artists more spins. They can be paid thousands depending on the number of spins, even if listeners didn't request the song. Other songs, like Epiphany or Mic Drop, don't get any air time even if they are requested, because the Korean Labels don't pay payola!

I have tried to think of the song this one reminds me of for a while now. While watching tonight, what came through my mind was Paul McCartney & Wings. Not sure of the song. But, I'm thinking I may at least have the timeline right. Please let us know if you figure it out 😁 And, just so you know, while watching, most of us have both vocal & movement reactions. Just to give you a note to what album Epiphany is on which is Love yourself answer. As of June 2021, the album has remained on the Billboard's main albums chart for 100 non-consecutive weeks, making it the first and currently only Korean album to do so.[9] It was a little but upsetting to hear you say it could not be a hit because it is not english, but as you can see by the album which also is not in English how it did in the US charts, language is not a barrier when it comes to BTS and you should remember this.

Sorry last comment, Jin can go higher by the way. Have you checked out their Japanese release Crystal Snow? That high note is all Jin. Just something I want to recommend if you want to keep getting blown away by his vocals
