Jonny Lang was 15 years old at the time. To be able to sing and play guitar with some authority at such a young age is amazing!

He reminds me of Stevie Ray Vaughan in the way he plays and how intense and passionate he is.

Oh man lol, nothing like classic Jonny Lang. Him singing like this at 15 you already knew he was bound for greatness and that's why people are still talking about him to this day.

This is a 16yr Old Johnny Lang, The entire album is phenomenal, Started playing at at young age and his Father new a Blues Guitar player with a Band he enjoyed because he is from like North Dakota, Fargo, Theres not a whole lot of Blues out there, so he asked him to give him some lessons and when he showed up with his Guitar and songs he wanted to learn (Metallica, Van Halen) he was like "Yeah, as he threw them aside and said "yeah I got this".. that was at 13, 3yrs Later this album came out, But at this time now he won't be singing anytime soon, he did damage to his voice that he may not recover from.. Great Reaction!

Oh, yah. Around here, we knew him as Kid Johnny Lang, when he was a local and regional phenom playing small clubs and venues who hadn't yet been discovered by a national audience. He was about 15 when he recorded this.

Johnny is Absolutely Amazing and to think he was 15-16 years old when this was recorded & released Mind Blowing 😮😮😮

He didn't really study under the greats. But his dad said he'd come home from school and go in his room and listen to them. That is talent looking for a way to get out of a gifted soul. He had it at a young age and the fact that he's from Fargo and not Memphis or Nawlins' is pretty incredible too. Love it! Awesome Tasha!!!

The woman in black singing background is Rebecca Bramlett. She is the daughter of Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett who are awesome recording artists. So she came by her voice honestly.

Jonny was a younger artist and vocalist during the "Lie to Me" era. Time, age, environment, vocal and musical training as artists change, go through vocal changes, sing in smokey environments, open air environments - all change your vocals over time. Many of the early blues singers, which both Jonny and many listened to, sang with a deep, rich gutteral sound which often comes with throaty vocals. Many rock singers have done the same only to find as they get older, there are pitches one can no longer hit, dead space, throaty sounds, that are no longer available to them. It is always an ugly, touch pill to swallow, but a lot can be "recoverable" with expert training, exercises, creativity and a really good vocal music coach. Nodes on the vocal chords can also develop. I have no doubts that he is and will continue to progress...he is not just a vocal artist, but also a music and guitar artist. There are many vocal artists that have learned new methods well into their later years to still "bring it" and Jonny still can. Life always brings opportunity for those who seek it out and want it bad enough. Love his music, love his artistry, then and now. Thank you for sharing him!! Feeling the music like that, never fades.

Since you like Johnny Lang, check out Kenny Wayne Shepherd. I recommend Blue On Black, True Lies, Somehow Somewhere Someway, I Found Love, Nothing To Do With Love, or my personal favorite, a Dylan tune he covered, Everything Is Broken.

Can you please dive into another great guitarist as well? Kenny Wayne Shepherd is very similar to Johnny Lang. Both of them started at extremely young ages on the music scene because of their other worldly talents. Kenny I think is a shade more famous, and you might have already done his biggest hit "Blue On Black". You can't go wrong playing more songs from these two because, well, you just heard why. Again, some Kenny Wayne please.

One of the more interesting phenomenons in American musical culture was that blues nearly died in the 1960-70s as strain of music when younger African Americans turned away from it, calling it "old people's music"--only to be electrified & merged w/rock by mostly white performers like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Wasn't purely "cultural appropriation", either. The resurgence of blues as a genre, particularly w/a non-black audience, helped older, almost forgotten black blues singers prosper. Johnny Winter (one of the few white performers in the Blues Hall of Fame), should get particular credit w/raising money for older blues performers who had been cheated out of royalties & were down on their luck at the end of their lives.

JONNY LANG CANCELS ALL CONFIRMED APPEARANCES Over the course of the past year, medical challenges with his voice have not improved. There is hope for a natural recovery at some point in the future but until progress is witnessed no future plans will be initiated.
