Brighton was a popular coastal resort (still is but has lost it's early-mid century charm) with amusements, rides, and all the noises that come with such a destination. Jimmy & Jenny have a holiday fling but she must quickly return home before her mum finds out. Her infatuation lingers and she writes countless love letters to Jimmy. Spoiler alert: Jimmy's married. ("Oh no, now I'm compromised, I Must apologize if my lady should discover how I spent my holidays.") Now, you must listen to "Seaside Rendezvous" (lyric version). It will definitely put a smile on your face! (Brighton Rock is also a popular candy.) 👑

"Flick of the wrist" and "Death on two legs" are Queen songs about thier old manager, Freddie at his most Vitriol. You could try Freddie singing opera with Montserrat Caballe, Barcelona, The Golden Boy, How can i go on, La Japonaise, to name some from the album. I am not an Opera lover but this shows Freddies true genius.

Queen got smacked by several reviews saying there was just too much diversity in their albums. Yeah, and that is one of the reasons I enjoy them. Rock, glam, prog, pop, vaudeville, music hall, funk, r&b, waltz, jazz, blues, lullabies, song w/different languages, anthem rock, stadium rock, rock-a-billy, mock opera, and anything else I missed. It is all there. And more. Enjoy.

At almost every Queen gig, Brian played his solo of Brighton Rock but extended sometimes for 10-12 minutes, immersed in the sound of his Red Special, delays and everything. At one gig Freddie became impatient backstage because Bri was lost in his solo and it took too long for Freddie. He shouted: For f*** sake, will this ever end? Let's go shopping! 😂😂 Ratty (Peter Hince, Freddie's and John's roadie and the head of Queen's crew) remembered how Brian recorded his solo part of BR in a studio, where part of walls were covered with long artificial furr for the sound not to be compromised and they called the place a cow's shed.😅 Brian was there playing take after take on his 🎸 and Ratty joked that it sounded like a Tibetan cow giving birth 😮🙃... After a while Queen and crew got out to lunch and Brian told them that he will make just a few more takes and then he will join them. Ratty said that when they returned two hours later, that Tibetan cow was still in labour ... 🙃😁🤣

The name is a pun on the stage name of glam rock star Gary Glitter and the metallic yarn Lurex. Songs 'I Can Hear Music and Going Back...

You two are so endearing. I’m an avid Queen fan but this song? It ever made my playlist. Understand. Even early on, Queen never cared about being musically safe. They tried EVERYTHING! Their song, “Seaside Rendezvous”finds Freddie and Roger using their voices as instruments during the musical break and tapped the mixing board with thimbles they wore on their fingers to emulate the sound of tap dancing. I love that song. And, I’m 81 years old! You’ll see Brian shooting out sparkles from his guitar during, “A Kind of Magic” video and I won’t even give you any hint about what happens in, “The Miracle” video. Fasten your seatbelts. Yes! 1974! You know how I feel about early 70s Queen!… This was Brian‘s showpiece for the live shows. Also understand when you’re hearing him play by himself and it sounds like three guitars that’s just him playing recorded with two echoplex machines. Which means he’ll play a note and it gets repeated back to him two times so he can play harmony with himself… And yes, that’s Freddy doing all of the lead vocals just going into his high falsetto which he couldn’t as easily do in the 80s… More 70s Queen please! If you haven’t done it do the official video for Tie Your Mother Down! Sorry for all the exclamations but early ‘70s queen is killer 😊

First... the song's title is a play on words. Brighton is a seaside resort on the South coast of England. It has a famous pier with an amusement park at the end (hence the music during the first few seconds) . It is also famous for 'a stick of Brighton rock' which was and is a traditional 'gift' to take home from your holiday to give to your friends. (Google 'Brighton Rock sweet' to see what that is). Yes, it's Freddie using his falsetto.. then sliding down to his natural voice. I love Mrs Coach's reaction! It was almost exactly the same as mine, the first time I heard it. Such a fun song! They did play the song live, but the only video I can find is a nine minute interlude of Brian's solo - all the other Queen members leave the stage to allow him the spotlight... it gave me goosebumps... kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y56ZanWoq6-BnMk

Freddie introduces it with a champagne saying: Right now we like to feature a very well known fireplace that hangs around Mr. May's neck 🤣and is also known as his 🎸... 🤣😜 (the neck of Brian's Red Special was made from a 100 years old fireplace mantle that the friend of the family was about to throw away 😮) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmq7np94fa6CrLcsi=l-zlbG8NNej-2_8V

The song hinges around a late 19th early 20th century story which was commonplace after the arrival of the railways in to towns and cities. During the summer entire towns would more or less shut down for a weeks holidays. In the north west of England these were called wakes weeks. The book The Hindle Wakes follows this theme of a young woman getting into "trouble" after meeting a gentleman whilst on holiday in a seaside town. There were also many Sunday school and church outings and works outings where the organisation would hire a train for a day to go to the seaside. Similar themes occurred here too. It's worth looking for Brian May guitar solo and Roger Taylor drum solo as they both did these amazing solos live. Brian's was based around Brighton Rock. Make sure it's 70s or 80s to get the best ones. Incidentally, the harsh grating sound you hear from Brian's guitar is made by using the serrated edge of a sixpenny piece. Brian always favoured using the sixpenny piece over a plectrum.

As I think someone has mentioned already, the definitive version (in my opinion) is the live version on the Live Killers album. There's even a percussion timpani solo that splits two Brian guitar solos that showcase his use of the delay which allows him to construct on the fly an end product which is 3 Brian Mays all playing at the same time.

The song features one of Queen's longest guitar solos which is more than three minutes long. The solo has been performed live by Brian May at most concerts since its release. Brighton is in East Sussex, England, on the south coast. Rock (often known by its place of origin, for instance Blackpool rock or Brighton rock) is a type of hard stick-shaped boiled sugar confectionery most usually flavoured with peppermint or spearmint. It is commonly sold at tourist (usually seaside) resorts in the United Kingdom (such as Brighton, Southend-on-Sea, Scarborough, Llandudno or Blackpool) and Ireland (e.g. Bray and Strandhill); in Gibraltar; in Denmark in towns such as Løkken and Ebeltoft; and in Sydney and Tasmania, Australia. Wikipedia. Rock usually has the town name written thru the whole stick which you can see if you look at each end.

Sorry so late commenting but I apparently missed this one. “Brighton Rock” tells the story of two young lovers, Jenny and Jimmy, meeting in Brighton on a public holiday. Brighton Beach, a one-hour train trip south of London, is known for its wholesome family appeal. It was written by Brian. The lyrics are sarcastic: there’s a large gap to the final punch line. Jenny dreads her mom’s reaction, and Jimmy is even more apprehensive. He fears his wife’s reaction. The guitar solo is considered to be one of the greatest of all time. Originally, the solo was played during live renditions of an earlier song. The song primarily highlights Brian’s solo guitar mastery, playfully serious and intensely diverse. The track ends riffing abruptly. It rocks you. Brian May has commented, "I’d already been trying [the solo] live on stage in the middle of ‘Son and Daughter,’ when Queen first toured with Mott the Hoople. It was rather crude at first. But I certainly had a lot of fun with it." Brian’s response when asked about Hendrix's influences on ‘Brighton Rock' was, "There might be although, I’d got away from listening to Hendrix quite a bit by that time and I’d like to think that that was more sort of developing my style really. Particularly the solo bit in the middle, which I’d been doing on the ‘Mott The Hoople’ tour and sort of gradually expanded and has gotten more and more ever since. Although I keep trying to throw it out it keeps creeping back in. That involves the repeat device actually using it in time, which I don’t think, had been done before up to that time. It’s a very nice device to work with because you can build up harmonies or cross-rhythms and it’s not multiple repeats like Hendrix used or even The Shadows used, which is fairly indiscriminate, and sort of makes a nice noise. But this is a single repeat, which comes back, and sometimes I’ll add a second one too. So you can actually plan or else experiment and do a sort of “Phew” type effect. So that was at its very beginnings on ‘Brighton Rock’, and became more developed after that." FYI - Brian did all the background vocals, and Roger didn't sing at all on "Bright Rock"

Brian doesn’t have any delays built into his guitar. He used to have a fuzz box installed in it way back at the beginning but it was removed, and the hole for the switch was covered with tape, that hole in the scratch plate is now covered with a mother of pearl Brian May star. He also doesn’t use a filed down coin. He uses a 1947 English six pence coin as it is, because of the serated edge, which is where he gets a lot of sounds from, that scratchy noises you always here, this is due to Brian using the serated edge

Hello Mr & Mrs Coach. There is a good live version of this song on an album called Live Killers. From the late 70s early 80s. Yes I understand your shock with regards the song. But hey you always say Queen are the different with every song you hear. May I suggest you do reactions to some more early songs such as Liar.

They are definitely always surprising us, and this definitely did that. "Liar" live is on the channel now. Thank you for watching and taking time to leave a comment!

@CoachCastTV will always leave a comment both to show my support of your channel & also because I enjoy watching your reactions to Queen. There is still plenty more for you to discover & enjoy. I will also suggest you try to find something from the Knebworth concert of 1986. As this was the final concert Queen did. The crowd is massive as well

We truly appreciate that! We'll keep that in mind for a future reaction as well.

I am a huge Queen fan and have everything they have done, however this is the only one of their songs that I can’t listen to. The only one. It is literally headache producing for me. There is a reason it is rarely played. I love that you two were honest about it like you promised you would be. Next…..

I think all the vocals on this version are freddy, not really my personal taste but your reaction , particularly mrs coach reaction was brilliant, nearly enjoyed it as much as she did.

School house rock? What an insult to such a fantastic band.

Watch our Queen playlist, you'll see we have respect for the band. This song is a bit over the top, and even many Queen fans admitted that.

I can tell you a little story: when I bought the cassette 30 years ago, I put it in my walkman rightaway. On the escalator I heard the beginning of Brighton Rock and was like wtf and immediately put another tape on. It was months, maybe even year later, that I finally dared to go back to the album. I was into Queen already back then buying all of their catalogue.
