By far the most requested song on our channel at the time of filming this video, Queen's "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal.
We don't want to spoil it, but you probably already know how we're going to react. This is one of the best musical performances of all time in our opinion. This is one we definitely agree on.
Freddie Mercury is fantastic as always, but Roger Taylor stole this show for us. Wow! What a performance. John Deacon and Brian May also played their parts to perfection. We understand why this was the #1 requested video now.
Video used in this reaction: • Queen - Somebody To Lo...
This is a reaction video for the purposes of comment, criticism, and education about the song and artist. We believe these videos provide additional free exposure to new audiences for the artist and will drive additional views to the original video.

WOW!!!! This is by far THE best reaction for this song in all of KZbin! You didn’t make all the right noises in your comments to please the viewers, your total appreciation of this performance shone through and was genuine. What I’m most thrilled to hear is your recognition of the fabulous voice and drumming of Roger Taylor. Most reactors just concentrate on Freddie, who is wonderful, but you give credit where credit is due, so I’ve now subscribed to your channel and look forward to many more Queen videos. My suggestion for you to react to is “White Queen”, live at Hammersmith Odeon, 1975. It’s mesmerising! ❤🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

First of all, your comment about the reaction is humbling and much appreciated. I assure you the reaction was genuine, and even after watching this several times during editing, I can say that we're both still impressed by their performance here. When I watch Roger playing the drums and singing I wonder where he finds the energy, it is not like he is taking a slow slap at the skins, he is all in and singing through this entire song. You can see him take really deep breaths to be able to do it all. Roger Taylor, drums, great falsetto, Brian May, great guitarist who made his own guitar as a teen, also great backup vocals & lower vocals, John Deacon, great bass, some vocals but great at electronics, all with degrees and very smart and talented to the gills. Brian is an Astro-physicist, Roger went for dentistry, Freddie went to art school, graphic design. John was an electronics engineer. Poor Freddie, greatest vocalist ever. He even sang opera with Monseratte Caballe. All their live performances are awesome. Roger and Brian have and have had their own solo recordings, along with Freddie having his own. Sigh.

There was a little beer there too as was said for John, but Freddie would take a sip of it in the long break for Bohemian Rhapsody (live they never tried to fake it, the middle section was a studio creation so the band would go off while the recording played and the lights and effects did the rest, then they'd come back on for the last section), and near the end of the show when the open beer had gone a little flat. And if you watch some of the interviews with Freddie, he's drinking beer. In recent years many have made him out to be this high class aloof type person who only drank champagne, and whilst he did enjoy the finer things in life, he always enjoyed some beer. Including a few sips onstage along with his honey tea.

I was going to mention this song's gospel roots. @CoachcastTV -- although their live performances are generally the best, it's absolutely worthwhile to watch the official video of this song (whether you react to it or not) for the strong gospel sound. In the studio they could do some looping and layering of voices, and although it doesn't have the vocal pyrotechnics this live performance does, the gospel choir feeling is its own kind of awesome. Freddie was a big fan of Aretha Franklin, and this song is his tribute to her.

This popped up in my timeline for reasons only understood by the designers of KZbin algorithms, so I decided to rewatch it. While doing so, I was reminded of a story about this performance you might find interesting. It is a clear example of what a tight, finely-tuned performing group Queen was.. Today, most performers wear earbuds from which they receive cues and messages while performing but that wasn't the case in 1981. Queen had to rely on visual cues from each other and trust between them. But that was no problem since they had played together so often that they could read each just by looking at each other. This incident occurred when Freddie got up from the piano the second time during "Somebody To Love". As Freddie glides to the center stage, he glances over towards left stage and sees Brian's back as he head upstage to the left back corner on the stage. Apparently, Brian had a problem he needed to take care of. I don't what the problem was except I know it wasn't as just a broken guitar string. As all guitar players know, guitar strings do break and usually as the most imopportune moment. But Brian ( and John) were prepared since they always had a backup guitar tuned and ready to go. If Brian had a broken sting he would have simple switched to the backup which would take less than a minute to do and he didn't. (The backup for Brian's Red Special was not red but blond in color in 1981). Freddie knew that he couldn't continue on with the song but would have to continue to entertain the audience until Brian could return to performing. After a few minutes of enteracting with the audience, Freddie looks over his left shoulder towards Brian for a couple of beats, When he turns back toward the audience, he immediately begins the chorus of the song, "Find me somebody to love, Find me somebody to love". Brian is then seen walking up to his microphone perfectly timed to reach his microphone just in time to sing.

Liked & subscribed because you said you will do more Queen! Great reaction to the best band ever& thank you for giving kudos to Roger Taylor, his ability to sing & play drums so phenomenally is second to none! In any other band he would have been the lead singer! Freddie didn’t drink beer on stage usually, he said it would be disrespectful to the audience if he burped, he normally would drink tea with honey for his voice! The beer was for the other band members & for advertising! You must do Queen’s set at Live Aid ( please!) it’s 21 mins wisely regarded as the best live performance ever, you won’t regret it I promise! Thank you again, love from Australia 🇦🇺

Now that I know you're in love with Roger Taylor, please watch this same song in the Queen Official Video Studio version. Because you'll hear how the song was released with so many rich harmonies the band can't duplicate live on stage. Those Roger high vocals! Woo. Plus it's fun to see the lad, all young and everything, in what looks like their 'recording session' of this song. (It's really worth a peek)

So “Watching them” back then, we didn’t get to do that much unless you saw them live. We had albums and radio. All these great songs live is awesome to see but the whole other side of Queen is what monsters they were in the studio! All the harmonies, yes even the BALLADS are just phenomenal! What you may loose from their studio work, they make up for being monsters on stage!!!!

Thank you for reacting so enthusiastically to my second-favourite live Queen performance of all time. My absolute favourite being their twenty minute set for Live Aid at Wembley, in London in 1985. I have loved Queen since I saw the official video of Bohemian Rhapsody broadcast on the BBC pop music programme 'Top of the Pops' in 1975. (You really should check that out too. It's phenomenal). In case you didn't spot it, if you look back at the second time Freddie jumps up from the piano, he sees Brian May (lead guitar - now Sir Brian May PhD, the author and astrophysicist) heading to the back of the stage with a broken string, and so he extends his interaction with the crowd - and tells Roger (drums) and John (bass) to "keep it going", until he sees Brian returning. Thank you for picking up on Roger's awesome ability to continue with the epic drumming, never missing a beat, while singing his heart out. Oh, and the beer bottle is a product placement. The brown liquid in Freddie's cup is tea with lemon and honey to lubricate and soothe his throat through a concert that might last up to two hours. ♥ New subscriber, hoping to follow you down the Queen rabbit hole as you discover more of my favourite band.

Roger Taylor in the top ten of singing drummers. I liked Queen when I saw them on TV in 1974 for Killer Queen. I finally got to see the boys live either side of this Montreal gig, in London in 1980, and in Leeds and Milton Keynes UK 1982. They did this song on those tours, and all their other classics. They were at the peak of their live shows in 1980, 1981, and 1982. I was lucky to see them again in 1984 and though they were still amazing (a Queen gig was always top quality), I thought this era was the best. They were also officially the biggest band in the world in this brief period, on sales alone, once they got really big in the US after The Game album 1980 with the songs Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Another One Bites The Dust. Queen were special live, something about them, obviously all great musicians, with three singing voices. But it was the tightness and the chemistry. Plus they were loud! And at times heavy! They could rock out with the best of the heavy bands. But they also had all this subtlety and variation in their music. For years I was trying to get people to try out more Queen beyond the hit singles, and to go see them live, but in the 80s and on it was yeah yeah, they are old style, and history, we've heard it all. But they hadn't! Now, largely due to the movie (and reaction channels!), there's a new generation of fans who have come to appreciate them. Freddie would be amazed at how much bigger they've become over the decades since his passing. And I'm sure he would have loved it. He always said he hoped people would remember him for his music.

Great comment. Yes, we heard their songs in the 80s but at the time it wasn't music that really appealed much to either of us, so we never sought out more. Now that we are older (and perhaps wiser) we realize that this music is special, and so is this band. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Hopefully we can bring this music to more people who don't know much, or anything, about this band.
