2:52 The quite literal translation of Du Hast Mich is "You have me." However, with German being German, there is also the word Haßt (Hasst), which is pronounced with a minor inflection over the ß, which means "hate." It is an intentional double meaning, "You have me," and/or "you hate me."

I wish I knew them then, I would have definitely gone to a concert. The atmosphere is incredible.

Some common Rammstein songs that most people react to are as follows from Madison Square Garden 2010 - Rammleid, Ich Tu Dir Weh, Engel, Weißes Fleisch .... From Wacken 2013 - Wiener Blut....from Hurricane festival 2013 - Mein Teil and from Hurricane festival 2016 - Ich will....from Download festival 2016 - Links 2 3 4 and Sonne..... From live in Paris 2017 - Wollt Ihr das Bett in Flammen Sehen and Mutter. Also thier 2019 and 2023 Stadium concerts are EPIC! Songs such as Feuer Frei, Mein Herz Brennt, Mein Herz Brennt(piano version), Ohne Dich, Angst, Zeit, Armee der Tristen, Adieu and Zick Zack are usually reacted to at the beginning. Also ALL songs from literally the BEST Rammstein Concert is from @VÖLKERBALL 2005 both from Nîmes, France and London, England are absolutely AMAZING!! Songs such as Asche zu Asche, Morgenstern, Los, Sehnsucht, Reise Reise, Stripped, Rein Raus, and Stein um Stein are IMO the Best live performances... both Völkerball concerts are a must see 😍❤

Nice reaction. 👍 And welcome to the rabbit hole of Rammstein. The band was founded in 1994 and is still on stage and - from time to time - in the studios. Their last album "Zeit" came out 2022. Their shows are literally fire. 🔥 The lyrics of this song in a nutshell: The first three words are "Du hast mich" (you have me) which at that moment doesn't make any sense in German. But it sounds (intentionally) the same as "Du hasst mich" (you hate me). Later in the song, the first three words are extended to a full sentence: "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt." (You asked me and I did not answer.) And then, to show what he was asked, the chorus is a wedding vow: "Willst Du bis der Tod euch scheidet treu ihr sein für alle Tage?" (Do you want to be faithful to her for all days until death do us part?) This is answered first by a kind of female voice "Ja" (yes) and afterwards by Till's harsh voice "Nein!" (No!). These - plus a slightly obscene word play on the wedding vow, that I will not explain here - are the whole lyrics (repeated a few times). As mentioned in the "making of" of that song it's about the connection within the band. They never had a line-up change since their start in 1994. The lead gitarrist once said, the band is like a marriage without sex. As you start to be addicted to Rammstein, I have a "few" suggestions. If you want to see more of their (incredible) live performances I would suggest Rammlied (live from Madison Square Garden) Engel (live from Madison Square Garden) Sonne (live at Rock im Park 2017) Links 2 3 4 (live from Madison Square Garden) Ich will (live from Hurricane Festival 2016) Ich tu dir weh (live from Madison Square Garden) (don't take the lyrics too serious) Sehnsucht (live in Nimes, France, 2005 Volkerball tour) Feuer Frei! (live from Madison Square Garden) Benzin (live from Madison Square Garden) Mein Teil (live at Hurricane Festival 2013) Wollt Ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen (live from Paris) Frühling in Paris (live from Paris) Los (live from Völkerball, Nimes, 2005) Amazing official videos Sonne (Sun) heavy, screwed up fairy-tale Links 2 3 4 (left) partly heavy march Ich will (I want) heavy, simple, way to celebrity Spring! (Jump!) (fan-made animated version with english subtitles) slow, partly heavy, very dark sarcasm! Radio (Radio) catchy song (with serious background) Keine Lust (not in the mood) heavy, funny, slidely sad Mein Herz brennt (My heart burns) (official video, whole band) scary, nightmarish, very special Mein Herz brennt (My heart burns) (official video, Till & piano) scary, nightmarish, different mood Amerika (America) catchy, not a love song Mein Land (My land), sounds & looks like easy living (unless you look at the slightly developing of the lyrics) Ohne Dich (without you) melancholic, Till singing softly Amour (love (French)) lyric video Newest official videos from their last album "Zeit" in sequence of the tracks on the album: Zeit (Time) slow, dark, melancholic, emotional Zick Zack (Snip Snap) catchy song, sarcastic, funny Angst (Fear) very Rammstein, scary, credits at the end are helpful to understand the message Dicke Titten (Big Boobs) heavy (most of the time), catchy, funny, credits are funny too (my view) Adieu (Goodbye) dark, sometimes heavy, emotional Last but not least the great (but not nice) video "Deutschland" which has a lot of references to (mostly unpleasent) parts of German history. Video, lyrics, and sound are great (my view) and work very well together. To get less confused, watch the version with English subtitles from "educated marine". I wish you to enjoy your Rammstein journey. And as you said, you've never heard such a deep voice, I have two additional (and completely different) rabbit holes for you to dive in: Geoff Castellucci - Sixteen Tons kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKvPhWtmn7ZmotE VoicePlay (acapella group where Geoff is part of) - OOGIE BOOGIE'S SONG | The Nightmare Before Christmas kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5PbnIKkqd9liaM I'm curious to see your reactions. 🥸

If you love crowd interaction, you should check out "In Livstid I Krieg" by Sabaton (Live from Gothenburg). A TRULY moving song with a TON of crowd interaction. As far as Rammstein, after an incident in the mid 90's most, if not all of the band became licensed pyrotechnitions. This means that the normal "sounds cool but is it safe" buffer that the normal pyro guy would insert, they just do it, since they know what they are doing.

Ramstein is the larger of two districts of the city of Ramstein-Miesenbach in the Kaiserslautern district in Rhineland-Palatinate. The place gained national fame through the Ramstein airbase located in its area, the bomb attack on it in 1981 and the air show accident that occurred there in 1988. The airbase “Ramstein” only has one “m” in its name. According to Paul Landers, it was a mistake that they spelled the name “Rammstein” with two “ms”. Then the newly formed band used the name “Rammstein” and it stuck. (Why the Rammstein members came up with the name Rammstein remains their secret!)

Till Lindemann is a symphonic baritone, a fairly rare voice outside of opera. He did spend a few years studying with an opera teacher, which he says he hated. He definitely has one of the most recognizable voices in rock music. He can go really hard (Wiener Blut and Buckstaabu) or beautifully melodic (Mann Gegen Mann, Ich Tu Der Weh). Every member of Rammstein is an artist. Collectively, they are musically and artistically in a league of their own.

I'm not seeing any comments on the language here... Not a native German speaker, but I have college proficiency. One of the features of German is that verbs are always placed at the end of a grammar chain -- so double entendre's are VERY easy to pull off: "Du hast mich" can mean two things = "You hate me" or "You have _____ me." The latter assuming the verb hasn't been revealed. Thus, "Du hast mich GEFRAGT" = "You have ASKED me." There is an intended tension between hatred and relationship. This is doubled by the use of language from the marriage liturgy: "Will you be faithful and true for all your days until your death?" followed up by "Yes... No... Yes... No..." The answers are reinforced by their delivery. "Ja" (Yes) the high electronic voice, "Nein" (No) by the whole band deep in their chests. As others have already commented, this is a reflection of the band's familial quality and their close knit relationships. The decision between love and hate, faithfulness and abandonment, is a simple one, but it has enormous consequences. They have a tendency to dig deep into the specifics of the German language and exploit them for artistic effect -- and VERY WELL I might add. It's not a bug, it's a feature (one that Mark Twain noted in "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court). It's especially interesting given that metal usually (not always) has a limited field of emotional expression from a MUSICAL standpoint. Their language use breaks that barrier beautifully.

The important of the lyric is that the german language has dobble sense spoken: du hast means either but also And in the text are also some differences -will you say together tioll the daeth will seperate you- > but also - which means -till the death of the vigina- So that mostly not known by the crowed.

Oddly enough pertaining to this video, it was Ramstein AFB. I decided to take a four day pass in Paris. The solid front of rudeness I experienced was outrageous. Restaurants, hotels, cabbies and cafe's, all were rude bordering on antagonism. One night while waiting for an hour for my glass of wine with a scenic view of Notre Dame, I asked my waiter if they were crushing the grapes in the back, as I had seen several people who had been seated later than I, served immediately. I noticed a couple speaking German, and they were served and treated very nicely. I asked them if they spoke English, they both said yes, I asked them if they had experienced blatant rudeness from various French vendors. They answered no, but added they always spoke German, never English, and that they also understood French and spoke it as well. They also added that the French don't seem to have issues with English speakers from the UK, just Americans. I asked them if they had any idea why this was the case. They suggested it was passive aggressive envy or something. The Germans and I had a nice visit, and I finally got my wine order. My grandparents spoke fluent German, and I learned Bavarian German from them. That wine order was the last time I spoke English to the irritating snobby French, from then on I only spoke German and never had another issue. Weird Huh?

Ramstein is an American military airbase in southern Germany where there was a horrific accident at an air show and many people died. Their first song was about this horror. They changed the spelling a bit making it (literally translates as ramming stone) and took it as their name

This band came out in an era of music I called Industrial metal. There were others at the time like the Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Crystal Method, and even some of Nine Inch Nails’ music is industrial it came out right toward the end of the 90s and early 2000s. It’s not blood on him, it’s fire retardant because of all the pyro they do on stage. The lead lead singer is certified in Oreo and he’s not afraid to use it. With the crowd participation you’d probably like Megadeth’s Symphony of Destruction live the fans get after it

A Ramstein was/is a large stone primarily used for ramming enemy gates during a seige. However, being huge fans of double entendre, they use the name RAMMSTEIN, which is the name of a city in Germany in which a famous Air Force disaster occured.

Hi Stacy "Du Hast Mich" means "You Hate Me"... Those words are getting deepened out, and colored by the performance, so in the end it could mean "You Love Me"... Personally I think that Ramstein their darkest song ever is "Stein um stein" where the band exposes Love as posession... Stein=stone so the lyricks are saying how he bild a house for his loved one, however without windows or doors + he put her feet in the concreet from the foundation... Another song very worth while calls :"Mein Herz Brent" (my heart burns)... Heavy stuff... 🙃

This is a legendary band. I'm Dutch but speak german as well. Being a metal band singing in German and even chauvanistic europeans like French people singing a long, thats' an accomplishment. FYI check out the original Mein hertz brennt video and then listen to the piano version. What a singer he is.

German offers some grammar structures that aren't possible in English. For example it is possible to add on the primary verb at the end of the sentence. Till often plays on the homophone differences in German. The verb "to have" in its base form is "haben". It's conjugation second form singular for "you" is "du hast". The homophone here is that "du hast"/"you have" and "du hasst"/"you hate" sound almost identical, or in stage pronunciation that Till uses, they actually sound identical (a very sharp, sibillant S). Their individual meanings only become clear once the sentence is finished. All parts until the end have their individual validity depending on context. Du! / You! Du has(s)t / you have (you hate) Du has(s)t mich / you have me (you hate me) This only gets resolved as the verb "to ask" / "fragen" is conjugated and added at the end. That's what's possible in the German grammar structure, but sadly not in English. I will attempt it, knowing completely that this isn't how it works in English. "You have me asked" instead "you have asked me". Only at this point is the ambiguity resolved in German and it is clear what was intended. However (!) Till plays with that ambiguity as he adds, "und ich hab nichts gesagt" / "and I didn't say anything". As the whole song often refers to, as well as spoofs the traditional (German) wedding vows "Will you love her and cherish her, in good days and in bad?" this intentional ambiguity is further cemented by the very emphatic "NEIN!" / "NO!" by the band members right after the chorus line. Next part of the wedding vows: "Willst du sie lieben, bis das der Tod euch scheide?' "Will you love her, until Death do you part?" Here's another homophone: The verb "scheiden" / "to part" conjugated to the correct form is identical in sound to the NOUN "die Scheide" = "the vagina" (literally the sheath). This is ONLY identified by the article "die", or its reflexive form "zum Tod der Scheide" / "to the death of the vagina". The difference is only a minuscule s or a majuscule S. Obviously these can't be pronounced so to clarify it requires an article. In the studio version this part is only used at the very end. Here in concert Till uses it constantly. To top it all off, he changes the official use "willst du bis der Tod euch scheide treue sein für alle Tage?" / " Will you be faithful for all days, until Death do you part?" to "willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide treue sein für alle Tage?" / "Till the death of the vagina will you be faithful for all days?" Which is again answered with the band members very emphatic "NEIN!" / "NO!" Next innuendo: "willst du sie lieben auch an schlechten Tagen" refers to the German name for the female period as "die Tage haben" / "to have the days". In this case "will you love her even on bad days of her period?" So you can see that depending on how you wish to interpret each and every section of the lyrics, you get a huge load of potential meanings, more or less risque, or seeded in innuendos. This song is one of those showcasing the quality of the double or even triple meanings in Rammstein songs.

I first heard of Rammstein when I bought the soundtrack to the movie "The Matrix" and it was this very song that got me started. I then bought the DVD concert video "Live Aus Berlin" and become hooked! I made a comparison of "The Munsters meet championship wrestling in Germany". Till Lindemann (the lead singer) was the reason for that silly comparison. LOL! Although I pay little attention to the lyrics (I don't know German) but evidently many of Rammstein's songs are rather graphic and some of their stage shows have been banned. Anyway . . . . You mentioned a like for manga so perhaps you would take an interest in a Japanese metal group called "BABYMETAL". I would suggest that you find their official KZbin channel then find their official music video "Megitsune" - I have no doubt you will find it most entertaining, but know this: they are not anime - never have been and, with any luck, never will be. Evidently, many people jump to anime simply because they are singing in Japanese, and anime is the only place they’ve ever heard Japanese singing. Anyway, allow me to give you a little background regarding them: BABYMETAL is a trio of girls and they have been around for a bit over twelve years now (they started when their lead singer - known as Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) - was about twelve, and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) - the backing singers, officially known as "scream and dance" - were both around eleven. Their first two music videos - "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine!" (pronounced "E-nay") were released in 2012. Unfortunately, Yui left the band in 2018, and only earlier this year Momometal (Momoko Okazaki) was named a member of the group. They do not play instruments but are backed by the Kami Band - session musicians who are among the best that Japan (and the U.S.) has to offer. BABYMETAL started a brand new genre of music ("kawaii metal" - cute metal), and they cannot be pigeon-holed - they are almost always thinking and moving outside box; they made listening to metal FUN! They have, to date, four studio albums, and have been on a number of world tours. It is common knowledge among their devoted fans (known as "The One") that BABYMETAL is best served live, but they do have several music videos that are real works of art, "Megitsune" being one of them. For a live example of BABYMETAL, I would suggest "Road of Resistance" Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) which is also on their KZbin channel. If you should give them a try, I'll be more than happy to recommend many more of their songs - I think I might be a fairly good sensei regarding them. 🙂 KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘

My understanding is that the moisture lathered on the band is actually fire-retardant material. The lead singer is certified to work with pyrotechnics. so he's able to do more than most bands can as far as fireworks goes.
