First Time Reaction to "Shallow" by Pentatonix

I attended this show and this was like their test run concert it was so special for them. It was their first big show post quarantine. This was the stepping stone concert leading into the continuation of their world tour. Also their very first time headlining the Hollywood bowl. The energy that night beaming from all of them was so contagious, You could feel their excitement and gratitude, and the show was pure joy. So electrifying. You are going to have a fantastic time when you see them this summer.

Kevin is the first person in the world who started cello-boxing (that's how he calls it) on camera. That's how they found him in 2011 - his cello-boxing video ('Julie-O') went viral on youtube. Kevin and Matt has a big duo section in their live concerts - they do 'sing-along' with the audience, and then Kevin cello-boxes and Matt plays the drums. It's so impressive live! They always get standing ovations.

The black-and-white film of PTX's official video, with the "pops" of gold color (jewelry, room furnishings) is a nod to the film's movie posters - which were all black-and-white, with the only color being the golden words in the title, "A Star Is Born". It was nice that you showed a movie poster in the intro - it makes the connection even stronger, if you know what to look for. Every time I see a video from the PTX Hollywood Bowl concert, I'm just amazed that Kirstie had her baby girl barely 3 months before this performance!

@@lynsaykennedy3514 Her Wikipedia page shows her as Kirstin Maldonado. She joked about being called "Kristine" or "Kris" in school. In their cover of Starships she introduces herself as "my name is Kirsten, you can call me Kirstie". Don't think we can get more authoritative than that. Cheers!

So, so good! There is a behind the scenes video where they filmed this video plus the video for waving through a window... on the same day!! They usually "only" have Kevins cello on tour, the extra cellos were for that performance only.

You two have to do "My Heart With You" IMO, it is the most beautiful 5 part harmony they have done. My favorite of theirs is whichever one they are doing at the time, at their concert all I kept saying was I LOVE THIS ONE, at each new song. purely amazing talent. Thanks you 2!!

Definitely love their vocal skills, and differences vocally. Their covers generally honor the original artist as well. I think folks look for bass to make an impression and it is, but also think high harmonies are a thing most humans enjoy listening to. Good choice, nice review.

Love how your smiles just got bigger and bigger. You are the only reactors I've seen comment on the Lady Gaga reference they toss in towards the end. 👍 And you are right about how they can all blend into the ensemble when they need to, and then go into another gear when they take the lead. When they are blending, I have a hard time telling Mitch from Kirstie and Matt from Scott, but when one of them takes the lead, they are unmistakable.

I love your PTX reactions and I really hope you enjoy their live show. I'm going in August. BTW.....Kirstin's name can be pronounced 2 ways....either Kirstie which rhymes with thirsty or Kirstin which sounds like burstin'. Keerstin which sounds like beer is a no go.

If you want to hear a fantastic song that truly showcases Kirstie's singing talent listen to "Show Yourself". In "Voctave's Broadway & Main Vol. 2 . Voctave are Disney singers and I believe this is a Disney song. This may be her best work yet. I think few people have ever heard this or even know about it.

You may have figured this out already because you included the "A Star is Born" poster in your reaction, but the Pentatonix video is based on the movie poster, which is black and white with gold letters. And, since you liked the movie, did you know that the Lady Gaga / Bradley Cooper version is the third remake? The original was in 1937, with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. Then 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason and 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Same basic plot, but since the dominant star vehicle changed over the years, in 1937 they are movie stars, in 1954 stage musical performers, 1976 rock stars and 2018 country /pop stars.

When you see them in concert, you’ll realize what a powerhouse vocalist Kirstin is. She’s a belter and you can hear her really loud, live. I think they put her too far back in the mix during production honestly
