On that brings back memories as a kid. Young ones was brilliant, new and revolutionary for its time. Also had live music on with bands like motorhead. The follow up series Bottom was equally brilliant. It was live action Tom and Jerry but for adults. It's also really sad, with PC, and the culture in the UK that they wouldn't get made today, because it might offend that 1 in a thousand.

Ah, the comedic madness that is The Young Ones. I remember watching it when it first aired in the US on MTV in 1985. They actually got more money from the BBC if they were classified as a "variety show" as opposed to a sitcom, so almost all of the 12 episodes had a band performing like The Damned, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Motorhead and Madness. Absolutely nothing made sense and Vyvyan and Rik (Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall) began a 25-year career of beating the living crap out of one another. Brilliant!

Thanks for reacting! Loved this show back in the 80’s! I was in High School and there was nothing else like it on TV. This series aired on MTV! Even the theme song is an ode to British legend Cliff Richard (“Young Ones” was a Cliff Richard song from back in the day). 😆

Haven’t seen that in years, yet still remembered it line by line! They used to have guest bands play as well that episode was Dexys Midnight Runners performing ‘Jackie Wilson Said’ well worth a watch as well. Other episodes featured The Damned, Motorhead, Madness plus many more!

I was 12 when this show came out and no one had seen anything like it before, most parents hated it but all the kids adored it, we'd all watch it religiously and the day after it was on tv it's all we'd talk about in school the next day, it was coined 'Alternative Comedy' and it all started in comedy clubs in London, a lot of the comics from the clubs who started getting work on tv like in this show, then started collaborating on a tv series called "The Comic Strip Presents...." which was a series of short films, they made 42 over 4 decades and some of the best one are absolutely hilarious!

Yep. After school before tea time every week day until dad come home and switched our tv over to the other channel for the news. And The Goodies were great too. We had to play outside unless it was raining so just before was allowable tv time. Yep only 2 channels, no remote and dinner was tea, lunch was dinner. Yep we played outdoors or were off doing sporting club stuff or at the swimming pool. Yes we rode our bikes if we wanted to go most places. No helmets😂😂Or walked. Love the good old days❤🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

funniest thing is that in the UK you do need a tv license but,, and this is the main thing THERE IS NO WAY TO "DETECT" if you have a TV let alone if it is even turned on.. there is no such thing as a tv detector van and when the "Enforment" officers come to your house. you dont need to tell them anything not even your name and you can Deny them right of access onto your property and they must leave. they can only Enter your house if they have a court warrant.

Which is what makes the episode so funny. In the U. S. (probably in the U.K. as well), you can, however, be detected for stealing cable (signal strength to residences can be monitored), and prosecuted for theft of services. In America. a lot of people have got rid of cable and satellite dishes and have gone with all-online service or free antenna channels, plenty of which still exist.
