Maynard uses bad posture to mellow his awesomeness. If he used proper posture, the first couple dozen rows of the audience would’ve died.

Because of how scary right she is. It hurts knowing that a trained vocalist can put something so abstract into terrifying clarity. Much like the neanderthal screaming at the sky crying...It is all so lonely...Maynard touches something scary when he performs.

They have the same appeal as Layne Staley in Alice, and Mad Season, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, and not to get weird but Johnny Cash these men know how to get to the bottom of the human soul. Just positive proof that too much despair kills. It attacks everyone. All are engaged in battle. Some overcome it; others don't. But everyone gets mauled in their one on one struggle with it. It's just a function of being alive. So it goes. John~ American Net'Zen

@@seelenwinter6662 " the most important and influence band the last 20-25 years" - lol no...great band (I've been a fan since 93...seen them twice) but not really all that influential (which newer well known bands did they influence?..i can't think of one...maybe Muse, like she said lol). Their contemporaries like Nirvana and Pearl Jam were MUCH more influential. Still, awesome band.
@moozooh
@moozooh 5 жыл бұрын
@@RP_Williams The influence is certainly not as notable as the two bands' you've listed and is more subtle, but it's there. Tool's early works had a notable influence over a number of alternative metal bands in the mid-90s (I mean you can clearly see it in e.g. Jonathan Davis of Korn, as well as a number of other acts of the time), and their musical origins and sensibilities helped shape the genre known as post-metal (although Melvins were arguably more influential in this regard, seeing as they were an oft-cited influence on Tool themselves) and popularize complex rhythmic structures way before math rock was recognized as its own genre. So, while it's a bit hard to name a band that sounds just like Tool (given Maynard's lyrical and vocal expertise and the rest of the band's musical technique, being similar is not exactly easy to begin with), it's possible to name several genres that enjoyed mainstream popularity and an influx of performers not long after Tool started dabbling in them. This is not unlike the "shadow influence" e.g. Throbbing Gristle and the projects of its founding members (most notably Psychic TV and Coil) exerted over a wide range of genres, with no single band to be named as a direct influence but overall serving as some of the main pioneers of new sound and techniques that would later spread across hundreds and thousands of separate performers.

@@maluorno I think 10,000 Days (song) might be too long for something like this, and not much different in terms of lyrical style. I think Maynard has changed over the years but overall stays true to the original Tool sound. On 10,000 Days (album) I think the most dynamic we see of him is in The Pot but its still that same soft to hard to smooth style. We shall see if that changes in the new album (if we ever see it) - but I think if she were to do another it would be better for her to do a contrast in style/technique between say a Tool track vs APOC or Puscifer. That's really where he shows different ability and vocal style.

THIS. You don't just hear and listen, it resonates in your very heart and soul. Especially of you can relate to their music (which is very much a matter of perception and interpretation) based on your individual experiences. That is what makes tool great - they can speak across genres, styles, and cultural boundaries. Even though I hate that their albums typically have a 10(ish year gap), they never disappoint me. That said, I still prefer their older music opposed to the newer stuff, but that does not mean their newer stuff does not speak to me on an emotional or spiritual level

I came in here thinking this chick is going to try and RIP down the band that basically defined my teenage and early 20s. Love Maynard his voice is so insanely powerful. He builds the story not only with words but his emotion and his stage presence. Definitely look at the music video. Thank you for proving me wrong you analyzed Maynard well. This song four me was dealing with depression every day it would allow you to feel good about yourself some times your happy and every thing seems well for it of nowhere it would crush and devastate you. Some coined the song with drug addiction ADHD I see that. But for me it was the black dog. Still puts tears in my eyes not of pain not of sadness but just emotion. This man should be listened to by all.

Yeah, every time I've seen Tool, Maynard has been in the dark behind or to the side of the drums. During all the APC shows I've seen he was in the front directly under the lights. Truthfully, I don't know the reasoning why he now stays in the dark with Tool and under the lights with APC and Puscifer. This is only about 10 shows over the last 10 years so IDK what he did before this.

Picking up on Muse was astute, in my opinion. Muse has a cinematic style (Stockholm Syndrome immediately comes to mind), and Tool has this same characteristic in some of their work. I have listened to Tool for many years, and it's great to see a new generation appreciating the standout bands that originally formed decades ago. I truly believe that's why today's sound hasn't changed much because we've already reached the pinnacle of this genre because of and thanks to bands like Tool.

This hits in 4 separate parts for me. The first chorus is plaintive, almost begging. The second is angry, lashing out at the addiction. Then you have the softer interlude...reaching desperation before exploding with anger again. Then the end of the song feels like accepting what is...and that it's your own fault.

Raw emotion. Maynard is spilling his soul out here. look at him. He is absent at the fact that there are thousands in attendance.
