FIRST TIME riding the HONDA GROM on the MAIN ROAD!

I finally rode my motorcycle on the main road!

2:00 NEVER stop directly behind a car at a traffic light. Either left or right of the car, just in case someone behind you isn’t paying attention, you aren’t squashed between two cars.

I think you did an amazingly awesome job! I think you should take as many breaks as you need when you are riding your bike. Pay attention to the rhythm of the bike and to the sound of the bike. It's just my opinion you should ride your bike everyday, even to places you would not normally ride. Keep up the good work, stay safe, and before you know it you won't believe how much you are enjoying the ride.

When turning or riding slow in the lots you should try it in 2nd gear. Will help with the jerkiness. And don’t be nervous about the cop, he’s probably jelly that you are out riding and he’s not

Try not to stop directly behind vehicles as it is a lot harder for people to see you from the car ahead. Pull more the left or right side so you can stay in view of their side mirrors. Plus, should something happen from behind and as long as you stay in gear, you will have greater success to escape the area and stay safe. Enjoy your riding. I plan to possibly get a Grom here pretty soon.

Take it from someone who's been daily riding for 3 years, you did a great job! Especially with taking breaks! It looks like you got the basics of shifting down and now its all about experimenting and practice. I still get it wrong from time to time 😆. Eventually your brain figures out what works best and then it becomes muscle memory. Keep at it, study study study and ride safe! You totally got this👍

When I got the grom new I was nervous enough to snap the clutch pulling into traffic for the first time lol but I put 800 miles on it before paying the first note. Everyone saying to blip the throttle downshifting, that's called rev matching. That's great and all but I probably wouldn't worry about it at first. Normal down shifting is fine until you have basic shifting down pat. Then maybe try to add rev matching sometimes later on.

Let that clutch out slower and blip the throttle on downshifts. Once you get used to it flow it all together in one motion and you'll be a lot smoother.

I think you did awesome. I'm on the same journey. Like others just got a 24 grom non abs. White n black. I'm turning 36 never rode a motorcycle or dirt bike either. I notice on my xt250 when i blip the throttle when downshifting, that tends to work a lot smoother than just downshifting. At one time, i was making a turn but traveling at least 30mph. I downshifted without blipping the throttle, and for some reason my rear wheel slid, like it wanted to fish tail. At that point, i realized that blipping the throttle while downshifting works significantly better than just downshifting. Well, thats what it is for me on my xt250 at least or maybe i am just a total newb still. Only been riding for 2 years now. Anyways, ride safe. I have a Grom (UK). When riding 25 mph and over, it will pull in 5th gear and accelerate. No need to ride along in 3rd and 4th.

You could use higher gears to make the bike rev less high. Other than that you did a great job.

Recommend you ride in the left part of lane. Not the right or middle. Did you take a safety course? Maybe practice on side roads until you get your shifting down.
