you forgot how they are dirt cheap to buy and maintain. im 18, work in a city at a fast food restaurant, and was able to buy a 2023 with no issues. its my first real payment and its only like $100 a month and $4 a month for insurance (abusing my dad’s motorcycle insurance) which i can easily do double or triple payments on. im out here straight out of high school with a 750 credit score because i daily a grom to work.

What is cheap are the Chinese Grom clones, or the Honda Navi. The 2020 Groms were $3k, but after covid tax, they became $5k.

I purchased a new '23 Grom on March 1st. On April 15th I had double-bypass open heart surgery at 75 years of age. Two days ago I rode my Grom to my doctor's follow up appointment. He was not happy with me, but my wife and I (her on her new KLX230 Kawasaki) rode for 60 miles that day. The '23 grom has a 5 speed transmission; not 4 like the earlier versions and a bit more power from engine changes. With my 283lb weight the bike strains to make 57MPH and it actually goes faster and better in 4th gear than 5th. It has a little flashing overspeed light telling you to upshift, but riding at that speed it is at 7,300RPM....not above redline. I believe it is better to rev it higher rather than lug the engine so it does not make excessive heat. It has a fuel mileage indicator in the dashboard and running at speed gets 105MPG The bike is very comfortable riding at 45-47MPH and there gets 134MPG.

Man that is awesome!! Glad to hear you're doing good! That's what it's all about right there, enjoying the times we're fortunate enough to have like that. I think I'd have to agree with ya too, i try not to lug mine around too much either. I've heard a handful of people say the same thing about the 5th gear on the 23's. You guys stay safe out there!

The only "cons" I have about the GROM are the mirrors are too close together so I only can see my shoulders. If the stems were 3 inches longer you could actually see in back of you and it really could use just a bit more displacement as I am a heavy guy and the bike tops out at 59 MPH. It would be nice if top speed was about 68MPH
@ProDigit80

You can't lug the engine. The compression on the new engines might run a bit hotter than the older groms.

your post has me leaning in a non-Grom direction. for 2 reasons. the 12" wheels and the wheels not having a knobby option. the honda 100 has 19" front and 16" rear wheels. here in colorado i take my honda 100 all over jeep roads and other trails. and on ebay i can get a kit to convert it to street legal. something i plan to do as my yamaha xt-225 enduro at 260# is too heavy for me to safely ride anymore on the dirt. i'm 77 . and can still ride it ok on the streets. but overall i've gotten too old for it. i do get a kick out of reading of us older boys still at it. and in the summer when i do the Tincup pass - Hancock pass loop lots of them will be out too livin' the dream. its fun to stop and visit w/ them. or even stop for lunch at that one restaurant along the way. that place is usually packed with atv'rs and dirt-bikers since it would take a load of money to upgrade a Grom to what i am already used to that path makes no sense. when i already have a dirt bike that will leave a stock Grom in the dust. its only advantage is being license-able out the door as-is ok , i know. the 100 frame size is for a teen ager in middle school. and with some 2x6 lumber and lots of foam and carpet the seat height has been raised accordingly. its weight is about 160#. and is an amount i can still get back up after a spill. in truth tho if i didnt have so many seasons on enduros already the Grom would have more appeal. all the vid's seen here show guys having fun. and it reminds me of my first doodle-bug back in grade school

Light sensors aren't by weight, its magnetic fields, and most bikes dont have enough metal to set them off. Most states allow you to go through a red after 5 mins if the way is clear. I've experienced this on bikes and in a semi during the winter when ice messed with the light system.

@darrelljacobjr2120
@darrelljacobjr2120 Жыл бұрын
Yes, they are metal detectors. A 4' or so diameter coil of thin wire with a small current applied. Any large metal thing that passes over the coil disrupts the magnetic field and triggers the light. Pressure sensors would be messed up by thermal expansion/contraction of the pavement as the weather changes.

Man could you see that not very bright of a head light. For the senser put a big magnet on the bottom of your bike it will set it off wieght has nothing to do with it. Zs190 swap it there a 5 speed electric start you can at least get to 75-8o mph out of it with a bracket it's a direct swap out and complete engine kit. 🏍️🛠️💯🍻👍✌️

con #2 is really bad, on a Ruckus. Grom is way better. At 70 mph, stock Grom, be drafting and tucking.

I want a Grom so bad man. Pretty much all the streets around me are at most 60mph speed limits. The Grom is perfect for where I live, but I'm a big dude. 240lbs, I wonder if the Grom could take my weight 😮‍💨

I highly recommend one man!! They're a a blast no matter the size! It could definitely handle you no issue, heck you could even throw a bigger sprocket on the rear and that would help!

If you get one maybe get a big bore kit to help get that little extra power for the top speed increase. My road only has 1 exit and it goes directly into a 55mph road. Nobody did does limit and if you aren't doing 60-65 you'll get hit by someone not paying attention. I plan on getting the monkey and doing the 149cc big bore kit the same time I get the bike.

would probably look at a normal size bike if I was you. You'll be pegging the grom all the time and running that thing into the ground. Look at the CB300r or CB500r, they call those the bigger brother of the grom.

I am a 75 year old man that weighs 283lbs. I bought a black '23 Grom 3/1/23 as my bigger bikes I can no longer get my leg over. I feel my Grom will not go past 60 with my weight and may be even faster in 4th gear rather than 5th, but I have not yet fully flogged this engine until it is fully broken in.

I daily mine on a 50mph road.. The Grom is just barely enough considering traffic usually moves along at about 60.. A few mods and then it'll be a lot better - ..130mpg helps ease the pain though..
