🌟There is NO ROTATION of members: there has been only ONE member change since the group started. The founding 3 members are childhood friends from Arlington Texas 👉Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy) sings baritone, covers the bass when the bass has a singing lead, hits high falsettos is an EXTREMELY soulful white boy! 👉Kirstin Maldonado (Kirstie rhymes with thirsty) Changes her look A LOT!! sings mezzo soprano, alto. 👉Mitch Grassi (guy with the high voice) Changes his look A LOT!!! sings counter tenor, tenor. 👆👆Those 3 members grew up together doing choir and musical theater. When they got to High School they were known as The Trio. Upon HS graduation Scott moved to So. California for college and Kirstie moved to Oklahoma for college. Mitch was in his last year of HS. While at USC Scott had joined the famous SoCal Vocals choir. An alum of that group Ben Bram was a recruiter for the televised singing competition The Sing Off. He spotted Scott because he had recognized him from a KZbin video of The Trio singing Telephone by Lady Gaga for their High school concert. Ben asked to contact his classmates Kirstin and Mitch and audition for the 3rd season of the show. Ben also advised Scott to get a bass singer and a beat boxer to make their sound fuller 👉Avi Kaplan (Ah-vee) (guy with the full beard, hair in a ponytail or wears a beanie) bass/basso profundo baritone, overtone. Scott was introduced to Avi (Born in California) Avi had an amazing reputation of being an amazing bass. Avi had also seen the Telephone video of the trio and he thought they were extremely talented. So when asked if he wanted to join the Trio he said he'd love to. Scott and Ben were having trouble finding a beat boxer. They searched for beat boxers on KZbin and the first to appear was Kevin. 👉 Kevin Olusula (Olu-shu-la) or K.O beatboxer, tenor, cello-boxing. Kevin was attending YALE and was on his finals of Pre-med when Scott contacted him. Kevin was studying to be a doctor (heart surgeon) and on the side he played the cello and was a beatboxer. Kevin has been playing cello since he was 6, he also plays the sax, and piano . Kevin and his 2 younger siblings are first generation American. Kevin's father is from Nigeria (he is a doctor) His mother is from Greneda (She is a therapist). Kevin's sister is a pharmacist and youngest brother is a doctor. After his studies Kevin agreed to join these strangers for the the audition. Scott and Ben helped pay for Kevin's plane ticket to California. When the five members were finally able to get together it was a day BEFORE the audition. The Trio had sang together in highschool but with other 2 new members immediately clicked as a 5 member group. Scott came up with the name PENTATONIX which comes from the 5 melody pentatonic scale. (Penta means 5) They competed and WON the 3rd season of the show The Sing Off in 2011. PENTATONIX is THE MOST SUCCESSFUL and POPULAR group to come out of the show series ONLY A capella group to ever win Grammys, top the Billboard charts and get a STAR on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame among many more accolades. Also Ben Bram (The show scout/recruiter who was also an arranger joined the group and is known as the unofficial 6th member. Ben and the group especially Scott, Kevin and Avi were/are the main arrangers for the group. 👉Matt Sallee current bass baritone of the group. Joined in late 2017 when Avi decided to part ways with the group. ALL the members of the group have side/solo or colabs They are ALL AMAZINGLY TALENTED. They have their own channels with their own music sort from the group. But their rule is that PENTATONIX comes first Scott and Mitch also have/had a channel as a duo with vlogs, covers and original music they call themselves Superfruit. The PENTATONIX fan base are known as Pentaholics. 🌟I'm here for your PENTATONIX (PTX) rabbit hole journey!

They give Christmas songs a whole new life. After hearing their versions, the radio versions just don't seem adequate anymore. Their cover of Carol of The Bells is a wonderful one. Some call it "When Does Mitch Breathe?" It is one of my favorites.

This is exactly the same group that performed Hallelujah. However, Kirstin was a blonde in that song, as opposed to the coal-black hair she has in this video. Mitch (high tenor/countertenor) has his natural hair color in this one (black), but his hair was extremely short in Hallelujah and he was wearing a big round hat, so he looks very different. Scott (tall blonde) is sporting a beanie in this video, but usually doesn't wear a hat of any kind. Avi and Kevin look pretty much the same in most of their videos - Avi with the beard and beanie, Kevin just being himself.

They are the same from the original Hallelujah , Scott is tall and blonde, Kristen, Avi is bass and has a beard and Mitch has a high voice and has black hair. You do need to hear the live version of Hallelujah with Avi in it. Avi left in 2017 and Matt came in to do the bass and Kevin is the bear- boxer and plays the cello and other instruments and he can sing. Scott plays the piano, Mitch plays a keyboard and Avi the guitar. They are great together and a family. Scott, Mitch and Kristen went to school together and we're in the choir

No Avi the Bass singer was in the Hallelujah video. He left the group in 2017 and that same year Matt Sallee joined them. That has been the only change to the line up. The tall blonde is Scott Hoying the Baritone, then Mitch Grassi who is the Counter Tenor, then Kirsten Maldonado who is a Mezzo Soprano. Scott, Mitch & Kirsten grew up together in Arlington Texas they are the founding members. Now Kevin Olusola the beat boxer they found him on You Tube doing his Cello Boxing. He is a classically trained cellist. He also has his Pre-Med degree from Yale. And he speaks fluent Mandarin from his studies in China.

You mention how songs become "new/different" when PTX covers it. That's because they don't do a cover. They do an upgrade. Kirsty and Mitch like to switch up their look, seems like almost every time. Avi (white, cap, dark beard) left the group amicably in 2017 due to family issues with his mother's illness, which led to them adding Matt as their bass singer.

I know what you mean about them even making familiar classics their own when they cover a song. With this one it's the fact that even in a song about a drummer boy which was written to feature drums & other instruments, they make you not even miss the instruments at all & just a tiny touch of style change. A Christmas song where they blew me away with their interpretation though was when I heard their version of Silent Night!! 🤯 I knew then that would be my favorite version for life, even though I've heard a couple versions done with a live choir & an orchestra with violins that were very very beautiful.

This was my first PTX song. Love them, so versatile, all over with their genres. Someone said this is "Babytonix" as in one of their earlier songs. I see in your line up you did their Amazing Grace cover with their new guy, Matt I think? He's not Avi, who is missed, but a great addition. Beautiful voice as well.

Subscribing for more Pentatonix! People have mentioned that they started out by winning a competition show, The Sing-Off, in 2011. The episodes are available here on KZbin. Some reactors go whole hog and cover every episode, but you might want to do one or two to see where they came from. They took the judges' comments to heart and improved with every song they did. You might want to check out "Video Killed the Radio Star" - the song where most of the Pentaholics feel that the group first started to sound like today's Pentatonix; "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye, where they showed their R&B chops; and "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine, where they sewed it all up - it was not the last competition performance, but despite Scott's throat infection, they were so moving and soulful that everyone knew they had won. Also, many say, that performance features the first "Mitch slap."
@cheath1aisd6 ай бұрын
Mitch lost a lot of weight, and he is thinner now - same person. Kevin *beatboxer* sings, plays cello *and beatboxes at the same time (Check out "Shallow"). Scott is the tall blonde, and isn't technically the "lead singer" but often leads songs off. The bass, Avi left the group a while back amicably, and they replaced him with Matt, the black bass singer you saw in "Sound of Silence." He's amazing, and I love his addition to the group and what he brings! Kirstie (rhymes with "thirsty") is always changing her hair, but she is the same. you saw in Hallelujah. So, "older songs" will have Avi on bass, and newer songs will have Matt as the Bass. Another to check out: "Are You That Somebody".. . . and it's awesome work! "Come Along" is a fun one, too. "90s Dance Medley" . . . . Christmas songs - one of my favorites is "Carol of the Bells" (Link to LIVE performance: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKW2ZmuJep17d8k), they do SUCH a good job with it- "O Holy Night," "The Prayer" are absolutely awesome. (I can't believe they didn't get a Grammy or at least a nomination for "The Prayer" last year!) "12 Days of Christmas" is fun, basically, ALL their songs are AMAZING. Just make your way through all the songs, and you'll get so fulfilled by their talent. (Oh, and they sound EXACTLY THE SAME when LIVE...incredible). Another fun one, is a collaboration with Todrick Hall that they did back in the day - "The Wizard of Ahhhhs". "Havana" is really cool, and they also have their own original music (Be My Eyes is my favorite). . . . Just pick through them one by one.

These are the exact same 5 people from Hallelujah. Avi, who sang first in this song is the bass singer. He left the group for personal reasons in 2017. Scott, the tall blonde guy sings baritone. Kirsten is the female and changes her look very often. Mitch is the counter tenor and also changes his look a lot. Kevin is the beat boxer. He also plays the cello and has a beautiful singing voice. Matt is not in this video, but joined the group in 2017 when Avi left. That is the only change the group has had since they started in 2011.

This was the first full video I saw of them after their 'Evolution of Music' mash up and its around 12 years old now ...the fans like to call this the Babytonix era as they're all so young ! You're watching the same line up from 'Hallelujah' and the members stayed he same until Avi the bass singer left & was replaced by Matt in 2017. Mitch ( the counter tenor) & Kirstin like to change their look often which makes folks believe they're different people , but there's no mistaking their voices ! Another vote here for 'Oh Come All Ye Faithful', Kevin had a big hand in the arrangement and he and Avi absolutely kill their amazing new take on an old carol 😉

Kevin has a beautiful voice but he was shy about singing in the beginning. The only change was that Avi, the bass with the black hair and beanie left in 2017 and in came Matt, the black bass with the rich soulful voice. Mitch and Kirsty both change their look in pretty much every video so that's why it looks like a different group. Please check out some live stuff to see that this is not just a bunch of production. I suggest GOLD, POP SPRING, AHA, and then KISS FROM A ROSE.
