Hello Kim … absolutely terrified for my first solo trip at the age of 57 . Being a man I know is kind of silly ! But I’ve been dealing with anxiety and panic attacks for very long years . Listening to your beautiful positive videos gave me the last push to finally face all those fears and literally exorcise them from my mind and soul . So I JUST BOOKED my trip to beautiful southern Mexico for a week. Thank you very much! You’re a very inspiring woman .

Not silly at all! Never! Starting something new for the first time is always the hardest part. It’s only natural for you to be nervous about it. Since your first trip is international, make sure you do lots of research and stay alert of your surroundings while you are there. People are always watching, even if you are a man. So exited for you! And the best part is, if you don’t like it, then you’ll know it’s not for you and you never have to do it again! Haha you got this!! I’m rooting for you! But this year I'm all crazy and booked a flight, motel and activities in freaking FLORIDA,USA May19th-May 29th! I'm from Norway, Europe btw. I'm so excited and a bit terrified haha. Yes the call from mother nature is the number 1 reason I'm afraid to travel solo. Noone for me to leave my things with. Yes I can make friends along the way but of course I can't easily just trust them enough.

All great tips!. I also go to Google maps satellite view of city or country I'm visiting, plug in the address where I'm staying and use the close up zoom function to view the surroundings and locate a place hopefully to walk for morning coffee. It's comforting to have a good visual of where I'm going. I know we are dependent on cell phones but sometimes there is no cell service I always get a backup map from the hotel and circle my hotel and ask for recommendations on things to do some touristy and what the locals like to do. Also grab a business card for the hotel especially when travelling in a foreign country where you have a language barrier. This may sound old school but it's a simple backup. I learned from a friend years ago when possible to take a city bus tour the first jet lagged day when travelling abroad to get a good overview of the city. This works for short stays. Happy travels!

Tip no.4 is what my friends do to me when we travel. I'm still excited exploring and they just wanna go back to the bnb or just wait for me at a restau or something. So we break off for a couple hours then I come back for them. I'm the journey planner and "walking map" of the group anyway, but I have Never ever travelled solo yet so thanks for this vid!

I truly want to solo travel, I’m tired of waiting for people to have their money in order/thinking that destination is boring, so they don’t want to go. How do you all handle solo traveling with the rise of human- trafficking? Do you all take public transportation rather than Uber? Do you all get back to your hotel room by a certain time?

This is such a good and thoughtful comment. Thank you for this. I need to mull this over a bit. But something I’m not sure I have mentioned before is that when I’m solo traveling and I don’t know anyone in that place, my time out at night is very limited. Granted, anything can happen during the day, but for the most part, I’ll limit what I do and how much time I spend out at night. I’m also getting older and just can’t hang like I used to but that is something I do. Would love to hear other ppl’s thoughts on this.

I'm taking 2 solo trips in October and March. I'm terrified. I've not spent a day away from my family including a 4 yr old with special needs in over 4 years, actually I'm sure it's longer. Texas first for 2 days not including travel times and then Arizona for roughly 5 days. Meeting up with friends both times.

This is a great question! For me personally, I go into solo trips with a different mentally than I do group trips. On solo trips, I like to journal, especially when it's just me, and I'll tell my friends and family about the trip when I get back. But sometimes I meet people/strangers and we have that shared experience. Does that make sense?
